Should GTAV implement a carry weight system?

  1. 1. Should GTAV implement a carry weight system?

    • Yes, There should be a limit to how much weight you can carry (With no Bags)
      9
    • Yes, But only what you can carry on your person or bags/backpacks/pockets/briefcases/etc
      40
    • No, But bigger guns shouldn't be easily hidden
      38
    • No, I want endless, invisible pockets with no sort of feeling of weight

So.

I was playing Skyrim and doing quest and such and I happened to come upon a dilemma.

But it was one that made sense.

I was carrying too much therefore, I couldn't run. I moved very slowly.

I would love to have this feature in GTAV. Why else would we need duffel bags and car trunks?

If you're carrying large weapons, they should come from trunks and have shoulder straps for when you switch to other weapons.

If you're carrying cash(in large amounts), it should be carried in duffle bags.

Things like grenades and stuff like that could be carried in bags as well. (Kinda like the Dark Knight bank robbery scene) But if you're wearing a jacket then they'll be stashed there. (presumably)

I'm not saying it'll ever get to the point where we're carrying loads of armor but-

I just think it'll add so much detail to the game. Some people don't like realism in GTA but if it makes sense and is done well I don't see why not.

Well, I agree that there should be some kind of inventory to justify duffel bags and car trunks. The thing is, a GTA fan's asshole puckers tighter than a snare drum when you suggest getting rid of the traditional weapon inventory.

Anyways, the best idea I know of would be to have duffel bags, suitcases, backpacks and all that for special purposes only. They could carry drugs, dirty money, explosives, and other equipment. They'd have to be physically carried around or stashed in a vehicle, so whatever is in them would have to be important.

sure why not? i hope they had options for "Hardcore" mode like in Fallout new vegas , so its optional

Oh i'm not sure about this one though and to be honest I really hated that back in my Fallout 3 & Fallout new vegas days it was such a pain to be overencumbered in my opinion. But it does sound very realism actually.

I wouldn't have a problem if they implemented an inventory system like Skyrim's. You'd still be able to use the classic way of switch back and forth between weapons. So anyone who's gonna go "BUT NO! KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS!! I DON'T LIKE CHANGE"...don't worry smile.gif

Plus, Red Dead Redemption had one. So it's not something they're against. It didn't get in the way or bother me while playing.

Off Topic: I want a weapon wheel too! I'm not a fan of the classic switching back/forth between weapons away up in the corner of the screen.

No way. this is Grand Theft Auto. It's supposed to be like the Godfather or Scarface. Not some magical fantasy land like World of Warcraft or Skyrim. Inventories have no place in gritty games like Grand Theft auto. Guns and money is all we should need. No need for sets of armour and magical jewellary or mining equipment.

...I don't even remember RDR having one.

I'll have to check that again.

Actually it's supposed to be like GTA.

Sure they can take parts from other things. But having a new system doesn't make it some fantasy game.

LOL just been playing Skyrim not long ago.

Anyway I like but only if weapons and Money isn't effected. Even in Skyrim money doesn't have weight. But you should be able to carry at least the same type of gun like 2 types of shotguns but they should add on weight.

Stuff like lets say you have a bunch of computers on you they should carry weight. Drugs should have little weight like food did in Skyrim.

I don't see the point. What else would you be carrying besides weapons, your phone and money to have an inventory system that complicates things a little? My point is: Don't try to fix something that isn't broken. See this is where I think people are taking realism way to far.

And in VI if you need to carry something. You actually carried it in you hand.

No. Skyrim is a role-playing game, GTA is not. When I want to play a role-playing game, I will play a role-playing game; when I want to play GTA, I'll play GTA. It's the reason why I don't want cars and guns in Skyrim.

I'm fine with an inventory like Red Dead Redemption's with a cap on certain items, though, but I want to carry as many weapons as I want.

I only want the IV sports bag used for robberies as an accessory. No weight, inventory.

It all depends on the missions/story. Say for example, your character is a drug dealer/smuggler. You may need a duffel bag to transport large quantities of "merchandise" around town to sell. Perhaps your pockets can only carry so much drugs but you need a larger score to get a lot of money so you take a duffel bag along with you. I would say that giving items weight is not a good idea as it creates limitations, however, the more you carry in your duffel bag the more you have to lose if you get killed/busted.

I want GTA V to have a heavy trading system, i.e. you can buy/sell anything to anyone who is willing to buy. I would love little side missions where you deal in drugs or guns, say you get a text message saying somebody is interested in buying a lot of guns -- you could pull a Little Jacob and load your boot (trunk) with all sorts of weaponry to sell off at a price. It would be ridiculous if they added this while also keeping endless pockets.

