The Packer should be renamed to Linerunner, and the Hauler should get its Packer name back.

Also:

The police car based on Ford Taurus -> Vapid Aurochs

HVY Dump -> HVY Dumper

Enus Windsor -> Enus Super Drop Diamond/Enus Spectre

I massively agree with this post. Why use the Packer's name for a semi, when the Linerunner is just waiting in the wings to be reused? Hell, even the Juggernaut from GTA 1 would have been a better choice for a semi, seeing as Rockstar's hell-bent on bringing back the 2D names. Although at this point, we should probably just be happy that Rockstar hasn't stuck the Linerunner name on a Supercar or something.

I agree with the renameing the Windsor as well (and not just because it should've been a vintage Jag - these days I'm expecting Rockstar to mangle old names in the worst way). Super Diamond is an over the top name as is, but considering the car and the GTA world as a whole, it almost makes sense that it would get stuck on an ultra luxury car like the Phantom. The problem is when you then go and take what is essentially a coupe version of that car, and give it a completely conventional name like the Windsor. If you're going to have a theme, stick with it! Name it a Super Sport Diamond or something.

And as long as we're taking about renaming cars, I'd love to see the Gresley and the Stanier renamed. Why do we have not one, but two quintessentially American vehicles (from different companies besides) named after obscure British railway engineers? The Durango in real life (like most SUVs on the market) has a name that makes you think of the rugged outdoors. The Crown Victoria has a name that evokes luxury and majesty. The GTA equivalents, on the other hand, get names that most people would have to look up on Wikipedia before they even make start making sense.

I remember in the run-up to GTA IV's release, we had a topic exactly like this one. We had a screenshot of the back of a Police Car (or Taxi, I don't remember, or care enough to look it up), and some people were trying to decipher what the squished-together writing near the right taillight spelled out. Now everybody knows it just spells Vapid, but this was before we knew the game was going to feature manufacturer names (or that half or them would be so stupid, in retrospect a sign of things to come). Everybody assumed it was the name of the car's model, somebody suggested the writing spelled "Elegant", and that was the end of it. The name made perfect sense. The Elegant was a large, domestic, semi-luxury car in San Andreas (Buick Roadmaster), so it would stand that the name would be used for the same kind of car in IV (Crown Victoria). Of course that wasn't the case, but I still maintain that "Elagant" would have been a great name for that car model. Again, I don't think I stand alone when I say it would've been a damn sight better than "Stanier".

Edit: Sorry for the wall of text. I guess my rant kinda got away from me.

My rant, part two.

Benefactor Surano -> should have been an Ocelot and have a different model name - we already have a Serrano, which is an SUV.

Benefactor Glendale -> Benefactor Admiral/Benefactor Justice

Obey Rocoto -> Pfister Rocoto

Police Maverick -> Police Frogger

LAZER in all-caps looks odd.

LAZER in all-caps looks odd.

When the Surano was first mentioned in one of the early previews, I always assumed a mistake had been made. I didn't think there was any way that Rockstar would give two vehicles (from the same company no less) what was basically same name. And alternate spellings aside, they are the same name! I kept believing this was a mistake on the journalist's part right up until the final car list was leaked - then I saw that with everything else Rockstar had screwed up regarding the game's vehicles, giving two cars almost indistinguishable names was more or less par for the course.

Regarding the Glendale (aside from the fact that the name doesn't suit a German luxury sedan in the first place), it's essentially an earlier Schafter, so why not name it the Schafter? One thing (I'll admit, out of many) that bugs the hell out of me is how Rockstar keeps assigning different names to different generations of the same vehicle. The new Suburban is called the Granger, yet the 1980's version of the same vehicle is called the Rancher XL? Does Rockstar think we're too stupid to tell the two apart if they were both called the Granger? Considering that recent updates have gone and attached meaningless letters to the first generation Oracle (XS) and the second generation Buffalo (S) to differentiate them, the answer appears to be a resounding yes.

I can't speak for everyone, but I liked being able to drive multiple generations of the same vehicle in the same game. It gave the cars a history, made the world seem deeper that it really was. When the concept first appeared in TBoGT, it established that Rockstar were taking their car continuity as seriously as they took the rest of the world they'd made. It's a shame it all appears to have fallen apart with GTA V.

You have brought up the 'Stanier' name. How about a Ret-Con, and call it the Crown Elizabeth? This would mean;

Ford Crown Victoria (Police Interceptor).

Vapid Crown Elizabeth (Police Interceptor).

Thoughts?

