'Frankenstorm' to slam East Coast

Recommended Posts

Ex Hellraiser

All I have to say to this is: Hooray! Snow for Ohio!

I hate the fall leaves, and two days ago it was 85°... In October... The next day it was low 50s. If there is any way to top off the f*cked up year in weather, it will be a foot of snow in October... What could be better?

I am worried about my brother, though, who is on the coast in Southern Maryland...

But if we get a snow day for this, I honestly wouldn't care less...

I'm picking up WCBS 880 AM out of NYC at my house west of Toronto and they just aired an emergency briefing from Michael Bloomberg and they've announced plans to shut down the subways and mass transit systems, even the ferries.

I'm just above the South-Western corner of Pennsylvania and this is going to blow.

Anyone from around here remember that terrible snow storm we had a few years ago? My power was out for a week!

Ah yes. The Blizzard of December 2010. NYC got hammered with record snowfall and in Greater Toronto we got virtually none of it.

Luckily for me I live in down-under. Whoever lives over there? I wish them very luck. This is actually the first time i've ever heard about this terrible "Frankenstorm" coming to the east coast to be honest. confused.gif

Lifted everything off the ground in my shed, and tied down any loose objects in my yard. Everythings all prepped, got 5 gallons of gas, pack of water bottles and got the generator fired up and running again. Just gotta watch, the stations have sold so much gas they are running out. I was lucky and went really early today. Plumbing places such as fergeson where my mom works sold over 100 pumps today and an auto parts store where my brother works sold out of gas cans(over 50). Theres literally lines with lawn chairs at home depot, and lowes of people waiting for the truck to come with more generators and they buy them before they get in the store.

People are getting really panicky and freaked out around here. I'm not too worried, but it does get alittle eery when stations run out of fuel, stores run out of food and water and people are out trying to steal gas cans and generators.

I'm ready for it, BRING IT ON SANDY!

It's going to be a typical Fall day in little ole Connecticut. Grey. Hopefully it's not like last year, when we lost power for 3 days. confused.gif

It's going to be a typical Fall day in little ole Connecticut. Grey.

Plus the storm surge, high winds and flooding. Southern CT and Mass. are expected to get a HUGE storm surge from what I hear. State of emergency declared there as well... batten down the hatches.

Hold on guys and good luck. Looks like it's gonna be a big one.

If the storm shakes your area, give us some updates and maybe some pics from where you're at, if your internet is working.

Here in Massachusetts we are pretty used to this weather lol. The ocean is already a monster, I'll try to take some pictures without getting soaked.

I should be okay, Danbury's not on the coast, we'll probably just have some flooding.

Came across a clip yesterday on weather.com where NYC mayor Bloomberg says there is no plans for evacuation yet, but will see how the weather goes.

Right now he's ordering people to evacuate.

To everyone affected, the best of luck and stay safe!.

Just an announcement guys. According to my father, who works in the Volunteer Fire Dept. here, Sandy's going to be worse than Irene, so prepare, get evrything you need, and stay safe so we can laugh about this while playing GTA V next Spring. biggrin.gif

My grandparents live really close to the Delaware coastline and they've already had to evacuate Rehobeth. I'll be interested to hear if they'll have to do so as well.

But I'm about 150 miles west from the coast in Maryland, so I shouldn't have any issues. I expect to get slammed by the storm, obviously, but it won't be nearly as bad as what the people on the shore will be getting. They said to expect power outages, that's it.

I don't see what all the fuss and panic is about. It's just another Nor' Easter. We get them all the time up here in Nova Scotia and we don't evacuate.

It's really not. Two storms are going to collide, and become a bigger storm. It's supposed to be worse than Hurricane Irene last year, which caused power to be knocked out for a week here in CT.

It was only yesterday that David Attenborough was saying it would take a massive disaster to make the world wake up to climate change.

If you're being told to evacuate by the NYPD or FDNY, then just do it.

I keep seeing everyone saying leave and evacuate... In my mind that is a bad idea. I live in south east Louisiana and never left for a storm yet.

I been threw Katrina and I'm still here. The worst thing about evacuating is you can't return until they allow you to. I mean that can lead to a number of things...

You worrying if your house and property is ok, if people who did stay are messing with your sh*t, etc. I mean I personally don't even see people in New York leaving,

yea its a island but I mean if the storm serge is that bad then slap me silly.

The last hurricane we got was worst then Katrina in my area because the damn thing just stalled over top of us for a day or so, that right their is the worst that can happen.

I mean we had levees braking that never broke and over top in years, I mean since the 1990's! My town it self seen around 100+ winds but the worst we got was 1/2 foot of

water and some wind damage, same as every other storm. Its fun for my self though cause I work with the volunteer fire department and get to roll around during every storm.

Don't get me wrong it sucked sitting the storm out at the station and sand bagging levees at midnight in the pouring rain but storms are just a life style now.

I probably just wrote a bunch of BS but what I'm trying to say is storms aren't anything to panic over, trust me I seen panic down here and that when people make dumb decisions.

Just secure your house, buy a 12 pack of beer and ride that son of a bitch out. For the evacuation though, if you live on the coast line GTFO! Besides that you shouldn't even stress,

its just mother nature being pissed off.

Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac

This is a little bit of damage we seen in my town. Along with this we had a couple trees and power lines down, high water in the streets, and a few trees into homes.

Because its not just another Nor' Easter. Its a hybrid storm, Hurricane Sandy mixing in with cold fronts and sh*t. They say it will be worse than the Perfect Storm in '91 but who knows.

That is why you just sit back, crank the generator up, drink some beer and play video games.

Hell if you die during the storm at least you know you died happy lol. Just hope you didn't die in the middle of the game.

I wish I had a generator haha. Im up in Boston anyways, the bulk of the storm is hitting NYC and New Jersey, more to the south. But the ocean is what is scaring me, the storm surge is supposed to hit during high tide and a full moon.

That is the only bad part about the storm, you will learn that fast down here lol. Winds can get pretty scary but you just have to watch out for the water.

As long as you live more in land their isn't nothing to get your panties in a twist about. Now don't get me wrong were protected by levees and well that is one giant storm

but hell I love to take your place any day and ride that thing out!

Also generators are like guns down here... the day you are born you get one. Trust me when a storm comes threw you will be wishing you had one! Sucks living with out A/C

for a week or so, did that sh*t during Katrina and I will never do it again. Best money you will ever spend, although now we have one that kicks on automatically when the lights

go out and is hooked up to natural gas... love that thing!

Did that once. My mother side of the family live in Grand Isle, LA and well if you don't know where it is, its a island in the gulf of Mexico,

the last storm the fire department and police department was hydro planing on the beach with four wheelers. I all ready seen people surfing during

storms and swimming, I don't suggest doing this but it looks fun as hell lol.

As you can tell this is how wide the island is... and the side with the waves is the coast.. also known as the Gulf of Mexico.

Thats exactly how my town is lol. Its basically a peninsula that jets out into the Atlantic Ocean. Ive seen my fair share of big storms/hurricanes.

Yeah last storm we had there were crazy people surfing. The police waited on the beach and arrested them once they got to shore.
