I almost died today

Recommended Posts

Well not really, but could have.

So I was home alone, it was approximately 14:40 on a 30 degree clear sky day, and I was watching the first episode of Season 6 Gossip Girl. My blinds were closed and the sun was shining down from the East facing my window. All of a sudden I see a human shadow go past my window. I'm there mindf*cked for a few seconds thinking it might be my mum until I realized she had already left. The first thing I think of is robbers. You see my house is on a corner block, easy access to the back yard if you jump the fence. It's a bit high but not impossible.

Anyways, I walk down the house towards the front where the laundry is thinking I'll just go outside to see if it actually is my mum. As I start walking, I go back into my room and grab my phone incase I need to call 000 (Australian 911). For some reason I decided to go outside to the front and check that way. As soon as I put my hand on the front door handle, I hear glass break!

This is the real deal. For a few seconds I hesitated whether to go find them but remember they might have a gun/knife/anything that can hurt me and well, I have too much to live for. I press Call on my Galaxy SIII, walk across the street and approach the neighbours house. I ring their doorbell like crazy and then the police answer. I'm explaining my whole situation to the cops while people are inside my house, while the neighbours are beside me. While I'm on the phone, the cops ask me how many people are inside. At that exact moment I think about the getaway car, and the exact cliché location it would be at. I walk down the pathway to look to the side of my house (the side street), and there it is.

The getaway driver is sitting in his 1989 EA Ford Falcon.

As I'm on the phone across the street, staring directly at the getaway driver, another neighbour walking near him starts yelling at hime. Anyways, he realizes he's caught in the act, and immediately starts beeping his horn about 20 times to indicate to his fellow ameture colleagues to get out. Still on the phone to the cops, I give an exact description of the 1989 EA Falcon, registration number MH 088M, and the 3 teenagers jumping over the fence in their gangsta clothes while trying to distinguish their ethnicity.

They get in the car, and the driver floors it towards me. At this moment I know he's trying to run me down, so I wait for him to get as close as he can before I leap for my life. (Still on the phone to the police). He gets close, I jump behind a lamp post, he misses and speeds down the street.

I explain that they are fleeing the scene to the police on the phone and they directed their dispatched car to scan the area for them before they come directly to me.

The other witness, that yelled at the driver before, come to me and told me they were Aboriginal and wearing hoodies. He got a better look of them than I did from across the street.

I go inside, hoping they didn't go in my room, I go straight past the living area trying to find a broken window, and didn't find one. I found my parents room all messed up, it's the only room they went in. I go back and notice the sliding door in the dining room shattered. Blood on the floor. The cops finally arrive after no success of finding them, and tell me they got a report of someone 2 streets away of Aboriginals knocking on their door to see if someone's home so they can probably rob the place, but the person was home so they ran away, and headed for my house.

The cops go to the other witnesses house for info while I go to the police station for a statement.

The forensic investigators are coming tomorrow for clues and blood samples, which might actually be from my dog but just incase I'm going to leave it there, and the house insurance is fixing the glass as I communicate this information to you guys.

sh*t dude, that's crazy. Watching Gossip Girl eh?

I hope the burglars get found and prosecuted. Was there much or anything taken at all from your parent's room? It seems you handled the situation quite well and hopefully goes well with the aftermath. Is your area in Perth normally safe? I don't know much about Perth. I just know a couple shoddy 'burbs in brisbane particularly inner city ones where I'd prefer not to commute/pass through on late night public transport rides home also some in Sydney when I family trips down there like Cabramatta.

Hmmm nice bike

Damn, good thing you're okay! At least they weren't able to make off with much, no electronics or anything that's really valuable or irreplaceable. I know a few months ago I was fearing that this would happen to me, too. There was a rash of burglaries in my area, 9 apartment buildings hit, one neighbor of mine had an attempted break-in and the other neighbor's home was already broken into. Let's hope these guys get caught, you were able to give them a license plate number and good descriptions icon14.gif

Seriously,

Lucky break, good reactions.

With the car's number plates it'll really help, unless it was stolen.

Just a few tips, next time home alone.

- Leave a few lights on in rooms if at night, it'll appear greatly occupied.

- Turn the TV up or on, same as the above, appears occupied.

- Buy some decoy security stickers. Place them one the windows.

I was expecting a milestone, but Jesus Christ!

Good stuff for getting down the car make, numberplate, etc. and hopefully they were stupid enough to use a close friend's car. What am I saying... they broke into a house in the middle of broad-f*cking-daylight, I wouldn't be surprised if they used their parent's car that was probably stolen/bought from Centrelink payments anyway.

Is your neighbourhood notorious at all or close to any dodgy part of Perth?

Solid thinking there, Piperka. icon14.gif

Wow. I hope your sister is OK.

Your neighbour shouting was a f*cking stupid idea. Seriously.

You should have just called the cops and did everything WITHOUT the neighbour knowing, because then the cops would have them there and then, and you most likely would have your cash returned to you.

I guess that's a gamble though, because they could have made off with even more before the cops arrive.

Good job on how you handled it, though. I would have screamed like a pussy and have a heart attack.

This is exactly how my house was robbed a couple of years ago. Smashed the patio doors in when my folks left the house. I was asleep upstairs and didn't even hear the smash. Got woken up when they went to rob my room and they ran for it. Chased them down the stairs while calling the police. Was so happy that they left until I realised they were speeding off in my f*cking car.

Leave the radio on downstairs now while I'm sleeping to ward them off these days.
