Those expecting trailer 2

Imagine how Take Two would OWN October in terms of gaming news if they'd had two awesome trailers, one of Bioshock Infinite and one of GTA V!!!

Yep, if they release the Bioshock on the 21st and GTA V at the end of October/early November then they could take away the thunder from games like:

Assassin's Creed III, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Halo 4 and Black Ops II.

The release of both a Bioshock and GTA wouldn't hinder the sales of anything. People already know Bioshock isn't coming out until 2013, so a new trailer shouldn't put people off from buying games releasing for the holiday season. As for GTA V, sure a trailer would be great news, but again, if a new trailer shows a release date, and that date is in 2013, then it's the same situation as Bioshock; people will still buy the anticipated upcoming blockbuster games, and will get GTA in the new year.

But all that is speculation and what-ifs. The general point I'm trying to get across is that simply releasing a trailer for a game that isn't releasing for 6 months, shouldn't hinder the sales of another game that's coming out in ~1 month.

Could R* pull it off to release a trailer for a game that is coming out a month after they release the second trailer?

No. I don't believe that's enough time. Not unless They've had the distribution mapped out a few months before the 2nd trailer came out, thus creating the illusion that everything is happening quickly. But that would mean that retailers would already have intel about when GTA is coming down the pipeline, and if that were the case there would be some legitimate leaks by now. So no. There is no surprise tactic here. R* is just taking their sweet ass time and not sticking to their word (i.e. "in a few months", "in a few weeks or so").

Until something substantial happens via the newswire or a GI exlusive, all we can do is what. The ball is in R*s court and has been for a long f*cking time. However there's less people showing up for the game, I'm afraid.

You have a point there.

What is the significance about November, MosquitoSmasher?

The debut trailer launched in November, didn't it? It doesn't have to be the case, but i can see the second trailer (if we'll have one this year, but if not...goddamn!!!!!) releasing exactly a year after its debut trailer.

You think Rockstar is going for the obvious?

Well, maybe, maybe not. I mean...even though some people say Rockstar never follows a pattern. It's not entirely true. Alot of GTA's have come out in October in the past and that's what i'd call a pattern. And isn't the same the case with some trailers?

Some yes. But we're about half way in october. If they're serious about Grand Theft Auto V than this or next week there has to be an announcement.

I really only opened this thread playing good cop bad cop. It could mean that Take 2 is gonna start marketing they're games heavy now who knows. I would love to see the marketing for Bioshock and GTA V start right about now. I just can't see R* begin to start marketing GTA V next year, that will totally kill it for me.

I would rather call this a coincidence.

And anyway, even if it was a pattern, it s now a 10 years old one. Lot of things have changed in 10 years. It s not because they used to do some things, that they will still do it.

It s like trying to decode what a "few" means, when it s obvious that it s a stylistic device.

I think it would improve the overall mood of the take two conference this month if they were to build hype on 2 different fan bases beforehand.

The 10th anniversary of Vice City, 15th year anniversary of GTA and the financial call at the end of the month are much more significant that a anniversary of a trailer. I'm not saying it can't happen but I am saying that this month is the hot spot for trailer 2 and the full Marketing to kick off. I don't think a year anniversary of a trailer means anything personally.

As for the topic it's very much possible for two trailers to be released at near enough the same time. It won't take any hype away from anything as you can't buy the products yet. However I doubt both games will be released around the same time as each other as that would effect sales.

Our only hope is before(As I assume) or on the anniversary of the GTA V trailer(Grasping at straws) and that's at the start of November. After this has been and gone and we get no info(if that's the case) then we have no idea what's going on or when to expect trailer 2. I would also say in the case that full marketing doesn't start by the start of November then the "before March 31st" release date is thrown out of the window completely. 4 Months marketing? I doubt it.

Alot of GTA's have come out in October in the past and that's what i'd call a pattern.

