Soccermad21
Even if your theory is true, which is near-impossible, the game would bbe called Max Payne 4, not Gramd Theft Auto V.
kj2022
Jeez, I hope our protagonist isn't max payne. The dude could be in the middle of a threesome with two bisexual playboy playmate of the year winners and still be all like "God my life sucks". He's like a black hole that no joy can escape from. I wouldn't mind it too much, I mean think about it, after all he's been through it's hard to be happy again. Niko Bellic went through a war where several of his best friends straight up died and even he laughs once in a while. Max Payne seems more like those goth kids from south park that drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. Except replace both with getting drunk. And apparently despite his job being the worst goddamn job on the planet, he never considers maybe retiring from the bodyguard business and getting a job as a wall mart greeter. Or a beer taste tester. He also has real original view points on culture. I mean, wow, rich people are shallow? Yeah, never heard that one before. And by the way, payne, I would personally rather be playing one of them, because at least they seem physically possible of having a good time. You just get drunk and shoot stuff. Real people in the real world lose family all the f*cking time and they don't spend the rest of their god damn lives getting drunk at an apartment. The ones that do and also constantly spew crap about how the world is crap and people are sh*t and stuff are pathetic specimens that no one wants to even be around, let alone pretend to be them. I don't buy for a second that max payne is a real human being, because his character is as deep as the south park goth kids and the goth kids are supposed to be an exaggeration. i'm kinda a goth/emo, drink coffee all day, smoke, and often drink alcohol. you should judge people on how they act, i'm one of the happiest guys in my friendship circle. Max is one hell of a protag, his dark inner monologues are often rather interesting and entertaining, albeit a bit pessimistic. he's been through sh*t, yet he still wants that happy ending. he wouldn't be that good in a GTA game, especially Los Santos, he seemed kinda outta place without being in New York, though a protag similar to him would be a rather good character. and btw, max quits drinking in number 3. My comment -- It looks like you finally exposed the emperor's new clothes, namely, that Max Payne is mediocre, derivative writing. Seems like it would not get graded too well in an English lit noire writing assignment. And furthermore, I think Rockstar has pretty much run it into the ground. A "B-" for effort maybe -- they really tried -- but I have commented elsewhere on the forum that some well produced, well directed, well acted, movies with great set design still have terrible scripts. MP seems like an example in teh video game genre.

GreatestEver23
Really? I know everything seems possible at this point but they're not going to have Max as the protagonist on GTA. They want Max Payne series to keep its own identity, as well as GTA series, they're not going to mix the two.
Freezer89
Yes, you are right, this is a silly theory.. no, it's not even worth to be called a theory. Why on earth and heavens would Max Payne be the protagonist in GTA V? I rather believe in the one where it will be the protagonist of Manhunt. AuSsIeThUnDeR36
It can't be Max Payne look at the nose. The balcony gent has a drooping tip whereas Max's is more pointed. Also the reason we have Max Payne 3 is because that is one game, GTA V will be a totally different game. They won't be related except for the fact that both games are made by Rockstar Games. Max Payne won't be in GTA V ffs

Colonel_Buttfuck
There are certain similarities yes, but Max Payne has an entire series of his own, and bullet-time + GTA just wouldn't work. It would feel strange to say the least.
Kipsta
I see what you mean, I think the main similarity between the balcony guy in the trailer and max Payne is they're age. However, the balcony guy is very reminiscent of Tommy Vercetti to me, not necessarily his looks, but attitude and personality as well. ( I'm not sayin it is tommy, just saying it reminds me of him)
grope_4_that_date
People seem to be in agreement with the similarity of the two characters, but in no way can I take this thread seriously. The OP is clearly stating his belief that the main character of GTAV is Max Payne, from the Max Payne franchise. Are you serious? He quotes, " I know it's unlike R* to do this...but there is always a chance." Chance? No way in hell would Rockstar ever do this. The OP is a f*cking idiot. However... Ignoring this presentation of a laughable theory - the OP has created an original and new analysis for GTAV's first trailer. I think his theory is the beginning foundation for other ideas. What if Ned Luke and Max Payne were related, like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction? What if they were alien species from another planet, brought to Los Santos, and could morph into any object they perceive. Maybe there's a connection between all the Epsilon info, Max Payne 3, and the main character of GTAV? There's always a chance. No matter how small it is. It exists. Great contribution, OP
herounderfireza
You know, at this point I'll believe anything..The protagonist could be an elephant and I'd believe it now. It would make a bit of sense, "Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather..". Perhaps after he left Brazil he went back to Jersey, later realizing he needed to escape to another warm climate area, who knows? He wanted to get out of the law enforcement business maybe, and move to Los Santos to escape? But then we have that whole argument that it's set in two different canons, hmm.. Alright theory, I suppose. THIS RIGHT HERE PEOPLE. Also, I believe they both sound similar, like DragonJack said. Anyways, here's basically more to my theory. So, basically, Max Payne was tired of his lifestyle, and wanted a change. Move somewhere nice, and go to stay. So he moved to Los Santos. After all, if you've played any Max Payne games, you know he's had a rough life, he moved there looking for change, but didn't find much of it. Still though, I'm most likely wrong, but you never know. If you actually look hard enough, you can see many similarities between the two, and you realize it could be the same person. The thing about it is, R* would never think that we would put that together, so it just leaves more mystery to the game. All in all, I think I have a decent theory. Similarities ; 1. Max was looking for a new lifestyle, because who would honestly want his? The guy in the trailer said he moved there to get away from things. 2. They both look very similar, and appear to be older than most of the GTA protagonists ( Only makes since because time passed ) 3. They both sound very similar to me, if you can actually find some decent footage of Max Payne talking (From MP3), and compare it to the trailer, you'll notice they sound very similar. They both have the same sort of tone to their voice, mildly raspy, slight NY accent. 4. More to come, after I do some more reviewing. Why would they use the same type of story for 2 completely different games? Why don't they just name it MP4. I'm 100% sure Rockstar won't delve that low to create a Max Payne story within GTA V. They like being original. There might be some similarities but I doubt that guy is Max Payne, and I can guarantee you that the storyline will be somewhat/completely different than that of MP3. Max Payne 3 graphics are clearly better but that's to be expected when Max Payne isn't a sandbox game. With that said I hope in game GTA V looks just as good as Max Payne 3. Not just the graphics but the detail also. In answer to this topic though there is Zero chance that Ned Luke guy is Max Payne. If you need to ask why go play Max Payne 3. How can you compare a game that is already out and can play its entirety to a game where all we have a is a minute long trailer and a couple of screenshots that will probably look a lot better in actual gameplay (just like IV's gfx in screens didn't look as good as in the finished game)

As I said before I hope GTA V has the same level of detail and graphics but with it been a sandbox game and from the very little we have seen I don't expect it to. 12 screen shots and a small trailer isn't much to go on but it's enough to make this observation. Obviously things could change but it's conmen sense that it's harder to make things more detailed and have better graphics when on a larger scale such as GTA. BlackNoise
They don't look alike in anyway. When you're comparing two people like that, it's about features. Compare their noses, eyes, lips, ears, chins, hairline, and overall head shape etc. Nothing matches up.
