Map wise I am becoming very suspicious.

Unfortunately, I do not believe there will be more bigger cities like Los Santos. I'd love it though

This leads me to believe there will be others airports in surrounding desert towns in Blaine County, airstrips, and airports in suburbs in places similar to real life Orange County and Palm Springs.

I just spent a few minutes looking through all the screenshots released so far, and it does look like their avoiding a big part of the map, all we can see in the screens is Los Santos and the countryside to the north of the city (if the orientation of the city is similar to real life). They have yet to show whats to the north east/east of the city, which could have a whole lot more countryside and maybe another city/large town, so it's possible as mentioned that they are hiding alot of the map, to stop giving away what else there is.

From the screens it looks like the map ends at the mountains to the west of Los Santos, and the coastline continues up past what is believed to be mt Chilliad, so for all we know everything we've seen so far could be a half or even 3rd of the whole map. And if it is bigger than GTASA, GTAIV and RDR combined, then what we have seen does not look like enough to be that size. The scene in the trailer (trevor driving a jeep out a plane) shows alot of desert, but the screens do not show much of a large flat desert area, so that could be part of the map not shown in screens.

I made a quick rough sketch of what i believe to be what we have seen so far, certain areas i'm not sure about their location so i left them out (towns, wind farm etc...):

We haven't seen yet many suburbs/cities near los angeles (east: pasadena, san bernardino, south: orange county, long beach). I think that they are hiding them. I think that R* probably show some suburbs on the next trailer. With them los santos will be huge. LS little bigger than la noire is more than possible.

You are totally wrong with your map. I suggest you to have a view into the map analysis thread. There are maps which are more accurate than yours.

countrysides and deserts on those sketch are way too small! since we already know for a fact that LS will be the size of the whole GTAIV map, i believe the rest should be nearly the size of RDR and SA maps, so your sketch is wrong...

we can only hope for the best.

right now i am replaying san andreas a little bit, cruising around, flying around... and the best thing are those 3 cities. this feeling of going from a to b and to c is just super amazing!!! u can't just leave that out.

i am hoping for a mexican border with tijuana and something similar in size in the north. and maybe something to the east. i mean, there must be something !!! has to be !!!!

I looked in the analysis thread and one map i found had at least 1 thing wrong; the screenshot overlooking the city (with 2 protags), it shows the beach and the docks which according to his map are in the wrong direction. Dont get me wrong its a nice example of what the map is like, just wrong in some places. And i never said my map was right, just a very rough sketch of how i think it is.

I am including the parts of the map we have not been shown (if there is any), and its not to scale either, i just made it quick as a rough guide as to where certain landmarks are.

Game Informer: You just released the GTA V trailer. Can you talk about that project in any respect? Obviously, it looks like it's going back to San Andreas.

Dan Houser: I've got to be real careful here, or they will drag me through the office and whip me with barbwire. I will stick to exactly what's in the press release. It's Los Santos and the surrounding countryside - and a very big map.

Since this, i believe there is more than 1 major city.

Uhm... yeah.

This leads me to convince that it's just Los Santos.

It is called wishful thinking. Just like people were still gabbing about the voice of CJ in the trailer, even after it had been stated by Rockstar that no one from before GTA IV would even be mentioned in V.

I do not doubt that Dan Houser meant something with that barbwire sentence. But there will not be an entire second city.

Damn, I read this thread back then, long before I registered here.

OP and other worried posters were right with their concerns, unfortunately. R* wasn't "hiding a lot" back then. We THOUGHT they were, especially because of that Chiliad hiker scene from trailer 1, which turned out to be a massive bait.

Especially barely any land behind those hills that encircle the map (Palomino Highlands etc. - imagine having more landmass with towns behind those areas, or behind Mt. Gordo).

So yeah, OP, you became suspicious, and you were right. Unfortunately. Map layout really, really sucks in GTA V (IMO).

Americana

I remember a screenshot when they showed whole Sandy Shores and the desert. We thought they'd be more to it, but that is like 60% of usable countryside. :sadkek:

The Tracker

This post aged ridiculously well.

OP nailed every single detail before the game was even out.

Guy didn't realize 10 years after posting this there'd still only be one city. Sad stuff.

I think even before the game came out, people knew that other than small towns, Los Santos was gonna be the only city. If you thought there'd be more than one, you were an incredibly wishful thinker

GTA V's map was a gigantic f*ck-up. Being subjected to 10 years of the very same sh*tty map is even worse.

sh*t feels like purgatory

I don't understand why they didn't have a small airport in Paleto Bay.
