Okay, what? I'm sure there's people here trying to be smart, but let's just pretend here. First of all if Rockstar and Valve had a massive falling out of epic proportions (as unlikely as it is) there is many other distributors for Rockstar to use. (GamersGate,GOG and Origin plus many others)

 

There won't be PC releases in the future because of falling returns? In the future there is nothing but gauranteed releases for PC as far as multi-platform gaming goes. New consoles using x86 architecture means developers have to essentially do one build (on PC) then port and tweak for consoles.

 

Games For Windows Live closing down? PC community rejoices at the news, it's horrible console U.I was a complete disgrace. Overall you'll find more people delighted than fearing at the loss.

GTA V will use upgraded Social Club, just like Max Payne 3, LA Noire, and Steam.

I know I'll get chewed up and spit out for this but, is it so much for a PCer to just go buy a used Xbox or PS3 to use until a PC version comes out? Or are PC people just that hardcore loyal they won't even touch a console? If it were me, and I had the extra cash, I'd do just that for a game that I practically cream myself thinkin' about. I kinda like watchin the kiddies have their little online console wars, or PC/console wars, or Mac/PC wars, cuz when ya get older you'll find the things you use to have a strong opinion about, you'll shrug off...cuz like's too short, and there are so many more important things to worry about. Yeah, I got a little off-topic. Happens in my old age.

 

why would anyone go out and buy an outdated piece of hardware when the new consoles come out in 2 months? Backwards. The console companies are milking extra sales before the death.

There is Social Club for X360 and PS3 too, not only for PC. GFWL is dead piece of crap. GTA V will use Social Club and Steam. Who wanna bet on that?

Yes, and it's Rockstar thing. They have created Social Club and they WILL use it with every game. But they WILL also use Steam.

GTA V for X360 and PS3 is like a goodbye from Rockstar. They didn't put so much money for GTA V only for X360 and PS3. That would be more than stupid. First GTA V for these 2 platforms, then for PC and next-gen. Putting so much effort and money for 8 year old hardware is just stupid. Rockstar can't say anything about PC/X1/PS4 because it would ruin sales. Why would people buy a game on old hardware when the same game is coming on the newest hardware? But because they do not know anything about it, people are buying it for current-gen consoles. True details and epicness of GTA V can be only shown on FULL HD and beautiful graphics.

So, let's say GTAV would not release for PS3 and X360, but only for PC, Xbox One and PS4, the sales would get a massive hit. It certainly would be significantly lower than it will be on PS3/Xbox 360, and later then on PC and perhaps next-gen consoles.

 

I know. What I meant was, IF people knew that it's coming for PC and next-gen consoles, would they still buy it or wait for it to release on another platforms? I think many people would just wait, while other would buy it for X360/PS3. Now nobody knows (well, people with common sense knows and it's proved that GTA V is coming for PC) because we have no confirmation, so they are going to buy it for X360 and PS3. When it's released for PC and next-gen consoles - people who knew it was coming will buy it for PC or Xbox One/PS4, many other people who already bought it for X360/PS3 would buy it again for PC or Xbox One/PS4. This way sales will be bigger and Rockstar will get even more money from PC and next-gen consoles (not more money than from X360 and PS3 sales, but still many people will buy GTA V for new platforms).

Actually, if you think about the numbers, and we dont know how much it costs additionally to port the game to PC, then even with 700K PC users wanting to buy it (twice your current figure on the petition) that'd equal ≈ $42,000,000 in gross sales for the base game at a price of say $60 (its not feasible to calculate an exact amount for all the locales of the world, it could cost less/more) this is using the standard console base price in the U.S. for example.

Recall the figures in '08 for GTA IV revenues from just consoles in the first day, first week (gamespot)

"The Rockstar Games parent said today that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold through to consumers 6 million units globally in its first week, generating income of approximately $500 million. First-day sales for the game hit 3.6 million [units] and tallied a staggering $310 million--nearly double Halo 3's $170 million day-one take and $10 million more than the sci-fi shooter's entire opening-week haul. "

So there is a reason that R* will cater to their largest consumer-base first AND dont forget, yes, some of us that have consoles are also PC gamers too!

