rawrcakes
Retail version. I have gone through a few dozens of thread on different forums looking up this issue. For the longest time i've never been able to change any graphical settings because it says i only have 200mb of the 3012mb of RAM. I have tried several types of combinations in the commandline.txt file, but the problem is, the whole commandline.txt has never worked. Ive tried different screen resolution, which never changed at all. I've added the commands to the shortcut and I've fully updated my game. This is however a completely new pc Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)Processor: Intel® Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHzMemory: 8192MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 8146MB RAMCard name: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series ( HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express to be precise) I am at a complete loss here and have found no other solution as how to fix this. Would anybody know how i can make it work? Sorry that i might look like a leech. Edited October 8, 2012 by rawrcakes
mkey82
Well, check the troubleshooting section in this guide here http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=458859 it really should work. Usually, people either name the file commandline.txt.txt or something's off with the file formatting. If that's the case, just delete the file and create a new one with notepad. Girish
Your game is detecting the 3GB of VRAM though. If the commandline trick doesn't work, make sure your video drivers are updated.

My video drivers are up to date. But i already fixed the issue. Most of my files in my folder will say what type they are (example: setting.cfg) But apparently since its a new pc i have to remove .cfg if its a new file. So when i made a commandline.txt i had to move it to my folders, and then remove the .txt i tried that on my desktop but said it was a invalid file, so i had to remove it once it was in my Grand Theft Auto 4 folders. sorry if its not very clear. But thank you for your time.
Prometheus
I'm not sure what you exactly meant, but did you create a text file named "commandline", with "-norestrictions" command?

But the issue was that it had to be named just "commandline" not "commandline.txt" But since i created it on my desktop, i had to add the .txt, but once i put it in my folder, it registered as commandline.txt.txt. So i had to remove the .txt once i move it into the files. The game works fine now.