Null. I cannot decide which would be better if implemented.

IV seemed to be fine with having Niko's underwear strapped to the max; it really didn't affect the gameplay that greatly. However, with all of those weapons at your disposal, I usually found missions and side tasks easy and fairly routine after gaining experience with the game. If I could lure a group of enemies by a nearby vehicle, one well-placed grenade or one quick fired rocket could wipe them all out. I tried to cut back on the use of all of the more powerful weapons, sticking strictly to pistols, SMGs and occasionally grenades and sniper rifles to even out the difficulty. Alas, I still get tempted to whip out my shotgun from my diaper or my assault rifle and start barreling through my targets.

Having a strict weight limit on weapons and items and such I think is a bad idea. Things would become too routine and plus the need for ammo and bullets can become annoying. I really wasn't happy with the weighing system in MP3; there just wasn't enough variety. If Rockstar doesn't include the same weight limit system as IV, then they should include RDR's. RDR, I think, had the perfect blend of realism and variety in its weighing hierarchy. But, either or would be fine for me.

And all of this talk about Skyrim's weight limit shouldn't even be included in this discussion. First off, your character, if hit with enough strength attributes, can carry seven tons of heavy armor and battle raiment, in addition to numerous bows, arrows, swords, maces and hammers; not to mention the seemingly endless counts of miscellaneous items. Skryim needs a larger inventory as you have to adapt to your environment by switching through armor and weapons in battle, as well as carrying quest items and such. For GTA, or any game like GTA for that matter, just needs space for weapons and, if called for, maybe a portable item or two.

Snake Without a Tongue

I hate pulling a bazooka out of my ass, but I have no idea how an inventory could work in GTA.

I Shot The Sheriff

Definitely no way. If GTA IV had any fail, it was the excessive realism. I don't want it even more accentuated in GTA V. I don't want a real life simulator. Endless invisible pockets FTW.

NO! For f*ck's sake no! I like my f*cking magic infinitely deep weapon pants thank you. Screw strategy. If you want to limit your weapons, buy two guns from ammunation or the weapon basements or whatever before you go on a mission. I don't play GTA because it's challenging. I play it to f*ck around and rampage and enjoy a good story on the side. I might not enjoy V so much if I get killed 360 times on the first mission because I don't have magic pants anymore.

The Notorious MOB

GTA wouldn't be GTA without unlimited weapon weights and guns that just appear in the characters hands... it's part of the GTA formula. If they changed that they might aswell overhaul the HUD system aswell. I think there is only so much you can acceptably change about a game before it becomes a different game.

For example I have always been a fan of the Resident Evil series but once the zombies disappeared it stopped truely being Resident Evil for me and became a reimagining which retained only certain elements of the original series.

I voted "No, I want endless, invisible pockets with no sort of feeling of weight" but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want GTA V to be somewhat realistic. I just suspend the disbelief and pretend I had that sniper rifle on my shoulder the whole time.

What does a role-playing game have to do with anything?

GTA: San Andreas was a RPG.

Cars and Guns don't define a genre. Why should we be so closed-minded?

suicidal.gif No it wasn't

Leveling up weapons and skills. Getting fat or getting muscles sounds pretty much like an RPG to me. Not all RPGs are like Final Fantasy Mass Effect especially the original one was a RPG.

Edit lets say it had elements of a RPG.

It's simply not fun to lose a sprinting ability because you're carrying too much. I like my magic pants, thank you. This idea that we should limit weapons and make rocket launchers duffel bag and car trunk exclusive is dumb. Mafia II already has weapon limits like that, and trying to rampage in that game is like trying to do one in the real world. I don't want to feel like rampaging is not a preferable activity because I have to have a duffel for my rocket launcher at all times. One of the primary ingredients of GTA is free roam mayhem, and weapon weight limits like this would interfere with that. So, unless I can drink a potion to magically get stronger so I can carry all my weapons again, this idea sucks.

Just because a game has elements that are common in rpg's does not make it and rpg.

Most games have some sort of skill leveling. (Would you consider Prototype, Assassin's Creed, Just Cause, etc.. to be rpgs?)

Only know AC never played the other two, but no they're not sandbox title though which covers many different geners. So GTA can be like a racing game, Action adventure etc etc at the same time. Unlike AC which focuses more on Adventure.

Not saying it was key like in rpgs to increase your skills, but you still need to increase level to get passed 2 missions in SA. Something that I don't believe happens in the other 3 games you listed.
