Twirl
Hey guys! I downloaded GTA IV yesterday and played it for a few minutes, after noticing this problem i tried to search for a solution but I couldn't find it, that's why I need your help. The thing is that it sometimes runs with no problems, but when i'm in a "crowded" place (like the street or wherever there are lots of models to load), it gets laggy or stucky like if it was running with reaaaaaaally low fps! I find this really strange because my specs surpass the max recommended settings for this game by far(I also have some problems with the light reflection in game) ... I'm posting my specs as well as the results i got with the GTA IV Benchmark app... Benchmark Results Rig Specifications Thank you so much guys! jpm1
your specs are definitly enough to run in very good conditions . so what's wrong i don't know as i'm not you lol . seriously , install patch 1.0.7.0 . check if you don't have malwares/virus . with your rig you should be able to run at 30 fps at medium high easily and you'll probably be able to run it at high in good conditions . hope it's not a pirate version as debating of these is forbidden
mkey82
It looks like you have a very old game version installed, so like jpm1 said, install the updates Patch 7 GFWL update
Twirl
Thank you guys for your responses! I recorded the problem to make it clearer, I also did a benchmark test with fraps and here are the results (The game Is genuine, i downloaded it from steam, but i dont know if I should update to 1.0.7.0 because i've heard that it has compatibility problems with mods as well as severe lag issues): Benchmark with Fraps (Microsoft Excell) Thanks! I've never had a problem like this with a game, i've been playing Crysis, and Crysis 2 in ultra with really high fps... idk what could this be... mkey82
Have you installed mods? Steam by default installs the latest patch.
Twirl
I bought the game through steam, but I installed the backup file a friend of mine gave me (because i usually have internet crashes and i have to restart the download over and over again). I haven't installed any mods yet, the game is practically untouched. Thanks!
mkey82
I hope you understand we can't work with backup copies your friend gave you.
Twirl
Sorry but i dont understand... i mean, steam backups are not illegal copies, if you have Steam installed in your computer just check it for yourself "Steam--backup and restore games--Restore a previous backup". If you bought the game, you can install whichever backup you have... I just did that because my internet connection is super unstable lately. mkey82
Firstly, afaik steam bakup feature is broken. I personally haven't been able to restore any games properly with it, so I just back them up manually. Secondly, in what condition was your friend's game when he backed it up? Was it modified, updated etc? At least perform a file integrity check and let steam fix any possible problems (that is, replace files that need replacing.) jpm1
steam backup option works fine . do you have a player running meanwhile or an internet browser . you should run hijackthis because the problem is weird and check if you don't have any malicious crap . do you have your graphics drivers and direct x libraries up to date
