cp1dell
So with Rockstar's past few games, I have noticed something. There is always a set of positive characters, a set of negatives characters and most of the time the protagonist is the neutral one, or maybe even a few other characters. So in GTA IV we saw the optimistic characters, like Roman or Brucie. The pessimistic characters, like Dwayne. Then there is Niko, the realist which is somewhat inbetween the two. In RDR we have the Redemption path - for example, John. Then we have the Damnation path, like DeSanta. I'm not too sure about a middle-ground, but feel free to correct me on this. Then lastly in MP3 we have the people who spend their lives trying to build a future, and those who spend it trying to rebuild the past. Max is stuck in between the two. Now, from what we have heard about GTA V focusing on the pursuit of the almighty dollar. From what I can put together, it will probably be something like this. The "Positive" characters will be the rich, while the "Negative" characters will be the poor, possibly petty criminals or the homeless. I'm guessing - but this can vary whether or not there are multiple protagonists - that our guy will be stuck in between the two. Possibly even swaying back and forth between the two groups. If there is a chance that we have multiple protagonists, each could be apart of these groups and display their life and the hardships they face. I don't know, what do you guys think? cp1dell
Yeah, basically. The point is that our protagonist is always torn between the two, and with what GTA V plans to focus on, we might have a tiny idea on what his position will be. I Shot The Sheriff
Could be... but it might as well be the opposite way - rich people are negative because they try to f*ck with you (they've got power), and your friends are in the middle-class and try to help you out. And the story is about trying to build a capital for you and your family while the rich f*cks (possibly someone from the past) try to ruin your life. cp1dell
Exactly. There are a lot of ways to look at this.

I don't know, what do you guys think? You're absolutely right but I'd temper that by asking if what you describe isn't actually the basic schematic for most successful character literature? Good against bad with our hero struggling to make sense of the world in between... GTA is in some pretty good company!
Gtaman_92
I think with gta v it will be in between.
DC93
I'd like it if we had the option of how you go about the story, developing more on the decision-making feature in IV. So you could either be a good guy doing committing crimes because he has no option, or just be a general psycho causing chaos on the streets of LS. In previous GTA's your characters fate and how he went about it was pretty much decided, would be nice if you could shape the way you went down certain paths yourself this time. No two play-through's would be the same.
Cutter De Blanc
In RDR we have the Redemption path - for example, John. Then we have the Damnation path, like DeSanta. I'm not too sure about a middle-ground, but feel free to correct me on this. I think Jack was probably the middle ground regarding that story, since he could end up going either way. I would like to see it if all of the main cast in this game were painted in shades of grey, allowing the player to decide who he thinks is right or wrong on his own. Not having clearly defined "good guys" and "bad guys." Like in GTA IV they had Dimitri, and he was just painted in the evil brush. Evil evil evil, this guy is evil, he betrays his best friend and he kidnaps your lovable cousin, among other atrocities, they shove it down your throat that he's evil. It would be nice if there was a villain with whom you could see their point of view as well. Edited October 9, 2012 by Cutter De Blanc
