LotusRIP
So we waited a whole year and a few weeks or so, continuing to check the newswire like they kept suggesting to, and now their only piece of info is referring us to a third party - Game Informer - to learn the very first things about GTA V. It doesn't seem right. I would expect they would tell us about the game themselves, not some magazine.
Adriaan
@LotusRIP Well they did say to keep an eye on the newswire, so be patient. But that said, it is very common for GTA games, Rockstar titles and in general within the industry to have publications experience the game and give their thoughts on it. San Andreas' first word came via Game Informer that was first distributed on the show floor at E3 2004. You have to understand that I imagine the reasoning for choosing Game Informer is to tell a mainstream world about the game when it's distributed to millions of subscribers and who knows how many more copies across thousands of GameStop stores. Many people will rush to these stores this Fall to pick up the big block buster titles in the busiest month for the industry, and while they're there, will see this issue on the shelf. Not everyone keeps an eye on newswire etc. the whole time waiting for new info. Game Informer actually reaches a bigger audience than newswire. But it only makes sense to have info given through previews. Game Informer will have the exclusivity, but you can be sure that more publications from around the world will be writing about it soon after, both in print and online. A lot of those magazines also have digital versions nowadays.

Adriaan
@Satan_ Ever since the GI preview was announced, I speculated that we'd see a Trailer right before the GI preview like they did in 2007 with GTAIV. But this is just speculation.
LotusRIP
@Adriaan Some good points, but still, seems like after a year of silence they should have the balls to speak up themselves... Maybe just a small teaser site outlining the protagonist and silhouette of the map or something. I feel they owe it to the fans who have spent the past 365 days checking the newswire and forums daily... We as real fans would have deserved it. The mainstream audience can wait, we cant ! Adriaan
We're so close now there's no real reason to get upset. I certainly understand the frustration that was caused by them releasing a trailer so far in advance. While I personally view that as something cool by actually giving us a trailer with the announcement so soon, others look at it the other way because they expected info to come out soon thereafter. But once you realize the game wasn't intended for release anytime soon when they did announce it, it only makes sense that they didn't want to start talking about it because they weren't ready yet and instead focused their efforts on creating a game. Making a trailer, demo etc. takes up a lot of time and I personally think it's great they rather spend their time and resources to working on the actual game because at the end this is what is going to matter most. Once the game is out, all of this waiting period doesn't matter anymore. However, that said, I do understand the frustration among a lot of fans because of Trailer 1's early release (meaning, relative to release date). But I suspect things will stop soon once they start showing more on the game, with smaller breaks in between. But I suspect things will stop soon once they start showing more on the game, with smaller breaks in between. Knife said it the best a while back. The reason so many of us were upset is because we all thought that with the announcement of V and the trailer that the marketing would start soon there after. But in fact Rockstar either had no intentions on marketing the game for almost a year or things didnt go as planned development wise. What bothers us is the fact that they couldnt just level with us. Just tell us that the game is far from being ready for release, tell us the trailer was JUST an announcement. Rather than tell us more info in the next few months. This made us all feel very strung along, and its impossible to not feel like they used GTA to help market MP3. I have no problem waiting for the GI issue. But what bothers me is it just doesnt feel right. It doesnt feel right to get a trailer a year ago and then finally some info without another trailer from R*. It would just make so much more sense if we got trailer two a week before the GI cover. So thats my bet. Trailer two will be next week OR very early on the week of the GI cover. Rockstar won't jeopardize their clever marketing plans, giving out info all of a sudden. It wouldnt jeopardize anything... It would actually help build hype for the GI cover, bringing GTA back into the mainstream focus just before the issue drops. It would aslo give us some context for the GI issue as well as raise some other questions.

