My review of the Massacro . . .

97ERz2j.jpg

I never thought I'd like this car, especially after seeing the full car for the first time when Rockstar unveiled the High Life downloadable-content pack. At first glance, it looked like a rehash of the Carbonizzare and the Rapid GT combined. The rear fascia had Rapid GT written all over it and the C-pillars looked a bit daft, too narrow and out of proportion. But I finally tried to car for the first time today and, wow.

I'm in love.

SE2BhBt.jpg

When I came home today, I simply let the game update itself and once it was finished doing so, I headed to Micheal's garage to try out the new cars. I had doubts to be honest, I didn't think I'd be spending more than 20 mere minutes with these cars. I was like, "Lemme' try out the Zentorno" but then I saw Massacro on the list and decided to try it instead. I sped to the Los Santos Customs shop, surprised that the car had the exhaust note of a Coquette (one of my favorite exhaust notes in the whole entire game) instead of a Rapid GT. I eagerly coated my Massacro in a striking blue paint job in order to make it look similar to this. After that, I gave the car a nice dark tint to hide out it's awkward looking interior. I then sifted through the customization options to try and find a carbon fiber roof option but was disappointed. The beautiful black rims I later found were pretty fitting though:

XNwVb8w.jpg

When I finally drove out of the shop, I was surprised with the results. It actually looked like an Aston Martin Vanquish. The car was actually attractive, seriously attractive. I took it for a refined and civilized drive past the University of San Andreas and a couple of Richman's finest mansions until I reached the Playboy Mansion (I was not that surprised by the handling, as you should know I don't care for V's driving mechanics). I was exploring as usual, but then realized how many photo opportunities there were. This car sure has a unique stance!

hCcOg0T.jpg

After snapping a few shots of this swoopy grand tourer in front of the Playboy Mansion, I set out for my trip up to Paleto via the scenic Great Ocean Highway. Whilst leaving the Los Santos city limits, I realized that I was directly behind a black Rapid GT so I quickly compared the two cars. And to be honest, the Massacro made the Rapid GT look like utter rubbish, almost obsolete. I felt like a complete badass rolling beside the Rapid GT, and I was glad there was nothing like my car on the road.

XPIUO2V.jpg

I stopped in Chumash to visit the 24/7 convenience store by the Historical Family Pier after having some fun on the Great Ocean Highway. A few locals stopped to look at my car and I had some more fun snapping a few extra photos of my car under the bright lamppost.

YT5wDor.jpg

After that, I headed back on the road and just cruised without feeling the need to hit the gas whatsoever. Even though I wasn't a major fan of it's handling, I did enjoy cruising it around the countryside as if it was a genuine grand touring car. As I crossed the bridge that headed for the tunnel near Lago Zancudo, I realized how much of a poser the Massacro was. It looked sumptuous, just absolutely gorgeous. Never have I felt so much like an executive boss driving any other car within this game, not even the Vacca. This car was just something else. I couldn't help but stop near the The Lost MC's favorite cafe to snap a few more photos, this time with my headlamps on.

cJ2KdsY.jpg

The looks of this car struck me even more.

sKm5n9r.jpg

I decided to stop for the night near a random cactus . . .

hdpwRqj.jpg

. . . The next morning, I arrived at Paleto's main shopping center, which looked rather sublime and peaceful with the surrounding pine forests and the magnificent views of the mountains in the distance. Unsurprisingly, the Massacro didn't look out of place in such a striking location.

zhMwSdV.jpg

After a while of just sitting in the car and listening to LSRR whilst waiting for the sun to rise, I began to closely admire the car and carefully observe it's unique design cues. I absolutely adored the enormous rear haunches on the Massacro that heavily reminded me of the Vanquish, and the way the body lines crept all of the way from the front fascia to intercept with the rear haunches was honestly kind of sexy (you know, for a car).

