crispypistonx8
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what sniper rifle that is but there is no exact match. However I am 100% certain that rifle in that quad artwork is not based on an AR pattern rifle for two reasons. #1 the muzzle device and barrel (someone already said there's no gas tube) (there's also no front sight/gas block) are not compatible with a AR type upper receiver. #2 that type of stock would not fit on an AR rifle. The gun in question (imo) is a box fed bolt action (there's no traditional OP system such as gas tube/rod) that does not exist as seen in said art. There are Dif features I'd like to point out about the gun. The stock looks aftermarket like something you could get out of a mail order magazine for a 22.cal or an SKS to make it accept the AR but stock. One more thing about the stock, the pistol grip is way to far forward in comparison to any rifle I'm personally familiar with. The scope is mounted directly to the top of the receiver. The muzzle brake and barrel just scream Russian to me. Not being familiarized with a larger number of bolt actions I took to Google and a few vary reliable gun forums with all of my observations but had no luck in identifying it,maybe something I have pointed out will help someone do what i couldn't. Idk hope it's helpful. Edit: stephan123 my three choices are Benelli m4,S&W M&P R8,Barrett M107 Edited November 12, 2012 by crispypistonx8
Okin
Maybe a little off topic, forgive me. However, I REALLY hope that not ALL the guns are going to have that green lighting to them.
Ryder 556
After plenty of time staring at the sniper picture, I'm gonna have to say it is partially based off of the L96 AWP. The muzzle break kinda gives that part away. But as we can see there isn't a bolt, so it's gotta be semi automatic, or the artist just forgot to add in the bolt. So I'm gonna say it's some kind of semi auto L96 AWP hybrid. EDIT: Upon closer inspection, i'm gonna have to say that it is 100% an L96 AWP. It doesn't look like there is a bolt handle, but it could always be hidden behind the quads handle bar. Also it's an artwork, so it doesn't accurately represent what it will look like in the game. Well about halfway, it looks like the artist started two draw AR/M16 below the handle bars an then changed there minds about what he should be holding, added a scope then finished the piece with L96 barrel, muzzle, forestock. Mystery solved thanks Edited November 13, 2012 by crispypistonx8
anus
FFS, can we get some NEW variants of weapons for a change? Sick and tired of the same damn AK47/M4/M16 combo. How about the SCAR? G36? Galil? INSAS?
-Eddie-
Well this will have the largest arsenal of weapons in a GTA so hopefully we'll see something new. As Franklin is supposed to play a sniper role hopefully we'll see some really high powered rifles with long range for use in the wilderness. Such as this:
anus
I hope that 'largest arsenal of weapons in a GTA' means an equal proportion of different kinds of weapons (melee/guns) instead of giving us the same guns we've had ever since III and just adding a buttload of melee weapons. Edit: stephan123 my three choices are Benelli m4,S&W M&P R8,Barrett M107 I thought the same things, but if you look closely, you will notice the AR charging handle,so there's no way for it being a bolt action. The artist probably made a mashup of an AR-15 adding a solid fiber glass stock,a long heavy barrel without a gas tube and a gas block and a buzzle brake typical of AI rifles. There's NO WAY that this thing can operate lol. Maybe it was done like I said a few pages ago, just for the artwork. I'm looking forward to other screens and to the second trailer showing new firearms.
Stephan90
Another thing, gtav.net made a weapon topic based on ours. They called the night stick "PR-24". Is it really called like that? And should I describe it as a "Side-handle baton"?

A quick Google of it reveals that it is a type of baton and Wiki (not that I trust it) say it has become a 'genericized [sic] trademark within the law enforcement.. community'. A very Americanised bit of writing there. It can't hurt to change it I suppose.

Mr. Tuna Taco
there is no ak47 with laser sight, the laser is coming from the sniper in the chopper Thank you master, I almost cried when I saw the reddot on an AK..

Ryder 556
I'd go with L96 as well, at least until we get an actual screen shot of it. And I'm not really sure on the 3 weapons I'd like yet. Definitely the SIG SG 553 as one of them though. Been having a blast with it in BF3, and you don't see SIG rifles in video games all that often. As for the other two, I'll have to think about them. The only thing that is equal is the muzzle brake lol. Don't you think that it's not enough? Anyway,it's not true at all that we are going to have the same guns. The AR and the AK series are a musthave in any GTA game, so if we don't count them (that are also totally diffrent from the versions that we had on IV),all the other guns that have been shown are brand new. From the GI issue: " Grand Theft Auto V also includes the biggest arsenal to date for the franchise". I think that we are gonna get some really good toys to play with
