visivoo
Hi to all, This could be my last attempt before giving up on the idea. Sorry if the answers are out there, but I have seriously tried to find them. New to the PS3 and sad to see so many issues with online play, but GTA 4 has to be the worst. When I join free mode, I can last anywhere between 2- 45 mins (usually under 15) before all players in the game suddenly leave. I think I have gathered that it's me that is being kicked, not them. The network test on the PSN seems fine, but for extra measure, I got my ethernet cable out and made it wired instead of wireless, and I forwarded the ports recommended for this game. I still have this problem and it's really sad because the game is great fun while it lasts. I can be laughing my arse off, then to be laughing on my own when I see maybe 8 players all go at the same time leaving me on my own in liberty city. I have played quakelive for years on the PC, and games like wipeout and fear seem to work online with the PS3. What the f### is going on with this? 4 years this game has been out, so I can only assume my connection isn't good enough, which is a first. Please help me guys. Want to persuade a friend to buy this game, but with these probs it won't be worth it.
mkey82
GTAIV online can be problematic at times. These issues you're experiencing may be only temporary.
visivoo
I hope so, but Im new to this game so cannot compare. Just thought 4 years down the line it would be problem free. Thanks for the reply.
RaffLicksToads
It depends on your connection with the other players, I got good connection but at times the same things happen (not since my IP change) its the general connection of all the players in the game. It happens to everyone from time to time but if its constant reboot your router and try again
visivoo
Thanks for the reply, a relief to see you guys here to help. I live in the UK, but there seems to be no way of connecting locally, its a bit of a lottery where you end up. It's very consistent as its spoiling every session I try to have. I will try resetting my O2 box, and see what happens. P.S. Got my sony headset arriving tomorrow, is chat working well in the game?
RaffLicksToads
Yeah, I suppose you're right with the lottery thing. I'm an xbox player but we get this problem too XD. Game chat works well in general on xbox should be the same on PS3
visivoo
Reset the modem/router, lost my old quakelive ports and the recent gta4 ports i put in. With Upnp enabled it shouldnt matter though. Now for the test. Will likely report back in an hour saying Ive still got the problem, but we'll see. Cheers all.
visivoo
Well, not the result I totally expected. I now have a message saying the connection has been lost to one or more players, but after several re-tries it seems to stay connected for a good amount of time, so I'm fairly satisfied now. I do have more problems joining to sessions with 4 or more players. I put back the port fowarding manually, but im not sure that made much difference. O2 do recommend resetting it in case of disconnects during games, so worth a try for those who have probs. I guess I now join in on the norm and experience slight issues like everyone.
