The health fascists of the world won't let it happen. Sadly.

However, they did let The Saboteur pass, so maybe if we're lucky!

@Cyfa: Immersion, fa**ot.

Why in the absolute f*ck would you want to voluntarily smoke on a video game.

YOLO. cool.gif

Anyway, it would be cool to smoke in GTA V to add imersion, and i think it would be nice to get a pack of smokes, light up one, and drive around the country and desert.

No.

Yes catspider.gif

What was the question? Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

You can smoke in MGS, it slowly takes your health down and alerts enemies to your presence... I'm just not sure what the point of it is... so I think it would be a rubbish feature in GTA.

Who cares if you can smoke or not? It's little details like this that add to the overall game. It's like the people in the sitting in a chair thread, god forbid we sit in a damn chair! If you don't like this, it doesn't matter, you don't have to do it! But for those who want it, let us have it, it only adds to the immersion. Imagine sitting on a bench in the middle of Los Santos smoking a cigar taking in the sights of GTA and admiring the hard work put into the game to make it what it is. I for one am all for this. viddy_pirate.gif

I liked how they did it in RDR, after a mission it would show John flicking a cigerette away. I think it would be pretty cool though if there was some sort of smoking in V, like the same as RDR, most likely for Trevor. Also, i'd like to see Franklin smoking some weed, would be cool to have the odd mission while you're high on the game, make slower reactions times and that.

I dont see why not, they've had smoking in vice city as an option, no harm done, so why not bring it back? Its a good for immersion. Sure i'll probably only do it like 5 times in the hours i may play, but i still want to lnow that the option is there. Besides, judging trevor's personallity, it would be nice to take a drag after a psychotic rampage to ease him tounge.gif

I don't mind either way, it neither takes away or adds any detail for me. I'm not a smoker so it doesn't appeal to me to have it as a feature. I'd rather they get out their phone and play music or check their weapons or something when standing idle. I guess it worked in RDR and would work if it fits the character, I can imagine Michael holding a cigar in a lot of the cutscenes.

I'm actually anti smoking. But in a game like GTA it adds to the whole character vibe. I would like to see it in the game, but what you just said made me think - will it be like Saints Row 1/2 where you smoke via the D pad for two seconds then that's it? Or will i be like RDR

Or perhaps when you're idle. If unarmed, you have a smoke. If armed you check that gun....

I'd actually love to load this game up and sit on a bench and smoke. As said, it's these little details that make the game what it is.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Only in cutscenes. What would the point be? GTA is not an RPG.

Yeah, but a lot of people (including myself) find little things like this to add greatly to the immersion of the game. Trevor seems like he'd smoke a pack a day. How is it realistic to play as his character if he's only smoking in cutscenes, but never when we're playing as him?

As someone said earlier: something as simple as adding an idle animation where he lights up, and puts it out when you move the controller would go a long way.

John Marston often puts out a cigarette, just before take back control of him after a cutscene/mission. You can never see him light one up though.

i recall he lights up in at least one cutscene. also if you hang around beechers hope for a while you can spot teenage jack lighting and smoking a cigarette. sometimes i throw tomahawks at his ankles to discourage it. or set his horse on fire, and make him watch

Romans Cousin Niko

Usually in a game when you don't move the charter for a while they start to wave their arms about or make a comment about standing around doing nothing. Wouldn't it be cool if they just lit up? It would be a good bit of humour.

I remember a game called The Saboteur, where you could press a button to make the protagonist light up a smoke. I always did in on a rooftop, overlooking the smoke and flames rising up over a destroyed complex I just blew up, with the Parisian rain pouring down, it felt badass and immersive, I loved it.

The way I see it, add it in, if people don't wanna see it, then they won't remain idle or press that button, if they do, it's there.

The point of it in MGS was to blow the smoke onto the laser so that it became visible. If you break the laser you'd trigger the alarm.

They have zippos in the game, and they mentioned cigarette brands in one of the interviews when discussing the detail inside the stores, that coupled with Michael smoking a cigar in the trailer leads me to believe it's definitely possible, even likely. Why only have zippos to set fires? I don't think it should increase your health though, that would cause too much controversy and send the wrong message. It could perhaps have some other effect instead.

.... it would send the wrong message no matter what it does... unless it gave you the ability to take away health ? made you react slower?

and basically.. doing it has a negative effect on the game.

Which would be pointless.

True, but then again, if having sex with hookers gives you extra health you never know, they might do that with smoking. I doubt it though, perhaps they could have it do nothing at all, just for aesthetic purposes. Pointless but it would look cool.

Im 90% sure I read it in a reliable german preview that smoking cigars would be in the game. It makes some sense when you consider the gas lighting thing. Why not having a cigar in your weapon inventory? They'd have to implement a weapon/item wheel like in RDR for easy access. I think the GTA-weapon-changing is not suitable anymore.

Now, people will say "link or it didn't happen" but I'm too lazy to look it up. Just take my word for that I'm 90% sure I read that from a reliable source.

Maybe they had it in the game and will not implement it due to legal reasons in some countries. It's at least half a year until release and the game is far from being finished.

I garantee everyone of you picked up a cigarette with Niko to see if he would puff on it.

He doesn't but he holds it like he's smoking.

I'm sure smoking will be in there. I think it was in IV too. Who the hell cares though? And also, controlling smoking? Are you f*cking me right now?

Most people on here are scared of porn and You want to add smoking in the game ? good luck with that. Theirs too many pussies these days i will never happen. It would upset someone for sure

Smoking no. Smoke weed yes. Why? Remember getting drunk in IV? that was kinda fun (for a couple of times). Getting stoned gives you a different feeling. Maybe some objects in the game will move slower and other objects will move faster, it gives you a fun experience. And the US already legalizing drugs (marijuana) in 2 states so maybe they accept it in games.

It would fit Trevor's character. Like if you're idling he just lights up a smoke, and when you regain control he just flicks it. I would think it would be a nice touch.

I don't see why not. After all vice city did have the cheat where Tommy smokes a cigarette.

This, along with Red Dead Redemptions John Marston smokinga cigarrette has me drawing conclusions that smoking will make a return in GTA V.

Yeah, it has been confirmed that we can smoke cigars at least..

Are you sure? nervous.gif

Damn, first we can kill cows there and now we apparently can smoke, too.. I really need to play that game again. Don't know why I stopped playing? I mean, it's a terrific game.. heavily underrated.