Maybe somebody threw a brick at the head designer of vehicles for GTA V or something but they've seemed to have woken up. These cars, each and every one of them, even the Virgo, are f*cking AWESOME! Oh my god, I tested the Windsor expecting to be driving it for a few minutes and that turned into an hour. I can't stop:

The Osiris is arguably the best hyper car in the car. Cool turbo exhaust note, lovely handling, and great speed. The Stirling GT... don't even get me started. And believe it or not, the Virgo is a damn fine car. I know, unbelievable but it is!

Hi !

A new video again about SUV/Off-roads, I will wait for the native trainer to come back for the next video because I got the new version of the game, and for the moment mods are disabled.

(I follow the trainer list, that's why some of the cars are in SUV but are maybe in reality in Off-Roads.)

Enjoy !

@Sting

But how long it will last. I've been there before, some of the new cars are actually nice to drive, but the fun is wearing out quickly, because there is nowhere to go. Are you gonna hop in your car and drive circles around the map to Paleto Bay and back?

Also while Sterling GT is not bad (could be better tho), the Virgo could be taken straight out of SR. The details, the wrong dimensions, oh God, why?

:lol: That's the problem. Hopped in my Windsor and Stirling GT and felt like this. They're excellent as GT cars but you can't really go anywhere, can you? It's a shame. Bad handling cars leave you disappointed but good cars leave you wanting more from the map.

The Virgo really should have been called Esperanto or Washington.

Edit: Apparently, the Windsor has a (somewhat) unique interior. It has some wood panneling, as opposed to the Super Diamond. Well, that's a good step, I guess. Makes it feel more like it should feel.

How about this?

I just need to vent this:

Rockstar rebadged the Virgo from Dundreary to Albany when Dundreary is already in the game. *Facepalm*

Couldn't they've kept the branding concistent between two games in the same era at least?

They did so with the Buccaneer, Packer, Rancher, Bobcat, Blista etc. New cars, same brand,

though most models are evolved/devolved or expanded upon from the previous ones.

Made worse by the fact that, IMO the new Virgo even looks closely related to the old one.

As in the same model 5-10 years older than the IV Virgo.

Tl;dr: Grrr! Angry* mini rant about inter-game, intra-era concistency.

*Maybe not so angry as annoyed. Yes I care about these thing. I love the lore they've created around this franchise,

and I loathe these lapses of judgement which result in these internal inconcistencies.

Inb4 "Suggests that two different cars can't have the same name."

Yes I find it unreasonable that two different cars from two major American car makers, both

within in the same segment (Personal luxury car), made within roughly the same decade share a name.

It's like Dodge would unveil the new 2016 Dodge Camaro. Bet Chevrolet wouldn't be thrilled.

Or when they introduced the Stallion as a 'Declasse', despite it being a "Classique" in GTA IV, and still has "Classique" Badges. Also, this is despite there being unused "Classique" Police Chatter Lines.

Yeah. You won't hear me referring to the Stallion as a Declasse. *Shudder*

Regarding my previous post, I seem to have been mistanken, thinking the two Virgos being related appearance-wise.

The new Virgo is quite a lot Eldorado, and not much Continental. Thus it appears that it is the model name that is wrong,

and not the manufacturers name. That is aboslutely no excuse for using a name already established in HD era canon,

and not a brand new one, or one of the myriad other unused ones from previous games:

Remington, Greenwood, Clover, Lobo, Idaho, Tahoma are all unused in the HD era or, y'know Esperanto, seing as the IV version is not in the game in civillian form,

and the concistency it would establish with the 3D era Esperantos, all being based on a decade later Eldorado.

I could have seen them use the Idaho name. It has a similar side profile to the V "Virgo".

To be honest they messed it up in basic V already, because they should use the name Idaho (or maybe even make it Willard) on the Buccaneer (which is 90% '65 Riviera anyway) and keep the name Buccaneer for the Virgo.

Man, they really managed to make the 300SL ugly somehow but I can't say I'm surprised. And driving the Virgo made me want to throw my controller across the room. It handles like a modern sedan. Not to mention those headlights look like Lego blocks. There's no way I'm buying this game AGAIN for PC to fix what Rockstar screwed up. They don't deserve getting paid twice.

Hey.

Or maybe it's because handling in IV actually varied from car to car? Premier is fun to drive in GTA IV, while in V it's meh.

Definitely the cars in IV had something to them, and it was partially caused by the individual traits (almost each car was different in terms of characteristics) and partially by the fantastic models, which could be easily used in 2014 NG game without any problems. Main issue with V cars is that you easily tell that they were made by two different teams, one, which was making cars to IV, which are made with pietism and attention to smallest details and second one, who made half assed cars just to put them into the game. Just compare Penumbra, Rebel or Sadler with cars like Adder or Gauntlet. While the first group would fit the IV cars, the second one looks like taken straight out of the SR. Also many cars that were added in the DLC got terribly mismatched dimensions, being caricatures of their real life counterparts (look at Blade or Virgo for example).
