And it's gonna sound harsh, but hEy, ya gotta get used to it.” I nodded my head. I didn't care what I had to do at this point. She was gone. What else was there but to do what I had to to survive? Mom would've wanted it. “What's the rule?” I demanded. He stopped walking and smiled down at me. “Be smart. And if you're not, don't get yourself caught,” He murmured. “And if ya don't...” He shruGged and tapped the ashes off the end of his cigarette. “it's your ass on the line...Deal?” I nodded. “Deal.” ~ ~ ~ The lights of the city shone off the razor-sharp blade in his hand. It glinted with a threat that we didn't want to use, but had to all the same. Neither one of us liked having to do this. We never had, and we probably never will. You'd think someone like JAgger would take pride in doing something like this, but I knew him well enough to see that slight wariness–and maybe even guilt–in his otherwise cold eyes. He held the blade, I held the gun, we both held responsibility for what we were doing. This wasn't something we weren't used to. Mugging someone, I mean. It was a regular activity around here. But that didn't mean we had to like it. Most people do the whole mugging thing impulSively, on a whim. But we had to plan it a day ahead usually, as to not get caught. Sometimes it'd be pick-pocketing, or sometimes we'd have to go all out, like we had to that night. We didn't pick a specific person to steal from. Well, except for that one dude who'd given Jagger a hard time about why he couldn't come up with a good reason on why he wasn't in school at that time of day...Man, did he get his. I was staring at the blade in his hands intently before he looked at me funny. “I have a pretty good track record of successfully not stabbing you with things.
