Xylophobia
Right guys I never had this problem before until it occurred few days ago, when I cleaned my PC with Auslogics and CCleaner. From then the best browser ever, IE worked only once since today. I've been searching for this problem on Google, but the results I found hasn't solved the problem with this annoying browser so far. I've reseted all the IE settings, disabled the add-ons, uninstalled the lastest IE update and got it working again, for a short time, because now it doesn't work again. The screen is just all white, doesn't show anything, I can wait hours and the browser won't connect at all. I may type in any web address, it's the same result. On the tab, the browser shows "Connecting", while the page stays all white. I clearly can't see what's the problem with it and it's really annoying since I never had this problem again and my other browser, Firefox, works perfectly. I wouldn't care to install another browser, I don't spend any more MB for another browser, when I've got IE and it can work as well. It's not a big deal, I don't use IE, but my parents are using it and I seem not to find a solution to this problem.
Wolf68k
First run a full scan with your anti virus. I you don't have one, then pick one: Avira, Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials Run Spybot http://filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/5168/ and MalwareBytes http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ Let them do a full scan. Do not run them at the same time. With Spybot after it's done I also suggest using it's Immunize feature and letting it do it's thing. Add to that SpywareBlaster http://filehippo.com/download_spywareblaster/ which all it really is is an immunizer as well. After all of that is done run CCleaner again. Make sure you also clean up the registry using CC as well. When CC removes the suggested registry entries it'll ask if you want to make a back up of them, DO IT and keep it some place safe and easy to get to; suggestion My Documents\CCleaner Backups\ Then run ScanDisk have the automatic fix turned on, it'll tell you it has to do it on the next restart, say OK and restart and let it run. ccrogers15
sorry if i sound like an idiot but i dont think anyone uses IE anymore. IE is for noobs taking baby steps in the computer world, until they discover a better browser. Anything is better then the crash infested IE. Finn 7 five 11
Seriously man, STOP USING IE! You are wasting your time man, it is a hunk of junk, download either Google Chrome or Firefox, it is about 10Mb. Internet explorer is slow, clunky, broken and fixing it is a waste of energy. I stopped using internet explorer like 8 years ago and it still sucks.
Remix
sorry if i sound like an idiot but i dont think anyone uses IE anymore. Yeah, no one at all! Only 53% of internet users! The browser is terrible though. Best to update to Chrome of Firefox like finn said.

Girish
sorry if i sound like an idiot but i dont think anyone uses IE anymore. Yeah, no one at all! Only 53% of internet users! That's probably because it's the default browser that comes bundled with Windows which holds majority of the market share when it comes to OS. The same reason why there are 5% Safari users, probably because it comes bundled with Mac. From then the best browser ever, IE... You're joking, right? But yeah, like others, I'd suggest switching to FF or Chrome. And you say you already have FF installed and working correctly? Why not force your parents to give up on IE by just removing it from Programs and Features? There's an option there to turn off certain Windows Features. Uncheck IE and press OK. Anything is better then the crash infested IE. I don't use IE, my parents do and I can't be arsed to install yet another browser on the PC. Wait, you would spend hours and hours trying to fix something broken and probably fail, but for a 1 minute download and installation which will save loads of hassle you can't be arsed? And what do you mean by "Yet another browser", you said you only use IE, so likely you only have IE, and you don't even have to install IE, it's pre-installed. A new browser takes up such little space, if you're so worried delete the windows test songs (there's three or four) and there you go you could install 2 new browsers, and as for your parents, they can keep using IE if they choose, but you don't have to. Download link for Google Chrome from the official site, it's 100% secure. https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/brows...t&utm_medium=ha Download link for Mozilla Firefox from the official site. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ about 3-4 clicks and you have the browser downloaded, and probably 1 or 2 more to have the settings configured, if you "Can't be arsed" well then i guess we "Can't be arsed" to help you and Microsoft "Can't be arsed" to fix their sh*tty ass browser and stop people from converting. Yeah, no one at all! Only 53% of internet users! There is some very conflicting data for that.... http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers Edited October 7, 2012 by finn4life

Verdant
Yeah good points. I used to run on Internet Explorer and it just wasn't right for me. Apart from all the tabs I had because I didn't read my downloads right, like setting the homepage to Babylon or whatever the hell the download offers. I run on Mozilla Firefox and sometimes Chrome. I happen to use Internet Explorer at school and with that program being crap along with sh*tty wireless connection. I prefer anything else over that.. Wolf68k
@Wolf - I have no virus, scanned with Norton few days ago and nothing came as a result as far as I know. You didn't exactly say what all you have and haven't done. The only thing you said was CCleaner which might clean up leftovers that doesn't mean it'll fix what is wrong. And Auslogics is a company that makes a number of products only it's anti-virus could help, maybe it's registry cleaner can help btu about much as CCleaner. However you don't say which product you used. Just because you scanned a few days ago don't mean you couldn't have gotten a virus between then and now. So there is nothing wrong with scanning again. Also Norton will not find everything, hence the reason to scan with Spybot and MalwareBytes. These are just some things to do first. @Everyone else Enough with whether or not IE is a good browser to use or not. No one cares. Focus on the problem and solve that. Switching to another browser when another browser "stops working" isn't a fix, it's a work around. No, I don't use IE because of it's security issues, but I do use IE has a back up to compare any possible issues I have with Firefox. IE9 is far more security, more so if you applied the latest emergency patch that came out recently, than the past versions and easier to use. Try flushing the DNS cache out. If that doesn't solve it, also delete the browsing cache and browsing history (cookies, etc.) Flush DNS 1) Close Internet Explorer. 2) Start menu > type cmd and hit the return key. 3) Type ipconfig /flushdns and hit the return key. 4) Close the command prompt and open up Internet Explorer. Delete Browsing History, Cache and Cookies 1) Click the cog icon (Tools) in Internet Explorer. 2) Safety > Delete browsing history 3) Check the following - Temporary internet files, Cookies and History. 4) Make sure Preserve favorites website data is unchecked. 5) Click Delete and close the browser. 6) Reopen Internet Explorer. As a word of advice... Install Chrome and/or Firefox and you'll be happy. They support a lot more in terms of HTML5 and CSS3 and are better looking and fast. I've forced both of them onto the computers in my house. My parents now use Chrome as a primary browser, rather than bollocks IE.

unc13bud
i disagree with what a lot of people typed here, but do not have time to address it all. i will say i don't like that chrome/dragon has processes running even when chrome/dragon is not open. origina poster, try this: go into your tools/options for internet explorer and disable all of the addons and extensions. exit and reboot
DylRicho
You don't like that the program gives a process to each tab and extension running so if one crashes, the whole program doesn't?
unc13bud
hit ctrl alt delete without chrome or dragon running and check the processes. you will see something stupid like "google updater.exe" apple does the same thing. i hate tsr (terminate stay resident programs) period, no matter if adobe, apple, or google, etc
DylRicho
I see. But they probably do that so you don't have to wait for an update to download before it can be installed. @Xylophobia Are you still having problems?