dkyvbu2.jpg

The Rapid GT's rear fascia was always rather decent in my eyes, but it needed a little more pizazz. The Massacro, for the most part, provided that much needed spice. At first the two rear fascias appear almost too similar, but the Massacro ditched the atrocious stacked exhausts that were present on the Rapid GT, and it made the rear fascia much swoopier, much more appealing. The haunches definitely helped as well as the gorgeous, more slanted roof-line.

nfgnorL.jpg

What seemed odd to me was that Rockstar didn't overkill the car with tacky carbon fiber at all. Instead, an appropriate amount of carbon fiber was used and it actually made the car appear more exquisite and regal, even more sporty. The sideskirts, the mirrors, the curvy front splitter, the rear diffuser, and even the headlamps were all wrapped in carbon fiber. It all looked sort of fitting, it all worked out pretty well if you ask me.

c4mANHU.jpg

I simply couldn't stop myself from snapping more and more photos of this car, it was really that stunning.

kA08bEa.jpg

When the sky had finally cleared, I headed back south and enjoyed windy cliffside roads, occasionally stopping to take in the sights.

fq7GYlx.jpg

Unique color of the car looked it's best at this time of day as well. I had decided to stop my journey on the Bixby-lookalike bridge that neared Ranton Canyon. I thought it was the best place to end such a simple yet beautiful journey.

5B1y2ZJ.jpg

At first I presumed I'd resent testing the Massacro out. But I quickly realized how great of a car it was and how utterly beautiful it looked and felt to drive. It made a simple journey from Richman to Paleto absolutely splendid and unforgettable. It may not be the fastest car nor the best handling car, but it sure is one of the most beautiful and one of the most lively feeling cars in the whole entire game. It's a true grand tourer. It has it's flaws: I don't like it's interior (they could've simply reused to Super GT's) and I entirely like the way it handles, but it is still a sublime car.

xRY5sGs.jpg

My Score of the Massacro:

8.5/10

I'd say the headlights are based on the Honda NSX.

Actually, the Massacro handles pretty good. It is the second best sports car.

I admit that I did enjoy driving it more than most other sports cars, but I just never could grow a strong connection to the way the cars handled in V.

I'm gonna have a little more idealistic and optimistic outlook right now... the returning vehicles, butchered or not at least show us that R* still remembers them. On the other hand, from the usual cynical viewpoint, it may as well mean they're pulling poor fan pandering by slapping them on without care.

I still have some hope two. The latest update was rather similar in theme to the one before it (the Business Update), so they may take a break from all the fancy supercars and bring us something more varied again, like the Beach Bum pack.

Back when supercars were beautiful...

Did you just say supercar and then try to post a picture of a DeLorean?

You have never driven in a DeLorean have you?

I love the way they look personally, but god DAMN those things are slow as hell.

I was saying that more in regard to the design, but yes, it was unfortunately stuck with the PRV V6. Still, I'll take a gorgeous Giugiaro designed car that needs an engine swap over a fast but tacky and ugly car any day.

It's kind of hard to stay satisfied with a car in this game, I realized. :/ I took my Massacro out for another spirited cruise today and whilst I was still in love with the car's design, I just got bored driving it. The handling in this game just fails to provide thrills and a sense of immense connection to the road for me. I'm a bit bummed out because I want to love the Massacro all of the way, but I can't. :(

The idea of taking it out on extravagant grand tours and capturing a whole bunch of photographs of it is exciting but the actual trip itself is a tad bit dreary. I guess I loved the car so much yesterday and the day before due to it's looks and it's striking presence. Therefore a short-term review of it is just bound to be positive. But a long-term review isn't gonna be as positive.

But that's how you review cars in GTA V. You do a quick one, otherwise you can't review it after noticing everything drives the same boring way.

Saints Row is a bad game. Doesn't change the fact one aspect of it is better than GTA V.

I've just fallen in love with the Felon GT. That thing drives in a so much more pleasing way compared to other V cars.

It was one of the first GT cars that I drove in V. It's okay, but not really that shocking. It sure as hell handles better than the Zion Cabrio.

Anyone got a side by side of the Massacro and Rapid GT from the back? Are they really the exact same?

