xTwoChins
Okay, so I've been looking over some GTA 5 screenshots, and watching the trailer a few times, and I noticed something. The male in the trailer who is talking looks A LOT like Max Payne. So what if he's the protagonist? It's a stupid idea, I know, and I'm probably going to get laughed at, and get hate. But just LOOK at the pictures closely. Tell me they don't look a like at all? See, I know it's unlike R* to do this, and I'm most likely wrong, but there is always a chance. Here is a picture of the man from the trailer, and Max Payne, in a similar pose. Now I know they don't look EXACTLY alike, but for the most part, they do. Now this is just a theory of what I've noticed within both the games. It's very unlikely that this is true, but you never know, anything goes. Royal55
You know, at this point I'll believe anything.. The protagonist could be an elephant and I'd believe it now. It would make a bit of sense, "Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather..". Perhaps after he left Brazil he went back to Jersey, later realizing he needed to escape to another warm climate area, who knows? He wanted to get out of the law enforcement business maybe, and move to Los Santos to escape? But then we have that whole argument that it's set in two different canons, hmm.. Alright theory, I suppose.

THIS RIGHT HERE PEOPLE. Also, I believe they both sound similar, like DragonJack said. Anyways, here's basically more to my theory. So, basically, Max Payne was tired of his lifestyle, and wanted a change. Move somewhere nice, and go to stay. So he moved to Los Santos. After all, if you've played any Max Payne games, you know he's had a rough life, he moved there looking for change, but didn't find much of it. Still though, I'm most likely wrong, but you never know. If you actually look hard enough, you can see many similarities between the two, and you realize it could be the same person. The thing about it is, R* would never think that we would put that together, so it just leaves more mystery to the game. All in all, I think I have a decent theory. Similarities ; 1. Max was looking for a new lifestyle, because who would honestly want his? The guy in the trailer said he moved there to get away from things. 2. They both look very similar, and appear to be older than most of the GTA protagonists ( Only makes since because time passed ) 3. They both sound very similar to me, if you can actually find some decent footage of Max Payne talking (From MP3), and compare it to the trailer, you'll notice they sound very similar. They both have the same sort of tone to their voice, mildly raspy, slight NY accent. 4. More to come, after I do some more reviewing. xTwoChins
We have officially hit rock bottom. Haha, I don't see what you mean by this, considering I was just looking for possibilities, considering this is the first time I've looked for GTAV news since the last set of screenshots were released. I honestly don't care what they do, because I know it will be a great game.
GR7
You might be onto something. I had a theory that both characters were meant to be similar and different at the same time. One is an ageing cop who moved somewhere sunny to start a new life and another is an ageing criminal who also moved somewhere sunny to start a new life. At some point both of them end up reliving the life they were trying to move away from and even though Max complained and the man in GTAV will most likely complain about things not working out it's secretly all they live for and the only thing they're really good at. I think the fact that both games feature older protagonists also symbolises how both franchises have grown over the last 10 years since both GTAIII and MP1 came out in 2001. Its impossible and your not " most likely wrong" you are absolutely wrong my dude I honestly don't find it impossible, just unlikely. I mean, R* could do whatever, so it isn't impossible. It's just not likely. The only way for it to be truly impossible, is if the MP series didn't exist.

Ned luke's voice sounded like "Max Payne" For some reason and i'm being honest as well. really ? ned luke's voice sounds like there's a bit of italian accent there, i couldnt find the similiarities between their voices. But in terms of appearance, they do look alike, though the balcony guy hair looks different than max's. Well if the protagonist turns out to be in the same age as max payne, i wouldn't mind lol

saintsrow
Way back in the early days of this info vacuum, enhanced by the misery of being Rockrolled by the MP3 publicity onslaught, I proposed some witty and plausible ways that Max could be the protag. I can't easily find the exact posts due to insufficiencies in the forum search engine. It would take all night, and I don't have all night. EDIT: I found one: London Olypmics ad for GTAV Given the superficial physical / vocal similarities mentioned, it was fun to make a joke of that possibility (of Max being the protag), because the joke was so mean-spirited and was like twisting the knife to add to our agony. That is our only solace at this point, to sarcastically make ourselves suffer before Rockstar does..... Jeez, I hope our protagonist isn't max payne. The dude could be in the middle of a threesome with two bisexual playboy playmate of the year winners and still be all like "God my life sucks". He's like a black hole that no joy can escape from. I wouldn't mind it too much, I mean think about it, after all he's been through it's hard to be happy again. When Max walked away along the beach at the end of MP3, after hearing on the TV news about some sense of closure and justice that he had enabled, it looked to me like a ray of sunshine for him, a tiny-tiniest bit of a smile, like maybe he could go on from there with a better outlook on life. If they make MP4, I hope he will be happier and will kick @ss because it really needs to be kicked, and not because he ends up in another hellhole at the end of his bleak tunnel. Niko Bellic went through a war where several of his best friends straight up died and even he laughs once in a while. Max Payne seems more like those goth kids from south park that drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. Except replace both with getting drunk. And apparently despite his job being the worst goddamn job on the planet, he never considers maybe retiring from the bodyguard business and getting a job as a wall mart greeter. Or a beer taste tester. He also has real original view points on culture. I mean, wow, rich people are shallow? Yeah, never heard that one before. And by the way, payne, I would personally rather be playing one of them, because at least they seem physically possible of having a good time. You just get drunk and shoot stuff. Real people in the real world lose family all the f*cking time and they don't spend the rest of their god damn lives getting drunk at an apartment. The ones that do and also constantly spew crap about how the world is crap and people are sh*t and stuff are pathetic specimens that no one wants to even be around, let alone pretend to be them. I don't buy for a second that max payne is a real human being, because his character is as deep as the south park goth kids and the goth kids are supposed to be an exaggeration. KrazzyDJ
At this point, we could probably relate the main character to a host of other real life or video game characters. For example, the image of this character also resembles that of Ray Liotta who was the main protagonist of Grand Theft Auto Vice City. So, its all speculation at this point. Its highly doubtful however that Rockstar would use the likeness of one lead character in the lead character of another game when both Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto have such a large following as franchises. Still, nice find though !!!

All I read was a whole bunch of 'derp'. Max Payne isn't a real human being, he is a virtual fictional character of a fictional neo-noir story. Your whole post right there was more depressing and bitchy than anything that has ever come out of Max Payne's mouth. Grow a pair. And obviously the protag for V will be Max Payne
