Isotope22
I tend to have instances of FPS throttling in certain areas. The FPS drops for a few seconds then returns to normal. I know my laptop is capable of handling a lot more graphically intensive games, so I can't imagine why this several year old game is causing this. I know for certain that my laptop is well cooled. Speedfan reads around mid-60's for the CPU cores and 55-60 on the GPU, both when under load. Specs: GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTA 560m (3GB dedicated graphics memory) All drivers are up to date. CPU: Intel Core i7 - 2670qm (2.2GHz) RAM: 12 GB DDR3 OS: Windows 7 x64 bit In-game Gsettings: Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (60Hz) Texture Quality: High Reflection Resolution: High Water Quality: Very High Shadow Quality: Medium Night Shadows: Off Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x16 View Distance: 80 Detail Distance: 100 Vehicle Density: 100 Definition: On Vsync: Off Any ideas? MrMateczko
Turn down View and Detail Distance to about 30-40. More don't make a difference. Also turn down shadow quality if that doesn't help.

I was trying to find a fix without turning down my settings, but if it doesn't make a noticeable difference, I suppose it's fine. Perhaps GTA IV is just not very well optimized on the PC? Prometheus
How much FPS do you get?
Isotope22
How much FPS do you get? About 50-55 normally, then around 10-15 for a few seconds intermittently.
luceberg
I am surprised the OP can get 50-55fps normally, as the cpu is not all that fast even with turboboost, nor is the graphics card that good. I installed GTA4 on a similarly specced laptop and got about 20-25fps with lower settings. I found turning off turboboost improved it.