They aren't exact and to be quiete honest, the Massacro looks a lot better. Think of the Rapid GT's rear fascia with normal quad exhausts, a shorter and more slanted roof line, and humongous-enormous rear haunches that make the rear fasica look so much wider.

Been playing since release day and have just seen the scrap truck for the first time! Dressed Trevor in some overalls with the taco bomb cap, just to complete the look, tuned into rebel radio and went cruising..

The Asea would make a great "boring sedan to fill the streets", but Rockstar goes and make it the rarest car in the game. The Premier and Intruder also should spawn more.

Same problem here as with every gta to date. Rare cars are everywhere, common cars are almost impossible to find. Want a super car or classic muscle car? Easy, they are everywhere! Want a boring minivan or sedan? Drive round randomly in circles for hours hoping that one will randomly spawn!

I modded the traffic spawning in GTA IV to solve these problems. There is actually a line in the spawning file called 'boring sedans'. Any vehicle on this line becomes stupidly rare (in IV this included the premier, merit, lokus etc). Remove these vehicles from this line and they spawn like any other vehicle. They also forgot to add some vehicles into the spawning files in IV (pony and burrito). I suspect they forgot to add the Asea in V.

I can't wait for the PC version of V so I can fix the traffic spawning, I am fed up with supposedly rare vehicle spawning everywhere!

I can't believe they called that line "boring sedans". The Lokus was awesome! That and it looks just plain unprofessional and weird to make them just as unique and fleshed out like every other car, only to put them in a category called "boring sedans" AND make them rare to spawn.

Also, if they forgot to put cars like the Pony and Burrito in the spawning file, then how did they spawn regardless? You'd think that if they weren't there at all the game would never spawn them.

They forgot to add the Pony and Burrito in the spawning files for traffic, but they still spawned on specific locations and maybe missions.

Mission traffic is often scripted and different to regular free roam traffic. In IV the pony and burrito appeared in scripted mission chase scenes but never in free roam traffic. In IV, the pony and burrito had only one fixed spawn point each, the pony in a street in broker and the burrito out the front of a shop in Alderney. I never understood why they went to the trouble of modelling these cars only to call them boring and practically exclude them from regular traffic spawning. I guess they have a team who know what they are doing making vehicle models, then some idiot writing the spawning files. In IV the cognoscenti was even in the 'boring sedans' group!

I have found a way to improve SP spawning on V (I'm on Xbox). Do not store cars in safe house garages, only in the purchasable ones. The game has limited vehicle memory slots available, and safe house cars use these as well as traffic. Purchasable garages work differently and do not use these memory slots. By leaving your safe house garages empty you leave more memory slots open for traffic vehicles and so you should get more traffic variety and have a larger chance of rarer vehicles spawning like the Futo or Sabre etc. It's still not perfect but with full safe house garages I was often seeing only two different vehicle types at once, now with empty safe house garages I'm seeing often seeing 6 or more types at once.

This can all be fixed with mods on pc (if they ever release it...) but consoles are stuck with it.

Finding out how the whole vehicle spawning works broke my childhood dreams.

This is why the vehicle pool is even smaller in MP - it has to be the same for all the players around in the session, at least I think so. I'm still impressed the game is able to just give you any vehicle you call from the mechanic, though.

So I have to pick between having full garage and good spawning system? This is simply ridiculous.

I was driving my Tornado today, and it gave me hope. At first I thought it would be very hard/impossible to restore the body roll to something more pleasing like GTA IV, since the cars in V seem to have almost any, but the Tornado does have a lot of body roll, meaning that at least on the PC version, it is possible to restore it.

By the way, I find it ridiculous that you need to change the rims to add white walls/custom tires to a car. I really hated changing the stock wheels from the Roosevelt and Tornado to give them white walls.

Simply speaking every little detail has to be broken in this game in one way or another. If other games allow you to put different tires on different rims (SR), why GTA doesn't allow that? Or why can't we paint rims into chrome or metal color? Eh, this is so wrong.
