webe123 Posted October 13, 2012 Share Posted October 13, 2012 (edited) Well I HOPE that what was posted earlier in the year about some guy from a gaming magazine saying he was at Rockstar and SAW the PC version being developed beside the xbox and PS3 versions are true! As a PC gamer I am sick and tired of the idiotic waiting game PC gamers are forced to play while console people get their games first! GTA WAS A PC GAME originally! Let's not forget that fact. Another fact I don't think Rockstar will forget was how when they finally came out with a GTA IV PC version six months later, not many people bought it! Most either had consoles or pirated console versions and were simply not interested in playing it on PC. Not to mention the headache GTA IV was for PC gamers and how absolutely horrible it was until the 7th patch! I will not even go into the idiotic hoops PC users had to jump through to play the game! It really gave Rockstar a black eye with PC gamers because it sucked so badly. Hopefully Rockstar has learned their lesson and include PC gamers in same day release sales figures this time around. It SHOULD be that way. Regardless of what fan boys for consoles say. I am also glad that the exclusive content did not pan out for either Microsoft or Sony. Now maybe things can be on a level playing field. At least I hope so! Exclusive content only divides people, it makes hard feelings when there should not be any if they were fair with all platforms. Here's a tip Rockstar, don't treat a PC version like a red headed stepchild this time around and maybe you will be able to actually sell large amounts of PC versions. However, I wholeheartedly think that Rockstar should release the game simultaneously on consoles and PC. I think it would especially be wonderful if it received a variety of PC versions- rather than being locked on GFWL and Windows like GTA IV initially was, it could be released on a variety of content distribution platforms across Windows, OSX and Linux. However, I know that something like this simply isn't possible at this time in gaming history, and we must first push for a single PC version period. And I think that the PC version should be the best it could possibly be. It should NOT be unoptimized, buggy, or provided terrible support like the PC version of GTA IV was. There is no defending Rockstar over this, and I agree with much of the criticism they receive for the entire fiasco. However, at the same time, I do not see reason to permanently discredit Rockstar for this. Yes, they were almost abhorrent at some points with the way they treated PC fans, but they have shown that they moving towards platform equality. Not only have they stated that they will try to move towards better and quicker PC releases, but we've seen it in practice. Regardless of debatable "consolized game mechanics" as previously mentioned in the thread, I'd definitely say that the ports of L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 were more optimized and overall better justices to the platform than other recent Rockstar PC ports. I hope that Rockstar continues and far surpasses this trend with GTA V-it should be released at the same time, and it should push a person's PC as far as it can go in terms of optimization and customized features. I don't think GTA should ever be a "PC" game. I don't think it should ever be an "Xbox" game. I don't think it should ever be a "PS3" game. I think it should be a game, period. The best damn game it can be, on all platforms. Rockstar have definitely segmented communities with their actions. We can all agree with this in some way or another. While I understand that there will always be conflicts between gamers as long as there exist two games on the planet to play, things have gotten worse since Rockstar released the shoddy GTA IV port. In many instances we have lost the joy of being pals and getting along as GTA lovers, as were the days of III, Vice City, and San Andreas. I hope Rockstar will not do this anymore. I want to hold them to high expectations. Just like all developers, they make mistakes. We love them for their games, but we have quirks with them over their practices. I sincerely hope that they will work on improving their practices. If not full equality on the GTA V release, I hope they work towards a future where all gamers receive the best possible treatment in all ways. Not only will this drastically improve our enjoyment of the game on all platforms, but it will increase relations amongst the different platforms. There's enough fighting and injustice in the world, we don't need it in our games and internet forums. Please Rockstar, release GTA V on PC. Release it right this time. I still remember them saying the PC version was made from scratch and then they said was a game ahead in time, a game that only future PC's could max out. When in fact was another port that used to CPU rather then the GPU exactly like consoles. Anyway I really hope they do things right this time and learn with the mistakes from the past. I was asking if his mention of GTA starting on the PC meant that it should not be heavily neglected on PC afterwards (which I agree with), or if it meant that the roles should be switched and that the PC versions of GTA games should receive superior treatment (which I don't agree with). Then again, there's been quite a lot of damage done to the series by Rockstar. They could definitely do some things to help the PC platform "catch up". highnrich Posted October 13, 2012 Share Posted October 13, 2012 (edited) fun thing: the PC option menu of IV had Playstation buttons...they patched it a couple of weeks after release. hell i cant even max it out ~5 years later with my GTX680 SLI and 2700k 4,5 ghz average fps still under 45 xD as i said i will go pirate GTAV first and check out if my pc can handle the port and if its a good port i will buy collectors edition. if its a bad port i go buy one of the console versions. Rockstar now has their own PC specialist programmers which were also used to make MP3 for the PC. This is why the PC version came so soon. I know previous GTA's all came half a year or more later than consoles but I hope this is not te case now with the PC specialist. GTA:IV featured way longer draw distances, MUCH higher res textures, more vehicle density, high resolutions and WAY higher framerates on PC. The console versions had a fog filter to wash out the short draw distance, which will also (according to screens) be present in V. It looks better than nothing but still doesn't really look good. Console is easier to use and devs get more money from games, but that is just because mayority gamers have consoles. I have PC, had it from when I can remember and learn everything by myself and nothing is that hard at it seems at first hand. Just take your time. Consoles are overrated, and of course old. You just can't compare how "old" is PC to consoles. Consoles can't be upgraded, while PC can. And if you buy new PC from Dell, or something like that, which I find useless and stupid, you will probaly get older parts in it than the year you bought it. So can you stop with that fanitizem? And Max Payne 3 wasn't a port. If it was it wouldn't be released in two weeks and/or it wouldn't run/be optimized that great as it was. Look at Alan Wake, it was a port, but they did great job for PC release. But you must know that at first Alan Wake was meant for PC release until Microsoft bought them...
