cidamelo
CLAUDE and TREVOR: Psychopaths, cool, havoc causers (also my favorite characters) TOMMY and MICHAEL: Ironic, business guys, luxury CJ and FRANKLIN: Gangsta, hood morals, South LA Do you think Rockstar made a subtle reference to our old protagonists, or they are nothing like each other? Ubermacht
I don't see the resemblance between CJ and Franklin. In the trailer he even stated he was against gangs, when Lamar said he had his money in the hood.
Kalvin
More or less, they have the same personality between one-or-other. But their lives are completely different. Shine o' Vice | Vice City BETA Edition | Grand Theft Auto 3D

cidamelo
E28 CJ wasn't so 'gang' in the beggining too, Sweet often said that ManDog yes, obviously they have many differences but I think maybe there's a reference! rotipuj in the end all of them are, but Claude doesn't display emotions very often

cidamelo
mkey82 I used to think Tommy was Claude's father ClaudeSpeed1911 Claude is the best, and judging by your user name you agree with me Aviral66 Rockstar likes to do references to older games! mkey82
They could be brothers, maybe. Or R* just didn't feel like creating a 100% fresh character.
Barguast
Intentional or not, I think the resemblances are there. Tommy and Michael, I think everyone noticed from the start since he was more prominent in the first trailer. CJ and Michael seem closely matched in personality and background. Trevor and Claude...? Well, GTA:3 was the one with rampages and ending with Claude [possibly] murdering Maria in cold blood. I think it fits.
cidamelo
mkey82 I think not because Claude isn't Italian! But I agree, there isn't such a huge difference between Claude and Tommy Barguast yes and Rockstar likes to do that kind of reference!!
Andreas
I don't think that they are completely similar since the protagonists from all the GTAs are unique in their own way. I don't think that Rockstar really wanted to base them on the old protagonists but I think Rockstar wanted to give us the choice to play either a psychopath, an middle-aged wise, luxury business guy or a gangsta. All of them combined are in my opinion perfect for the multiple-protagonists-concept! StepY0gameUP
We'll in one of the articles I believe from IGN said that these new characters such as Michael will be like the gta character who made it and Trevor being the character who didn't. With that not saying they are 100% related or at all to any of the III era. But how would Claude be after gta III Will he move to the country side start up his own business. Remember Claude never had a reason for doing any of the crazy sh*t he done. He only cared about making that next dollar. Than u have tommy who at the end of vice was still very wealthy but after everything that happen after gta vc would enter witness protected program b c sonny and his gang would be out to kill him off for what he done. Also there was a heist mission in vice giving him that exp. Last with cj gang banger after gtaS.A. maybe he decides to hang it up and find other means of making money. So what would he do perhaps start up a company repoing cars etc etc. So in all maybe Rockstar came up with the idea of these character based on what would past gta character be like today. And that bring us Michael Trevor and Franklin. Edited November 15, 2012 by StepY0gameUP
cidamelo
StepY0gameUP you have a point!! Claude is like a nomad who goes with the with the wind, Tommy could be in a witness program (gangsters with an empire have this chance) and CJ likes to have different business! DeafMetal
I would actually pair them up as Trevor-Tommy, Miachel-Luis, Frank-CJ. Tommy's a psycho, Luis is a rich, charismatic businessman.
StepY0gameUP
This is very interesting and I kind of believe that Rockstar came up with these new character to bring to us character we loved in the past without actually putting them in. In many ways they do related with a slight tough of look wise exception of Trevor to Claude. B c why three characters at all why not two or four. I'm like Claude wasn't said to have been a psycho but the man was willing to do any Damn thing for just money. Trevor doesn't care to kill or destroy. Tommy yes was mention to be psychotic but I saw him as a smart and powerful character. Who's about living that life of luxury and never did anything just because like Claude or Trevor but did things b.c of business and power And cj was a gang banger but didn't really seem to me as only a gang banger he wanted to step out of that life style in s.a at one point and work with the big boys to make that money. So I def agree with u op there are similarities Edited November 15, 2012 by StepY0gameUP
Lil ski
Hmm...I dunno. But I see Michael as the Tommy Versetti that made it through and retired and settled down with a (disfuctional) family. CJ and Franklin don't really compare much in my eyes other than they are black lol and are/were gang affiliated. I see Franklin as the anti-cj though and more like Luis Lopez. An ex gangbanger/ drug dealer whose trying to get out if the game and trying to find a more legitimate life ( but ain't afraid to throw down when the time comes) and is still getting pressured by his knucklehead buddies who are still doing the same sh*t (A and H/ Lamar). Trevor and Claude on the other hand....I dunno man. Claude didn't really have much of a personality to go off on but if you wanna think of it, his silent ass could be on some Michael Myers murdering sh*t! With his stale emotionless face. Lol
Mrthingus
Trevor sounds like a mixture of Claude and Tommy. I find Michael to be more like Tony and Franklin feels like a mix of Carl and Vic.

killahmatic
I don't see the resemblance between CJ and Franklin. Nope me either. Only mind similarity is their skin color, but definitely different personalities. (Also, Tommy reminds me more of Trevor than Michael, and Claude reminds me of nobody.)
