I want to create an Island like Bohan, to make liberty-city larger, maybe add a airport, so i need to know and learn how to create an island, what program should i use, or make a new map.

You should get a modelling program if you don't already have one.

I recommend 3ds max 2012 since that version works well with GIMS, which you would need to export your map to GTA IV.

About GIMS, go to the tools section of this forum's mod showroom and download from the header post. Make your map in 3ds max, then when it comes time to export to GTA IV, follow tutorials made online. There is one by stilldre that people tend to use, there is also another one by GTARandom which I used to use in the past.

After exporting all your necessary map files use Open IV to export the GIMS files to GTA IV.

Download Open IV from the tools section of the mod showroom as well.

for begginers, use cityscape 1.8 autodesk promo to be able to export in FBX format (supported in 3dsmax)

cityscape is a procedural city creating. very easy and very fast.

i have few questions myself :

- does cityscape needs texturing knowledge

- is it free and where can we download it

- is it better for a newbie to start with cityscape or cryengine

- will any project require to be owner of a 3DS max copy

the procedural objects in cityscape already have mapping, but you can change tiling a little and other settings (textures related)

- is it free and where can we download it

it is free only the promo version (commercial version is not available any more). you can download it here:http://www.filestube.com/3DJuL7RndVDbS2RS9...desk-Promo.html

- is it better for a newbie to start with cityscape or cryengine

cityscape is a lot of more easier than cryengine so the newbies should start with cutyspace ( it depends in the modding knowledge)

- will any project require to be owner of a 3DS max copy

absolutely, if you want to put it into the game, you must own a max copy.

ok but you're talking of converting here right . if i do only one map i believe one doesn't do new maps each month , an evaluation copy of 3DS max should be enough ..??

thanks for the answers smile.gif

if you need 3DS max for creating a map , i mean what's the point of having cityscape beside . cityscape should be enough , shouldn't it , and using 3DS max for conversion only . man you know my point of view about this , i won't purchase a 4000E thing for just one map turn.gif

goof for you, if you make only one map, download trial one then. but i use it everyday, thats why i bought it.

3dsmax is used to export models in gta iv format to create maps. cityscape can only export the whole map (separated by objects depending of the type and all that stuff) in FBX format, supported in 3dsmax. as you can imagine FBX is not such a format for gtaiv.

@Manroopsm

If you can't get Cityscape installed you are in trouble because from what I know, you are planning to use it to create your map. Download all parts and if they have instructions, follow it. It should work out fine. smile.gif

@JPM1

If you get evaluation copy, you have 30 day limit. That means if you run into problems while exporting, it will eat up your days. (Including the waiting time to receive a response from members here on how to fix your problem.) many problems can occur ranging from export errors, to GIMS not running correctly either. You need a Max 2012 trial if you want to avoid the GIMS not running problem but Autodesk do not provide it on their website anymore. You will have to find it elsewhere.

edit 2 : dl was corrupted . download it here

edit 3 : dl wasn't corrupted CS needs to be installed in C:\ root not program files

if i want to export a map using CS , do i have to export it textured or to texture it in max/gims . dre yt

shows an imported map in max non-textured he textures it later . i have another question , how do you start with CS how do you set the background template to avoid to exceed IV map limits

i have a question . somebody has a tip to know the map we're doing will have correct scale once imported in Max . how one can be sure the map will have correct size and will not exceed map 6000x6000 limits . i asked dre and he told me to use roads or a car but i would like to know if there isn't a simpler way . thanks a lot .

i'm afraid there is no more ways to do that

the first time i did it, was comparing a wpl car and a niko ped

check this guys . it appeared weird to me that it wasn't possible in such program to insert a background template

now we just need to find what these 6000x6000 are exactly , and map scaling will be very easy wink.gif

6000X6000 meters.

Every time I extrude in 3ds max by 1 or move by 1 units, it is equivalent to 1 meter in-game. Besides, the height of Rotterdam tower can prove this. Its height in the viewport after import in the z-axis is exactly is height provided.

i don't think there are meters but more likely miles . i did the run from one part of the map to another with the helo and i got 6.12 miles . i think 6000 means 6,0 miles . i also made few tests in both CS and max and i discovered that a meter in CS corresponds approximatively to 3.93 m in max . if you have a 100x100 m map in CS you 'll get a 393x393 m map in max . i measured basing myself on a Niko ped assuming he is approx 1.76/1.77 m height . the workspace in CS canno't exceed 1.6x1.6 km so now i'm trying to find a tip to do maps using a background image

@ aacclapd : search for overlay thing wink.gif

because the company doesn't exist anymore , it has been purchased by Autodesk . that CS version is not a standalone it was given as promotial product with a version of Max if i followed well . so install don't register and you're done smile.gif