Which was because before 2010 the fiscal year of TakeTwo ended on October 31st. This was changed in 2010 to March 31st. All GTAs were released in October to give the current and the next fiscal year a great boost. If GTA V will be released in March it'll boost up this current fiscal year and the next fiscal year which will start on April 1st.

what is it with R* when we do get any type of update on the newswire it's been lately at the end of the day?

Trailer 2 will be sometime in Late November, 2 weeks or so after the new Black Ops game has been released and all the buzz around that game has died down somewhat.

The game will be released in May 2013.

Soon we will be getting a few more screenshots to tide us over for the extra month wait.

RDR was announced Feb 09 and the game released May 2010, this was 15 months after the announcement, remember RDR was delayed.

GTA IV first trailer was March 07 with an initial release date of October 07, only 7 months later! It was eventually released in April 08, 11 months after first trailer.

So, GTA V announced November 11, if we go by a similar time frame to RDR and GTA IV, the game should be released between October 12 and February 13, however if it were to be released May 13 that is 18 months after announcement, long time sure but it is a mammoth project almost certainly right?

So I do not think we will be waiting until Summer or Autumn of next year. We will be sat playing GTA V in the Spring biggrin.gif

This is also the reason I think they have held off on showing any more trailers, because they want to make sure the game is ready for the release date as intended and no delays like previous games.

They may even announce an April release date, but I think May will be better to give slightly more room for Bioshock in February. If we wait 17 months I am sure we can wait an extra 3 weeks or so biggrin.gif

Do you have any idea how big T2 are? They can market two games at once you know.

It would be a risk though. In the business work the term is known as cannibalism

We're talking about advertising 2 games side by side, not selling two games right next to each other.

It's not like people who play both will be so transfixed by one trailer that they can't enjoy another. Now people who play both probably can't afford to buy both if they were to release near the same time...but that's a completely different monster. Advertising things like this near each other won't touch the overall profits when this is all done and said.

One trailer won't steal the others thunder IMO. There is no reason they can't both release a trailer this month.

I Shot The Sheriff

Bioshock is the one that should get its trailer cancelled as GTA V is bigger, but I'm pretty sure it won't affect nothing and we'll het a trailer this month.

Trailer 2 will be dec. 4th. Before that, There will be information on a mission where the protag escapes the hospital in a wheelchair. Some screens and features between now and then. Dan Houser will come outta the closet. Conan O'brien dies in a strange way. Massive teeroist attack in a subway in NY. Those are the things I have seen when I licked a frog...on accident.

Is there really a big fanbase for Bioshock? I just never got what was so great about that game, and believe me, I tried.

I don't think bio shock has anything to do with a lack of news. I think the fact that they're developing the "biggest most ambitious game ever" has something to do with the long wait. Development might take a little longer as per that statement from R*. I don't think they can develope a game on the scale they're suggesting in 3 or 4 years. I truly feel like late 2013 or early 2014. I hope I'm wrong though.

I honestly wasn't expecting a trailer until the end of October or end of the Max Payne 3 DLCs.. and I doubt this article changes anything.

Advertising 2 things at once can create a complex in people's minds to "make a decision" between the 2 even when those, of course, aren't even the intentions at all.....I promise I'm right

EDIT: and once they make the choice early on then they will become more fixated on that one game and lose interest in the other.....cannibalism

Going by that line of thinking, they won't release any GTA V info until well after Bioshock's release.

Its not TakeTwo advertising them, its Rockstar and 2K, two completely different publishers. They can do both games at once.

Still in the same market. And TakeTwo wants to maximize that market share

Except Take Two can and does run concurrent marketing campaigns for two different games. Just last this year they were advertising Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops: The Line which only came out a month apart.

And those two are nowhere near as big as gta and bioshock. I have to do case studies on this bull sh*t every other day and I hate it. We go over stuff like this in every single class and my professor, who is a former CEO of a parent company and clearly knows his sh*t, always reminds us that cannibalism is a very common concern amongst leaders of organizations
