PC Version of GTA V Discussion

this is my reply on another thread :

What a load of crap. There's no way for ubisoft to know how many download a game. Not only that, but people who download weren't all going to buy it anyway. Maybe a few percent would actually cough up. GTA IV sold millions on PC.

There is a lot of people where they download game and if it is good they buy it.

I'm one of these people. I pirated GTA IV, saw how glitchy it was, didn't buy it. After patches were out, I retry it, and then I bought it. Did same with many other games, but many of them just got deleted. I don't want to buy game and only after that it is just buggy, errors, etc.

This.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this. Rockstar made a post regarding Trailer #2 just before it came out via their official Steam group.

First it was the Pest Control Artwork on Steam

Then the mention of GTA V Trailer #2

It's starting to become obvious that the PC version will come sooner than we think, not 6 months. Why would Rockstar promote it on Steam if it weren't coming out for PC? Why so early?

And before you say that they are just trying to advertise everywhere they can, it is not permitted to promote/advertise a game on Steam officially than won't eventually be available for purchase.

Anyways, things are looking good. icon14.gif

They are just trying to make people buy as many consoles ASAP, there may be another contract involved with Sony and MS to keep quiet about PC until much closer to main console release while the PC release would have an announcement that would take place one or two weeks before the main release, and that it would state a delay of 1-2 weeks after the main one. Like Max Payne 3 - i still hope for this!

It's like advertising Uncharted on xbox live.

I remember reading it somewhere a couple weeks ago but unfortunately cannot recall where.

No way these screenshots nor the trailers are from consoles, no way

It's either a custom ps3 or xbox with enhanced GPU and CPU (who knows, i'am not an expert) or a bad ass PC

I think that the PC version is ready (or 90% ready), they will just released 7 months after consoles on purpose. Most people will buy it twice

No way what we've seen in screenshots or trailers so far would require a "bad ass PC" to run. My PC is like 4 years old and judging by what i've seen, I'm willing to bet it'll run GTA V with ease.

Well, pretty sure R* have now confirmed the trailer was compiled entirely of non pre-rendered gameplay footage from PS3.

There is definitely an agreement between Rockstar and Sony & Microsoft to sell even more consoles older than my grandfather at the end of their cycle. Even though i own an x360 and a ps3 i disgust every game i see on them for the past few years because of low res , low textures , low frame rate and lack of anti aliasing. If the console versions come out on early April , they might announce a PC version a month after the console release with a release date of late June. I sadly don't think they would announce a PC version before console release , because of the business side. I will hold out till summer , if there is no news , i will play it on the ps3 or x360 , by sitting 5 meters away from my hdtv in order to see sharp visuals:)

Rockstar are just concentrating on what most people have, which is obviously a console you connect to the television. Not everyone cares about adding their own 3D objects into a game. I suppose in time they will turn their attention to a PC copy, hopefully much better quality than Vice city or the San Andreas copies.

Matt Bertz claimed that the demo of GTA V was shown on Playstation 3. It's known that Rockstar would usually prefer to show their game on XBox 360 since their games usually looked better on it since the X360 is longer on the market than the PS3 and so they had more time to work with the eingine. But it seems that this isn't the case anymore. It seems that Rockstar has managed it to optimize the engine so far that it looks exactly the same on both consoles - XBox 360 and Playstation 3. If you take a look at how GTA IV looked like on the consoles then you will see the it looks on X360 better than on PS3 because it has a slightly better framerate and it's less blurred, etc. That is history. Max Payne 3 already looks pretty much the same on both consoles. Only difference is that the PS3 version represents not as much lights as the X360 version but still, the difference isn't really noticeable unless you've both consoles and you test Max Payne 3 on both consoles at the same time and you look at it like a doctor. Anyway what I want to say is that this discussion of if GTA V's trailer was rendered on a Playstation 3 or XBox 360 isn't really needed because the game looks on both platforms exactly like the same. It's probably even better optimized than Max Payne 3!

Sorry I am not fluent in english so may be there will be some mistakes. I've didnt read the whole topic so someone may already talked about that.

I've just red the IGN iterview, and I think it's really a lack of respect from Rorckstar to not say if there will be a pc version or not. Come on, of course they already know if they'll do one, I dont understand why they dont tell us now. Even if they say" OK sorry guys but pc owners u'll have to wait until december 2013 to play the game", it's not a problem for me.

90% of videos about gta on youtube just come from pc gamers, mods, icenhancer etc.. All that things that pc communauty make, contribute to the popularity of the franchise. I really think they take us for idiots.

I know the demo was on Ps3. This guy was saying that trailer 2 and such was on Ps3, and we have no idea about that.

Game2048: LOL. But not for gaming. There's a difference between a PC in everyone's house and a gaming PC. I have a PC. It runs Minecraft on lowest settings from 5-30 fps. Looks like I'll be getting GTA 5 for it! dozingoff.gif

Maybe things are really different than in the past and this in every aspect. GTA IV was the first open-world game from Rockstar in HD on the RAGE and Euphoria Engine. Rockstar had some problems at that time with the new engine so it's not a surprise that the game was released 7 months later and it still was terrible optimized on PC. Rockstar's next game after GTA IV that came for PC was L.A. Noire in 2011. I heard that this game wasn't really good optimized either but it at least supports DirectX11 so it was at least in that aspect a movement in the right direction. That game was released 6 months after the console version. The next game from Rockstar Games after L.A. Noire that came for PC was Max Payne 3 which was released a half year ago. The game was very well optimized and it had some PC-exclusive features. It runs on outdated PCs with decent framerate and it runs perfectly on High-End PCs maxed out. It was simply perfectly optimized and it was only two weeks after the console version released.

At this point we know that GTA V will have PC-exclusive features when it will be released for the PC platform. Since GTA V runs the same engine as Max Payne 3 it's very likely that GTA V will be well-optimized like Max Payne 3 but the only question is how long the delay will be. When I think about all this then I think the release will happen sooner than that 6-8 months "pattern" from the past which was the case from GTA III until L.A. Noire. I think Steam really has moved something. If I would have to take a guess then I would say that the PC version will be delayed by about 2 months. I hope that it turns out to be the truth.

You must know that this is not real DirectX 11, it is supported, but no Tesselation. They just added tweaked "lines" of API so it works better for newer graphics with DX 11 support.
