Map wise I am becoming very suspicious.

I posted this in another thread, but this is how big the map would be compared to SA if it is indeed a square map:

It doesn't look like there's enough room for another city, but we are getting a few villages and towns, apparently.

Uhhh, Dan Houser himself said almost a year ago that GTA V's map will be at least 3 times bigger than RDR's map, which is MANY times bigger than SA's. Your analogy fails sir.

And the analogy made by the writer from GI that the map will be bigger than RDR, GTAIV and SA combine is correct, but it is in fact MUCH bigger than just that, one time that RDR is bigger than IV and SA, and it came from Houser's mouth that the map will be more than 3 times bigger than RDR's.

Didn't they originally say RDR, IV, and SA combined?

Admittedly, yeah, I am suspicious. They've gotten rid of one traditional GTA thing: map being locked at the start. They might get rid of the endless sea as well.

Read my post that comes right before yours, it's even more than just RDR, IV and SA combined.

No, you are wrong. Recent user researches have proven, that RDR is about the size of SA (even a little bit smaller than SA).

V's land mass will be about 3 RDRs, the explorable underwater world will be 2 RDRs. That's roughly 3 SAs + 2 SAs.

I don't know where people are getting it that SA's map is slightly bigger than RDR's, when I seen several times map comparisons of all Rockstar games, and all pointed to RDR as being the largest map they've ever made. It doesn't seem likely that a PS2 era game had a bigger map than RDR.

i cant help but think when i am venturing into the wilderness from los santos im going to feel like im heading to a dead end or i have no sense of purpose as to why i'm going into the wilderness.

This will change quickly when you hop on a Dirtbike or Quad...

i still feel a bit suspicious . (R* still so secretive , so i hope trailer 2 will tell more especially) About biggest and the most ambitious game ever created , im not saying L.S + it surrounding area is small suck or what ever (well if g.i said that , LS = R* big series world size combine with room to spare . only retard dont get how big is that ) . But something fishy - like there will be at least one more city(even the small one count - or probably not) to make the airport become legit (against Dan Houser`s word in IV for not having pilot-able plane in IV ).

again only retard will not satisfied with L.S size . im feel suspicious ,and its not that im not satisfied.

Stupid topic. They will make as many airports as needed. One city doesn't mean necessary one airport. Look at Los Angeles therea are many airports in the same sity

That's complete and utter bullsh*t.

You can easily tell that both maps were designed with a different sense of perception, you can tell the view of RDR's map is from further away, and was made into a more realistic form, while San Andreas' is completely abstract.

The way the guy made this theory, simply analyses it by the size of the image that he picked to do it, so basically if he grabbed a picture of RDR's map with a higher resolution, it would result in him saying that RDR's is bigger.

I've seen analysis from different people by searching on google, and I came to the conclusion that SA's map goes around 13.9 sq miles while RDR's goes around 24 sq miles, which would mean RDR's map is twice as big as San Andreas'.

yes, your theory is like mine and i think or i guess that's the closest to reality map sizes!

People fly out of those airports to other cities. They don't fly from Los Angeles to Los Angeles.

Get into that thread and tell RockStarNiko and Magic_al where they have gone wrong.

Or better yet, actually read the f*cking thing this time.

There are actually people on this forum who put time and effort in measuring the maps with the in-game 'distance traveled' stats and have come to solid, conclusive and repeatable results.

All you, and a lot of other people can say in response is "hur everyone knows RDR's map is bigger than SA's lol". Idiot.

You come off as a juggalo who doesn't want to know how magnets work.

edit: that means you too, Vugo

You can not be serious that you can measure a map with such a method correctly. what you believe everything else is. that's too foolish to be true ;D

There's one thing that bothers me that the GTAwiki picked up... On the first trailer, there's a highway sign reading "Los Puerta Freeway"

user posted image

In real life Interstate 5 is one of the major roads between LA and San Diego...

Los Puerta, "The Door" in spanish... Maybe a border town between Mexico and the US?

Did you know that Mexico is SOUTH from L.A and North would be considered the valley beyond the Vinewood Sign perhaps San Fierro, Las venturas biggrin.gif

Actually it's two guys who say that.

And now, they don't just "say" it, they have actual proof, that RDR is about the same size as SA. The exact size is debatable, but everyone actually agrees, that RDR is no way larger than 16 sq miles.

Go and read the thread. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=531982

San Diego could be in the game (Southern California), but in GI I've read that there is only ONE city. Well. The map seems to be awesome, but one big city with a few villages and towns? I'd really like to have another city with an airport and a train station. But since GI issue I think Los Santos will be the only CITY. It will be a f*cking huge map which will be very fun to explore.

But personally I think another city would increase the atmosphere alot, even of I haven't seen much of the game yet. We'll see, maybe R* is really hiding something from us. But I think it won't be another city, unfortunately.

Anyway, it is going to be a AWESOME.

I don't know why everybody's worried about the size of the map. Rockstar aren't going to straight up lie about something that important.

The guy is using formulas to different maps that have different scaling, he's doing it wrong. He would need the information that usually comes with real life maps, that says from how far the view was made, so he could convert it to a same value as both maps, and then compare.

You can find people that know what they are doing on google and have already done the comparison way back a year ago or more, and you will see that San Andreas actually is around half the size of RDR.

I would love if someone posted a screenshot of San Andreas using the Draw Limit mod from up high from a certain edge of the map (overview), and then took a screenshot in RDR from a high up part of the map (which if I'm not mistaken is the Northeast edge of the map), that would probably clear up the size.
