PC Version of GTA V Discussion

He got a deal with microsoft for crackdown when he started realtime worlds, it was probably being talked about behind the scenes for a while before then though, realtime worlds probably precludes crackdown in the public eye, but was probably an idea and an offer for a while (think of zamp and west from infinity ward and how they planned REspawn from prior to releasing MW2, even though it was meant to stay secret, like David Jones' deal probably was)

Logical Speculation ^

He may have just felt that he'd done enough setting up at Rockstar and could go and start something new.

DymeDef, yep, he is the founder of DMA Design that was later renamed Rockstar North when they joined Rockstar Games. I think they were the first to take the family name.

And yea, GTA, they wanted to do this what we see now since even GTA 1, they just knew it wasn't time, but never too early to start building, gutting, rebuilding, salvaging etc. They are getting there, David Jones likely overshot his goal with APB (early target videos show a very different game than what came).

f*ck I hate this forum, why does it do that sh*t?

I ahve never seen half of the sh*t that happens on this forum on any other forum. Can't copy from a post directly or it does some stupid hyperlink sh*t. Cant copy from above in a quote or it does what just happened to me and even typing after it or retyping the sh*t out it still does it.

Ergh, /endrant

lh1 can I get a source? No offense, just the internet you know?

Haha no big deal, in fact, I like it, I feel that it shows me that you are interest to know more and I am happy for that :p

Anyway here's the source

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Jones_(game_developer)

Thanks.

Does anyone know why he left? Or was it just because he wanted to try to take GTA online before GTA could?

Or was APB really just an experiment? f*ck this is CRAZZZZYYYYYY to think about now, I could have been wasting my last three years almost on some f*cking experiment that didn't even get finished? Ugh lol

It is possible that it was meant to be this grand, living and breathing open world to actually be GTA Online. Except with its own personality and tone.

The thing they began to push was "players as content". So PVP, grouping and other activities that are basically "made" by players participating in them, were most likely a focus. Sounds a lot like what GTA Online wants to do to me (Except it's small compared to GTA Online's larger ambition of adding entire new CITIES and such.)

I imagine they just lost the budget and let it live on for as long as it could and as best as it could, lol.

@DymeDef, correct to corrollate APB. The producersof that game came from original DMA, he was one of the original GTA people up through becoming Rockstar North. The creator of GTA, David Jones. APB has always been a market test/tech demo for a future GTA for me because of who made it, good eye :^:

It is potential he went to create an IP to compete before Rockstar got there (true grime style, as it was that kind of story for that game) or that he did it to check for them, before they were sure of the direction GTA will go in the future.

Tried it back when it came out, hated it, felt like crap. But it is indeed made by someone who is connected to the very roots of GTA :D

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/7660/GTA-Creator-Unveils-All-Points-Bulletin/

At a joint press conference in Seoul, Korea, publisher Webzen, Inc. and David Jones, the creator of Grand Theft Auto, unveiled today his All Point Bulletin.

tthanks for that article.

"As an avid gamer and creator of many single player games, it has been my dream to create an online game experience that provides the player with the ultimate freedom to do whatever he wants, in a thriving, living environment," said David Jones, founder and creative director of Real Time Worlds.

"When looking for a publishing partner for APB, it was imperative to find a company that was a worldwide leader in online games and we found that in Webzen, Inc.

funny how this is what he says when he talks about it, but then it changed and reflected nothing that GTA is. Or anything what he said at all for that matter.

So this guy is the original creator of the GTA games?

One of the creators :D

Full creators list

David Jones, Russell Kay, Steve Hammond and Mike Dailly

Well they started development in 04 or 05, and didnt release the Key to the City Beta event until 10. RTW just did not prioritize right and they also didn't have enough funding to back the project, which was why they had to charge people monthly to play the beta lol.

It changed design half way through development and thats a lot of wasted money. It could have been that they wanted it to be only PvP like it is, and this meant that they had to rethink the scope of the game again. But they definitely went against several of their claims in early development.

Thanks lh1 again :p

brian, RTW also had a game in development called Huxley. Huxley actually halted development on APB for a while too. RTW seemed like they were shooting for the sky without much of a foundation built. No one had heard of them outside of probably anyone who closely followed the team members that joined Jones and anyone who followed Rockstar back then. But Gaming wasn't as involving as it was back then so I doubt THAT many people followed the developers in a team like they do now.