JaggySnake
I don't know about trailer 2 but I think we'll definitely get something significant before the GI cover. It might get a bit of hype again before it comes out but the fact is that there isn't really a lot of hype around the game at the moment AND not everyone that Rockstar hopes will buy the game will read the magazine! Sure, we're all excited but a lot of people aren't. Rockstar need to take it upon themselves to put something out there to light that fire again. I'm not sure some more screenshots would be enough. We need something like a release date or a trailer to get everyone hyped up before GI. It would get the marketing (assuming they are gonna start it real soon) off with a bang. If they keep quiet, let GI release the magazine and put all that info out then a lot of people aren't gonna hear about what's new. They need to do something BIG and do it before GI is out. Andreas
I certainly understand the frustration that was caused by them releasing a trailer so far in advance. This is what I don't understand. I know that Rockstar did it not only once in the past with announcing a game so early. Why do they want to let people know that a game is in development, a game that won't be released anytime soon? What's the point of it? I think it'd be a bigger explosion to announce a game, release the first trailer short after the announcement, starting the marketing campaign and release the game within 6 months after the announcement. Well, you know what happened with some games that were announced too early e.g. GTA IV, Agent, L.A. Noire, etc. I don't say that I hate it when a game is announced early or something like this but on the other side I understand the people who hate it. I don't care much about the wait as long as I know that the game is coming and that there is progress in development, as confirmed by Rockstar, T2 and the recent GI announcement. That's right as well. Back in summer 2011 I started to worry about the next Grand Theft Auto. Will be there one or not? Will Rockstar start a new franchise instead of making a Grand Theft Auto sequel? One day I came back from school to home and I looked on the internet for GTA V. Suddenly I saw it: GTA V was officially announced! I screamed oudly "Holy f*ck" because I was so excited. 6 days later the first trailer was released and I was excited (and I still am!) as f*ck because the game looked better than I originally imagined. I was and I still am excited because I know it's a another great high-quality game from Rockstar. I know most of the join dates I see now are recent... but does NO ONE remember what it was like before the trailer?? Everyone was going nutty, at each others throats about just the location of the game. Revealing the location alone would've been a huge deal at that point let alone a minute and a half teaser trailer with such diverse scenes. What's that Christmas movie that's always parodied in shows? A Wonderful Life?
Ice1980
THE DECEMBER GI COVER WILL BE REVEALED NOVEMBER 1st. To everyone who doesnt understand what this GI thing is, check Here. And here is a picture of the cover they made for IV, to give you an idea of what it may resemble: They will do something similar to what they did with IV, like 10 pages dedicated to showing off the game. Now, every cover that GI reveals is the first thursday of every month. (November 1st will be the reveal of the December edition of GI, since November 1st is a thursday.) SO now no to the whole point of this topic, Since R* usually tends to release info on their own, Do you think that trailer 2 will reveal most of what GI will tell us they saw in the demo? AND do you think, in your opinion that trailer 2 will release before November 1st? I think it will.. First of all I think YES!!! Nov 1st Trailer #2 launches, and if anybody says otherwise you'll be amazed soon what R* will do, especially now we have GI in December to look forward too. GI is building the best cover issue to date on the most biggest anticipated game of 2013. There into all the juicy details as we speak, playing the full version story mode. And getting a preview of things to come in MP and crews with our influences;) Don't you all remember on July 12th in there A&A, they said, and I quote, "We will try and get some more screens for you soon and then another trailer when we are ready." Then bam! In a weeks time Screenshots!!!! What's next? A Trailer launch people!!! Like they said more screens then a trailer when we are ready. So it's only logical that a trailer is due here shortly, and first it's the cover reveal followed by trailer #2 then GI issue releases! You will all see! From what i've seen in Rockstars past, once the GI comes out they are officially ready to dish out the dirt across the boards. GI will give us everything you need to know about V before you play it they have always done that. They even went as far as to tell us the music that would be in GTA VC. In the GI we WILL get the following: Plot Protagonist New features Inspiration for the game Multiplayer info Size and scale for the game Answer for the silence. Proof of ambitious construction for the game Realistic view of graphics compared to IV Weapons Some vehicles Release date Preview of artwork for the game Possibly box art More than likley a Q&A with one of the Houser's Possible soundtrack preview and inspiration Its funny how exactly one year after announcement the GI gets revealed. Everyone should have saw this coming. After the cover is revealed expect trailer #2 on the same day as, along with the cover reveal on the newswire, or on November 2nd the 1 year anniversary of trailer #1 I dont see how you guys arent cognisent of the fact GTA V's wheels have already began to roll...? They already asked us for suggestions for V's crew system, the game is virtual done if theh are asking us for suggestions for additional content to pack in. Wouldnt be surprised if V goes gold by Thanksgiving at this point lol. But realistically speaking the game could be out by March by now.
