Beez
Maybe R* could put in a "No Animals" cheat in there so the OP and others could explore in peace. Edit: This topic reminded me of one time in RDR, I was up in Tall Trees at night and the bear attacks would. Not. Stop. I decided it was them or me and I was going to skin everyone I killed. I think it stopped at 22 (I'm sure others have done more) and the area was awash in bear carcasses. Like a Jonestown of bears. AuSsIeThUnDeR36
I think there will be some animals out there in the countryside but not hoardes of animals like RDR. In that game I felt like it was a damn petting zoo, animals by the hundreds everywhere. I think GTA V will have less animals due to the population. Cougars and wolves? Forget it, they live far north in the Rockies. Bears? Hmm maybe but I doubt it. An RPG should do the trick
Versous
The animals in the wilderness is what made RDR so great. OP apparently doesn't know what he's talking about. I did a lot of money with hunting in RDR and I think it was a fun thing to do outside playing trough the main story. Would you prefer a "wilderness" without animals? whats the point of that? I made a thread about a zoo in GTA V a long time ago. That would actually be a nice way to introduce animals. Gaunty
I agree that if there is the same abundance of animals in the wilderness, they need to be less aggressive and appear much less frequently. But, let us not forget the animals in the city. Cats, dogs, rats, raccoons, foxes, badgers and birds. Imagine driving around and then having a cat run out in front of your car - on a less-busy road - and being able to mow the bastard down for being so silly or swerving to avoid it and having people gasp as they see such an attempt (probably resulting with them diving for cover as you mount the pavement). Or even just seeing people out walking dogs, chasing off racoons from their trash, petting a cat that's on a wall or even feeding the birds in the park. As long as they don't over-do it with the abundance of 'dangerous' animals, I'll be satisfied. EDIT: And yes, I know the topic clearly states 'wilderness' - but that surely won't be the only place to see animals. Cuzzzin
in real life every animal that sees you doenst attack like in rdr Don't act like a dumb idiot. Every animal does not attack the player in Red Dead Redemption, I don't where you get that from. What game where you playing ? I could not have been RDR, because that simply does not happen. The animals that attack you in RDR are animals that can or will attack humans in real life. Grizzly bears, cougars, wolves, and snakes are the main animals that will definitely attack and kill you in RDR, just only 4 out of 25 animals. All 4 of these animals are potentially very dangerous are capable of attacking and killing humans, and in real life, fatal attacks on humans from them do happen indeed. Not very often of course, and in many cases quite rare, but it does happen, so I don't see what your problem is. You need to understand that RDR is just a game, it is not completely real life. The constant animal attacks just add to the danger, excitement and thrills of the gameplay experience. Wolves, bears, and cougars are way more aggressive in RDR than they are in real life. This isn't to say that they won't attack you, but they're not mindless killing bots that will zero in on anything that looks remotely edible. The other thing to remember is that they tend to stay away from humans (An animal that is more likely to kill them then the other way around). That's why you can go hiking or camping in a forest that has bears, but don't really have to worry about them attacking. I'm fine with the way predatory animals were depicted in RDR for the same reason that I'm okay with the amount of crime that is depicted. It's not realism, but perception of the era. Running into a bear in a GTA game should be such a rare thing that you might as well not have them at all. I'd rather stick to benign animals. The only way predatory animals would work for me is if they had a very specific spawn area.
TellEmRye
I agree that in RDR Tall Trees was a little extreme with the amount of bears that would attack you but I do believe wildlife is a great addition to into a video game, not many developers have dared to attempt this before. Also seeing as we see a dog in the GTAV trailer i'd imagine there will be wild animals too.

StalinBballin
Totally get where OP is coming from. Bears, Wolves, Bobcats, Cougars, Mountain Lions, sh*t got old and actually put me OFF from wanting to explore the environment more. I've still never ventured in the mountains behind Macfarlene Ranch since the first time I did, BECAUSE I died from a Mountain Lion. sh*t gets annoying and frustrating, especially when you can't exactly see them coming from behind you and when you do, it's too late. Have animals in V? Yes. Make them less aggressive towards the player? Yes as well.
Gtaghost22
It wasn't off-putting to me at all in Red Dead Redemption. I'd love to see animals in GTA V's countryside, i couldn't care less about being be attacked by bears/cougars, i'm sure it won't happen as often as it did in RDR, if bears/cougars are actually in the game that is, i don't even think they will be in. Lock n' Stock
RDR was set in the late 18th/ early 19th century. Now I'm no ecologist, but I would imagine numbers of wild countryside animals in the US has dropped severely since then. Besides if R* were aiming for realism you would only get cougars and bears up in the high unpopulated areas, where they're not disturbed by humans and their disturbing technologies... If all else fails, use a rocket launcher. Well said. I can picture myself blowing a wild bear to pieces with an RPG right now, just like in that 1976 movie Grizzly. Game2048
Agreed. BlackNoise
R* just needs to make it more realistic. I love the animals, but their behavior needs to be improved. When I was trying to make money it was great getting 20+ bears spawning and charging at me, but it makes no sense. Every predator shouldn't be extremely aggressive. They need to do their own thing sometimes like hunting, eating and even sleeping, and they should only attack every once in awhile. The wilderness can lose some of it's beauty if it's a constant battle.
RomansMoobs
This thread makes me want to slap everyone in this thread with a f*cking history book. 20th century = 1900's. 19th= 1800's. I swear to f*cking god if I see another person "HURR DURR RDR WAZ 17TH CENTURY" I'm going to come through the computer after your stupid ass. LEARN TO BASIC HISTORY. As for the idea of animals constantly attacking you, it was fun. At the same time it wasn't exactly realistic. Some animals are more territorial than others. A momma bear is going to be more territorial of her cubs. Edited October 9, 2012 by RomansMoobs

Lelouch The Zero
I loved the animals in Redemption. It would stupid not to add them in GTA V. They don't cause any trouble most of the time and when they do you just pull out a gun and shoot it. It makes the game feel more alive. Imagine peds diving out of the way, as you're chased by police... Picture the screenshot with the red car, but with a guy on a horse instead. They need to let us ride on horses. I want donkeys in the game too. They sucked in Redemption because they are too slow but I'd love to just ride a donkey through Los Santos while shooting and blowing up sh*t! Sounds to Saints Rowey for me
JugularXJ220
I agree with OP. I want to see a good variety of animals in V, which fit with the environment. I don't want to be attacked by a grizzly or mountain lion whenever I stop on the highway though. Deep in the woods, or high up a desert canyon ... FINE ... I don't mind OCCASIONALLY being attacked in those places. Animal attacks are really rare in reality. Even the dangerous animals will almost always try to get the hell out of your way rather than fight you ... whereas in RDR every single wolf, cougar, bear, pig sprints after you obsessively until they've caught you and brutally murdered you. This would not work in GTAV at all.

TheQuestfor100Percent
I hope all the animals from RDR return, including some new species. I didn't think they were hard to kill at all, even on Hardcore mode. Anytime I got a bunch of bears spawned around me, it was just a matter of headshotting them with a rifle, done. By the way, Bigfoot was not that hard to kill. Play Undead Nightmare.
