'Frankenstorm' to slam East Coast

Recommended Posts

Schemer

I think the last storm to hit us killed 4 or 5 people. I know two death were after the storm and during the eye, where people wanted to quickly fix

their roofs and stuff and wind up falling. Like I said in a few posts back I work with the volunteer fire department and the emergency response team

during every storm witch pretty much means a group of volunteer firemen chill at the station and responds during the storm to calls. We went to two calls

of people hurting them self after the storm trying to do stupid crap like hope on their roof in 40+ mph winds.

And yea it was pretty crazy cause in my town we were the only people to have power and cable so we was watching the news the whole time and during the storm

they said their sending the Louisiana National Guard to the neighbor hood and start evacuating cause they think the levy is going to over top. Minutes later a update came across

saying people had 7-8 feet of water in their houses and now it turned into a rescue mission. It just people wasn't expecting it.

The special weather statement for the province of Ontario is as follows:

Special weather statement for:     City of Toronto     Windsor - Essex - Chatham-Kent     Sarnia - Lambton     Elgin     London - Middlesex     Simcoe - Delhi - Norfolk     Dunnville - Caledonia - Haldimand     Oxford - Brant     Niagara     City of Hamilton     Halton - Peel     York - Durham     Huron - Perth     Waterloo - Wellington     Dufferin - Innisfil     Grey - Bruce     Barrie - Orillia - Midland     Belleville - Quinte - Northumberland     Kingston - Prince Edward     Peterborough - Kawartha Lakes     Stirling - Tweed - South Frontenac     Bancroft - Bon Echo Park     Brockville - Leeds and Grenville     City of Ottawa     Gatineau     Prescott and Russell     Cornwall - Morrisburg     Smiths Falls - Lanark - Sharbot Lake     Parry Sound - Muskoka     Haliburton     Renfrew - Pembroke - Barry's Bay     Algonquin     Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet.Wet, windy and wild weather beginning late Monday.---------------------------------------------------------------------==discussion==The remnants of hurricane Sandy will arrive late Monday as a large and powerful post tropical fall storm over Southern Ontario. It is forecast to track from the Atlantic ocean northwest across the mid Atlantic states towards the Lower Great Lakes. The Northeastern United States will take the brunt of the storm however, there is also the potential for significant impacts in Southern and Eastern Ontario. Significant rainfall with strong and gusty winds appear likely late Monday into Tuesday. The storm is expected to weaken later Tuesday and on Halloween, but it will remain cool, damp and may still be somewhat windy for the trick-or-treaters.Areas of wet snow are possible over the Haliburton and Dundalk Highlands Monday night where temperatures may flirt with the freezing mark. However, accumulations do not appear to be significant at this time.A complicating factor is the presence of a stalled front now over Southern Ontario. Moisture-laden post-tropical storms with several rain bands interacting with fronts can produce significant rainfall. Persistent rain is forecast near this front for today and Monday leading up to the arrival of Sandy. It may amount to 10 to 30 mm over this period, especially across Niagara, southcentral Ontario and north to Georgian Bay. An additional 30 to 50 mm is expected with Sandy. Latest indications suggest that locally higher rain amounts of 50 to 75 mm are possible mainly southeast of a line from St ThomasTo Burlington, and perhaps in some areas near the Niagara Escarpment. However the exact location of the heaviest rainfall areas is not yet certain. The forecast track would also produce widespread 50 to 70 km/h strong winds across Southern Ontario beginning late Monday with severe gusts to 100 km/h likely. Gale to storm force winds are expected on theGreat Lakes and St. Lawrence River. The combination of sodden ground, strong winds and some residual leaves on trees will likely lead to areas with power outages due to fallen limbs or downed trees snapping power lines.Total rainfall amounts and strength of the winds will ultimately depend on the exact track of this large fall storm. Rainfall and wind warnings may be issued by Monday morning for parts of Southern andEastern Ontario as this event draws closer and its exact path and intensity become less uncertain. This will likely still be a memorable fall rain and wind storm to deal with.More information can be found in the tropical cyclone statement issued by the Canadian Hurricane Centre of Environment Canada. Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from EnvironmentCanada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.END/OSPC

Be careful everyone. Batten down the hatches. Get clean water. Charge your PSP so you can still play LCS/VCS if the power goes out. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone or anyone's loved one's caught in the way of the storm.

If I was a surfer this would be the best time to go out. Some people are crazy and really go surfing in hurricanes.

Don't really think about your stuff, it's replaceable. Think about yourself, it's irreplaceable.

Get to some high ground, stay in a hotel or with a family member.

Schools cancelled for monday and tuesday. Work cancelled, both parents work is already cancelled and my friends parents work is cancelled. Stores are out of things like food, water, stations are out of gas, and things are getting kida crazy.

I'm as ready as I'll be though. I'm going to take some pictures, and hopefully take a go pro video of me riding my quad and I'll go by all the places I know that get flooded.

I'll post it all here.

I'm in the Bronx. f*ck it. I'll just wait and see.

If you're being told to evacuate by the NYPD or FDNY, then just do it.

They are really saying that? Everyone around me is staying. I'm actually scared now. I do have a fall out shelter tho.

http://gis.nyc.gov/oem/he/index.htm

Type in your address and see if there are any evacuations near you

Thank you but it doesn't work for me. I have no where to go anyway( to be honest I hate leaving people here behind) pretty confused at what to do. I'm actually more concerned for my friend. She's hospitalized upstate and I haven't been able to reach her.

The area around Schoharie was hit worst during Irene last year.

Yea, I just spoke to someone and they said not to worry. It's usually people near the coast that get hit the hardest. I'll try to take some pics near my area too, maybe a video as well.

It's usually dark around this time tho. I'm pretty excited yet worried about the people that are going to get hit.

Just type in your house number, street, and borough.

If it can't be found, type in another house number or store number in your area and that may work.

I am currently situated with relatives in Berlin, NJ, away from the shore. Been hearing from people who decided to stay back in AC and they say the oceans been meeting the boardwalk for a while.. It's only expected to get worse.

Everyone within the storms path, stay safe and good luck. This'll be a big one.

Peace.

Do most people have underground basements in the US? You know ones that are safe from storms? I would think it silly not to have them wherever possible in areas where disasters can happen, that way you can just have a generator going like someone suggested and just play games/watch movies or TV in safety and you don't have to leave your home and worry about looters in the aftermath.

When does thing hit? I think it's time for the media to blow up and then... Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

@finn4life It's not made in paint, it's from NOAA....  suicidal.gif

Really? I thought Mockage drew it on his computer, but thanks for the information. rolleyes.gif

Times Sq. looks like it's going to be safe. I've been watching these little boats in the 79th St Boat Basin they're already rocking hard and there's still over 12 hours til impact

Just checked on my sister in CT and she's now on her way to Australia. Her original flight was out of

NY tonight but when she saw this storm coming she changed it and flew out last night.

Going to walk down to the ocean during high tide and snap some more pics (if I can)

Are there any live feeds so I can see when it hits NYC?

I have this going at the moment: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/10...nyt-webcam.html

Was hoping for a live stream instead.

Is this what you were looking for?

That's brilliant thanks.

Shame about earthcam. I wanted to see if there were still hundreds of people at timesquare or not.

After hearing about the "Frankenstorm", I'm even more satisfied with the UK's sh*tty weather.

Yes. It's raining at the moment. Again.

Good luck to you guys!