I wont argue over "why is PC better, why is console better," that is childish. I'll just continue to play both. The arguments are for why R* would concentrate on console sales first - because money talks! Thats what businesses are in business for, to make money and ensure their customers are happy, especially their largest customer-base. Even w/ smaller entities, it still makes sense. If you built race engines & your average profit was 30% of your sales, avg sale $5,000 x 25 customers a week, then you'd be much more likely to cater to these customers over an avg joe that shows up wanting you to rebuild (to factory spec) his 1.4ltr Honda engine. Its not a "which is better" but which is the larger customer-base. I dont *know* the future but I'm pretty sure that "V" will be on PC, not a question of "if?" simply "when?"

So can I say already "I told you so"? Come on I'm waiting for it for almost a year ... ok I'll wait a bit longer.

Anyway I'm seeing GTA V PC being announced 2-3 weeks after consoles, Now more then before I'm sure about this. Rockstar will do what I've said since the beginning. GTA V will be a Next gen launch title and honestly I can even see it being exclusive for PS4 at the beginning, that agreement with SONY could include something like that. What could also explain the "oops" from the SONY guy that said the game looks awesome on PS4. That was a tease to see the reaction, no one in his right mind would write something like that and mistake a number for another.

Oh and about IGN, it's funny they removed the PC in the same day they released their "online preview", my guess is that Rockstar told them "and don't forget to remove the PC section of your website, you're just giving more evidence to S1LV3R_W0LF about our plan for the PC release and we want people to empty the shelves of the rest of the old hardware".

GTAV will be out before the end of the year for PC, write these words...

you better not compare IV to V. They are completely different games in terms of tech. IV was the first r* project for current gen consoles and it ran poorly even on these very consoles and PCs while V is maxing them out in all possible ways which means far more better optimization and with PCs being 10 and more times more powerful then ps3/360 it's no longer an issue.

you better not compare IV to V. They are completely different games in terms of tech. I am not comparing in terms of tech. I am comparing in terms of sales. And sales very pretty good assuming sh*tty optimization. Not saying that GTA V will have sh*tty optimization too.

 

@Silver Wolf, I hope you are right. Crossed my fingers. If you are right, I don't know... I will pray for you till the end of the world. I really hope you are right. Well, you made that thread "PC version is in the works and here's why", so you know much more than any of us here, I think. So yeah, I hope you are right.

Anyway, now every day for me, starting from September 17th, will be not as bad as before. Why? Because we can get PC announcement any time. And at least it's Fall, so time passes faster now. Would be really hard if today would be like April or May... That would be hard.

Hope Silver Wolf is right! I'm believing that GTA will be out before the end of the year too. There is a lot of evidence:

 

• Nvidia did the same "mistake" that Sony did, teasing the PCgamers. They claimed that V would be out in 2013;
• A brazillian guy that owns a youtube channel about games said he knows a guy from R* (that works on the euphoria tech). This guy told him that R* wasn't "giving a damn" about PCgamers when they first annouced that GTA wasn't come to PC on the same date of old consoles. So after the petition and the complaining, the R* started to hire ppl to port the lastest titles to PC. (That was in June, 2013). He said that R* was desesperate to port the game ASAP;
• A lot of retailers are already selling the pc version;
• And for last, we have this build codes suggesting that maybe the game is already ported. (I hope!!!!)

Nvidia and Sony leaked information about PC and PS4. Now we have those codes from leaked version of the game which shows us PC and PS4 versions of GTA V.

Well it was already clear for me that those versions already exist. If I'm not wrong, then I think Brian and Silver Wolf proved it. GTA V could be very good launch title for Xbox One and PS4. Then PC would be released at the same date too. Now I really thank that GTA V will arrive this year for PC and next-gen platforms. Because why not?

I think PC was made alongside X360 and PS3, while Xbox One and PS4 have been ported from PC. Also, developers allways gets information earlier, I mean they got information about next-gen consoles' architecture earlier so they had plenty of time to port it from PC.

I don't think that only after petition Rockstar decided to make a PC version. I can't believe that.

Still, petitions shows great support for Rockstar and that's great. Not many petitions get 350 000+ signatures you know.
