98 in 1
As long as I can steal cars, bang hookers, and pass out from things that would kill any normal human being and wake up at the hospital a few hours later, it's GTA.
AuSsIeThUnDeR36
TBH when I saw the screens of people playing tennis, a guy on a bike, and people sitting by a lake I was like 'Is this like a holiday adventure?' Then I saw the screens of the Infernus, Sanchez racing, a dude parachuting, the fighter jet and a dude shooting at a heli and I said to myself 'Yep, San Andreas of old is back baby'

Nah Tso Gud
I think IV was the experimental project for this gen, just like III was the experimental project for last gen. They were both a little too realistic and limited compared to the others. Also, the latest IV DLC goes back to its roots (enough to not break the atmosphere of IV). Indeed. I love buying DLC to make the game fun. Skip the main game, only buy EFLC = cheaper and "fun." Win/win.
Big_Mitch_Baker
I think IV was a big step back in "GTAness" imo. No more insane stunt bonus, removed a lot of the nice sandbox elements, R* has been more focused on storyline than gameplay and I hope that's something they fix in V. If I wanted storyline I'd read a book.
Racecarlock
I actually like this evolution. Here's why. In GTA III, you could cause chaos. In SA, you could cause chaos, work out, bet on races, gamble at casinos, fly planes, steal jetpacks, hunt UFOS, learn karate, burgle houses, and probably even more than that. In GTA IV, you could cause chaos, go bowling, play air hockey, play darts, go to a cabaret or comedy or strip club, and that was pretty much it. In GTA V, it looks like we'll be able to do every single activity listed from both of those games up there. There's still the chaos and cars element, and since so many people want those fun weapons back, they'll probably come back. It'll be one of the best GTA games of all time. Good story, great detail and graphics, and lots of sh*t to do. The perfect GTA.

DeafMetal
If we're talking proportional quality, by which I mean taking into consideration the technology, the year, and the budget/experience, etc., I'd day San Andreas is a much, much, much better game. If we're not taking anything into consideration, then I'd say IV was slightly better. I still play both.

Death2Drugs
GTA is just evolving. I remember at first I didn't really like IV and thought it was too realistic and not GTAish either, but then I started to like it and I am excited to see how it'll evolve. I'm definitely pumped up for GTA V.
018361
I do feel it has become less GTAish, just because IV lacked the most basic features such as paramedic, cab driver, fire-fighter, ect. We also lost getting perks from completing them such as being fireproof, increased armor, increased health, infinite ammo without having to buy it from the store ( when you achieved 100% game stats. IV made a joke of this perk ) Also the radio stations were crap, they made Lazlo seem like an A-hole, and Niko was the whiniest character ever. thatstupidbug
The fact is, everyone here has HIS vision of what is a proper "GTA-ish" game. to me, a game is a great GTA when it doesn't take itself too seriously. it can have a strong storyline and a it MUST have some "serious" moment, but the whole game must have a "light" factor. GTA IV had a couple of this moments (the phone call when niko is carrying a bomb, or the "gay niko" website, or brucie), but everything is put in a more serious tone. the perfect example of "don't take it too seriously" is in GTA III, "The Exchange": you do an intense mission, you kill a lot of enemy and Catalina, you save Maria and... ... you shoot her because she won't stop talking!!!! Perfect ending, unexpected and fun... I bet that if this mission was in GTA IV with Niko and Kate, the last cut-scene would be a bloody niko holding kate in his hands whispering something about his difficult life in east europe, or the meaning of all the bloody mess made in the last mission. It's not bad per se, I can like it in other media or videogames, but I just want something else in a GTA.
Dandere
The only thing is good in GTA IV are physics and graphics, it has such a bad storyline.
tomi19
It's because of the RAGE engine, It's slugish, unresponsive and slow paced. 100% agree. Running and melee fighting was absolutely awful. It was sluggish and slow. I hated IV in that aspect. I want a more fast and agile running, just like Sleeping Dogs. That, supplemented by the lack of weapons, planes and customization did IV a game with awesome graphics (by that time) but with barely no fun . I hope they fix all this problems in V. Stopped
I think the real problem here is that people are blinded by nostalgia. When I played San Andreas in 2005 when I was 11, it was the coolest, most badass game around. As an 18 year old, going back and playing it again left a sour taste in my mouth, especially after being able to appreciate IV the last 4 years. There's no doubt that 11 year old me would have HATED IV, because of its mature storyline, but 18 year old me has more fun in a realistic playground than an unrealistic one. Like a fine wine, R* gets better with age. They're maturing, and so are we. Catering to the 10 year olds is the wrong direction for R*, and I'm glad they're straying off that path with titles like IV, RDR and Max Payne III. I hope V is following this trend. Kifflom112
Really, people hating on the RAGE engine. Cuz III's "realistic" physics were any better. Truth be told, III had some of the most agitating and unsophisticated physics, I thought "I can't believe I paid 50 bucks for this sh*t" sometimes.