All I know, is RTW was not smart with their money at all, and in several instances.

If you want to know more about him

try to go here

http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/david-jones/23/570/795

Honestly, I don't care about him or RTW. They didn't stay true to their game and that ended up making them fall through.

Not in a disrespectful way, I just am not really interested. I didn't like RTW back then because of that and I never will. One thing I do not like is when a team sets out to do something, gets all this fan base and then says f*ck it we are changing the game completely. Not just like, oh hey were going to focus a bit more on this, they flat out changed the entire game pretty much.

GTAO sounds exactly like how RTW described APB when they were first talking about it. I am pretty sure they even called themselves a GTA Online, and will be focusing on the players and their interactions with the world and the other players. This turned out to be a phony and honestly, after these years sounds like they were trying to spike interest in their game and company that no one had heard of.

I'm waiting for Watch_Dogs as much as I'm waiting for GTA V, maybe more than GTA V, because unlike GTA V, Watch_Dogs is officially coming to the PC, with gta v' pc version all we have are guesses, supposed leaked clues and our own speculations... I don't understand the beef between WD and GTA, as well as the Saint's Row vs GTA, I like them both...

If I can get the DDS's from that file and the console version of it, it would mean a fair deal to me to be able to compare them/do some backwards analysis.

PNG's would be fine too.

I couldn't tell, it probably was a few pages back. But i couldn't find anything about it.

Thanks for the link. This may much likely be it. At least, very possible

agreed. The waiting for the PC version of GTAV is way too frustrating and all this silence...

I want to try out Saints Row, I think SR IV. SRIV souldn't be compared to GTAV, just too silly.

But in the end, I'll get them all 3: GTAV, WD and SRIV. And of course all the other games I like once I build a new PC.

Yea, where GTA is parody of real life things, Saints Row is like a parody or satire of GTA itself. Which is really not very deep at all, they rip the game off at every level, even with a crappy rip off of LC layout. Purple dildo is like, one of their main marketing tools, and it is a san andreas weapon lol.

"I liked that series better in 2004, when it was called san andreas. It was a better game then" :p

Yeah indeed lol. Wanna realism and fun sh*t? Why not GTAV and SRV. There you go, balanced between realism and sillyness XD.

Between a baseballbat and big giant purple dicksword lol

]I recommend you to start from SR2 if you're playing on pc, (the first saints row was an xbox 360 exclusive), sure the graphics kinda suck in SR2 but you'll want to experience the (almost) full storyline

60m steam users? many of them are double accounts and cheap 3rd world countries users who only like free games and over use / abuse trading, cross region games, giveaways and cheap deals

Because every 3rd world country citizen is a hobo. :rol:

Go back to your playpen.

This is awesome..

If R* doesnt pull sh*t together somebody is gonna port the game to PC with all this included PC resources XD

There isn't that much of the pc files in there, just a few tid bits here and there, like bread crumbs.

brian is talking too much lol

developers don't hate consoles, they simply prefer not to work in a big corporation environment if possible because it limit creativity and force them to work on corporate timing

no sane and rational software programmer hate drm, not when their own life work is being stolen in front of their eyes, they would simply prefer drm that is beneficial to everyone

60m steam users? many of them are double accounts and cheap 3rd world countries users who only like free games and over use / abuse trading, cross region games, giveaways and cheap deals

the future of pc gaming is in crowd funded games

lol dude, sorry to say, but here in Costa Rica ( 3RD WORLD HELL YEAH ) games are actually more expensive , not " cheaper " because the retail games come from USA so they need to charge the shipping, so a 60$ game is prob like 90$ here, I buy the games on Steam,Origin or Amazon anyway so I dont give a f*ck about that, but it would be kind of nice to have the retail box game but its just way more expensive.. free games? go play some free games and ask them where they are from lol, or just check the pings and see if they actually are from the " 3RD WORLD", I quit APB like 1 month ago btw, and I think of all the people I played with, just 1 of them was from Mexico I think , all the other ones were from the USA, all of that you mention happens everywhere not just here.

Yay, thank god that Undead Labs released State of Decay for PC... I can be calm for now and not think about GTA V for PC. I hope only that they will announce it soon.
