How many months before GTA IV did GI do a cover?

I know GTA IV was delayed and that may make this harder to figure out...But how many months before IV did GI do a cover story for the game?

With every passing month that we don't see a V cover it makes me think a May 2013 release date is more likely than a March 2013 release date.

Anybody have any input?

After the debut trailer. May Issue (reveal was in beginning of April)

Since the May issue comes out in April, then it was within a couple of weeks the debut trailer, which itself had a month-long countdown.

I edited my post.. reveal was still in March.

Anyway, according to that "logic" GTA V will be released (if the cover is in december issue) in January 2014.

One day(!) after the debut trailer. 30th March 2007.

http://www.gta4.net/news/3847/first-gta-iv...view-announced/

So.. 13 months before release (or 6 months after original date).

Thanks!

And if i'm correct the game dropped in April 2008.

It was originally targeted for October 2007 I believe.

So that's a 5 month window orginally intended. Could mean we get V 5 months after the release of the GI cover.

So say we get a December cover we could see the game May 2013.

Each game is different so we can't really use the time frames of past as a definitive guide on GTAV. I think their different approach this time round so far should be an indication that things will probably not go exactly as it did for GTAIV.

Question is, what was Xbox World talking about when they said they'll have a GTAV preview in this month's issue? We'll have to wait and see... but I think they'll get a lot of hate if it's nothing new.

Why do you think that such a pattern exists and cover stories have to be revealed within a specified timeframe before the game itself is being released. They could do a reveal for a game which will be released in 3 months.. or in 2 years.

I looked at the past releases of Rockstar Games and the timeframes when Game Informer had cover-stories of these games. If you only want to see a summarize then look at the last two lines.

GTA IV was announced on May 9th 2006 for a release in October 2007. The game had a GI cover-sory in May 2007. On August 2nd 2007 TakeTwo decreased their expectations due GTA IV's delay to early 2008. On January 24th (my birthsday, lol) the new release date of GTA IV was announced for April 29th 2008.

Red Dead Redemption was announced on February 3rd 2009 for a release in Q4 2009. After a certain ammount of the time release date changed to November 10th 2009. The game had no GI cover-story. The game was delayed to April 30th 2010 and then it was delayed again to May 21st 2010.

Max Payne 3 was announced on March 20th 2009 and the game was aimed for a release in winter (November) 2009. The game had a GI cover-story in July 2009. The game was delayed years by years. In September 2011 Rockstar announced the release date for March 2012 but it was delayed again to May 2012.

Summarize: GTA IV had a GI cover 5 months before the original release date, Red Dead Redemption had no GI cover-story and Max Payne 3 had a GI cover-story about 4 months before the original release date.

My conclusion: It seems to me unlikely that GTA V will have a cover-story from Game Informer. I don't expect anything from them anymore and no, I'm not butthurt. Game Informer won't make a cover of a game that is about to be released. For this, the ammount of the info is too high. At least that's my opinion.

Definitely not,the GTA V cover will appear eventually, that´s for sure.

When? Rockstar decides it.That´s all.

Yup, you are right, i think also V will never be on that cover. But what seems to me is that with this game R* isn't following any kind of "line", like they did with the other games. "New bold direction" they said, i think they won't change just the gameplay, but also marketing strategy and all the other things connected with it.

I can't explain very well, the thing i wanna say is this game won't be like the others, all the statistics and what R* did with the previous games will NOT be repeated.

GTA V will be THE game, with its own marketing and its own time to be shown.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Game Informer don't have a special contract with Rockstar Games or anything like this. The magazine that pays Rockstar the most money, gets the first preview of the game. The last time Rockstar has given info for a preview to Game Informer was the time when Max Payne 3 had a cover-story in July 2009. Sure, L.A. Noire had one too in March 2010 but the game was mainly developed by Team Bondi so they could have some control about the info-policy as well and not Rockstar alone. At this point it's just speculation what exactly happened behind the development and the mass-advertising of L.A. Noire. Anyway like I said before Game Informer doesn't have a special contract with Rockstar.

uJhatafart00: Yeah, I agree with you.

There gets to be a point in which the amount of hype will peak. It's not a continuous event. IMO, that peak has been reached and is now fallen back down. The only people talking about GTAV are people on the fan forums. The rest of the gaming world has moved on. R* has taken too long to materialize the hype machine they've built, and are seeing the heat generated by it. If there really is nothing wrong with the development cycle and everything is going according to plan, then they are simply just idiots for releasing a trailer so early.

There will be a cover for GTA V later. Gameinformer confirmed it, but we don't know when.

My hunch is no GI cover for GTA V. I don't think Rockstar really benefits from them. Each one from GTA IV on has proved to be a premature, false start to launching the game. It must be an enormous distraction from making the game to have to decide what to show GI and what to say, and the games are clearly in an uncertain state of development at the time or else how did GTA IV, LAN, and MP3 all experience major delays after their cover stories ran? What's the point of suffering this work disruption when the timing has never worked out right to make it fully worthwhile? Did Red Dead Redemption suffer for not having a cover story? It doesn't seem so.
