Sivis is gonna lock this the second he sees it. But you're comparing apples and oranges.. each one has its own operational objectives and specialties.

SAS the original special forces and the highest regarded SF in the world. The SEALs took down Bin Laden (which is a load of bullsh*t no offence, they killed him but they had to dump the body in the ocean with no photos or evidence of his death) which was an accomplishment (if it happened) but don't forget all special forces originate from SAS. They all train with the SAS. They all do the same thing but the SAS are the big boys of the SF world.

No offence in anyway, my opinion.

Navy SEALs were never suppose to be even identified as the killers and the kill wasn't event suppose to be announced for a few days later either. Their is alot of BS going around that he is dead or not. Hell no one knows if he is or not, besides our government and those elite operators. Navy SEALs did many great things in history for their country along with every other soldier who ever served. If people are just coming out of the wood works supporting the Navy SEALs because the killing of Bin Laden then in my mind they aren't real supporters or patriotic Americans. Then most people just support Team 6, hell most people only know of this team because of the killing.

I personally believe Navy SEALs have a higher advantage because of our military's technology and training. If you watch some of the videos on the internet where British soldiers are invited to train in the United States with our troops they are amazed by our training facilities and equipment. Now one thing to take into consideration from what I was told SEALs are special operations NOT special forces. Their are many special operations units in the United States Military but only one special forces witch are the Army Green Beret. I'm standing with my country though and going with the Navy SEALs.

seriously why is this even a debate?

they probably have the same skill, equipment and training, the only deference is the USA may have more men because they have a population 6x the size of the UK

at the end of the day we are both allies and we want people overseas to be safe. now sit back and watch this video....

The old SAS vs American SF debate, oh boy.

So all Special Forces originated from SAS? Please enlighten me some more on that subject. Sure, they work hand in hand in overseas operations, because we're allies and joint ops, but I don't see SAS coming to BUD/S or S.E.R.E. training and giving instructions, nor have I ever seen an operator from SAS in other SEAL training operations or anything referring to SAS. Nor have I ever seen anything relating to SAS in MARSOC training facilities.

SEALs originated from beach swimmers that planted bombs, disarmed and even removed enemy traps, explosives and other debris that would possibly cripple allied advances onto shore. Then they developed into an SOG over the years, not because of the SAS.

Green Berets, again, over the years developed into an SOG, not because of the SAS.

MFR (Marine Force Recon), ditto as the others. I had the privilege of serving amongst MFR and operating with them. Not once have I even heard a term being used or referred to by SAS. Same goes for our other Forces. Each country has it's own "Special Forces" and it's not because of the next country or SAS, but because each country needs and has it's own elite team of their best fit men. A SF operator doesn't just have to be fit, but mentally prepared and sharp. SAS is a big role because they are a big SOG such as Navy SEALs. So they get alot of merit and conversations just like our SF, due to their size, history and known-operations.

Most SOG's around the world share the same tactics and training in alot of aspects, thus everyone thinks that some groups bit off of the other and so on. But we probably all think our country's SF are better than the next. I'd like to give some credit to JTF2 (Canadian) as well, those guys are some hardcore operators as well and can keep up with the best of them. Though I'm not sure if they're still in use today, as I've heard rumors of them being shut down, so I'm not sure on that note, but they are some of the best counter-terrorism operators out there.

From my experience, my knowledge and opinion, I think Navy SEALs would be able to carry out a more proficient, successful and better fight than that of the SAS and not because we're American, but like Redneck noted, because of our technology and our advancements in warfare. The SAS and SEALs both have had their great moments and bad moments. Some lives are lost, some by mere accidents. I don't think there should be a debate, because during Joint Operations, those two hooked together would be unstoppable.

Well, let's go through the big ones:

1. War for Independence--French, Dutch, and Spanish allies.

2. War of 1812--no allies, but no clear victory either.

3. Mexican War--no allies; significant USA victory leading to massive land transfer.

4. Civil War--all American.

5. Spanish-American War--USA joins a pre-existing rebellion against Spanish rule in Cuba and in the Phillipines.

6. World War I--USA joins war relatively late; many Allied nations.

7. World War II--USA joins war in 1941; numerous Allies.

8. Korean War--USA allied with South Korea. No victory for either side.

9. Viet Nam War--USA allied with South Vietnam. Other allies were South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and a few more. South Korea provided the second largest group of non-Vietnamese soldiers. War ends with defeat of South Viet Nam--no USA victory.

So, "How many wars has America fought and how many has it won without foreign help?"

I count 1 out of the big 8 foreign wars: the Mexican war. If we count the Civil War, which was not a foreign war, 2.

also

Britan have been in 85 wars since 1066 and have won 63 of them

Now if you want to spread off-topic, I reckon we can do that.

I believe this topic was indicating Special Forces, we don't require foreign help in that area. Did we require help in Afghanistan or Iraq? Nah, you guys are friends of the US and plus I'm sure your mates wanted to join the fight on their own terms. Why spend millions upon millions of dollars just to have your troops standing around doing nothing? Exactly, you send them off to war whenever there is a chance.

I don't see Marines or other troops going "Where's that damn Brit at?! I could use his help!". At the time, Blair and Bush laid in each others garden, possibly even lovers.. Do I care that we had foreign help in other engagements? Nope, less work I had to do I suppose. Nothing that the Americans wouldn't have been able to accomplish with more time. Again, think about it. "Hey, that country is a friend.. Let's see if they could "help" us in this war!" Why do you think we ask for help? Is it because we need help? Nope, it's because it cuts our cost as well as the amount of troops needed overseas. We send 50,000, plus however many of you redcoats over there.. bam, quota is filled and America has a pretty damned good defense at home still. Then we shall rotate.

I've spent time around other forces, We don't share the same tents, foxholes or sh*tters together.. Because we don't much like other people. But however, it is a brotherhood and we will support them in a fire-fight or hasty situation. Is it because 10 Marines can't accomplish taking out 1 HVT without the help of foreign support? No, but again, it simplifies the problem.

Wars are more political than anything, it isn't about needing help. Remember, the US has the largest military force in the world, why in the hell would we need the support of other countries for little ol Iraq or Afghanistan? Time and Money, amigo. Were we able to do what was needed to end it quickly? No, but you can blame that on all those spiffy little RoE's that are in effect today. WWII our nation's greatest generation annihilated everything we came across. Why? Because it was a matter of life and death and saving the WORLD.. and your asses, cough, if I do recall. But that's another debate. Now we can't fire upon hostile insurgents because they're are within so many yards of a f*cking Mosque or "Holy" building. (That is just one example) So yeah, that can throw a wrench in any gear when in combat.

Also, this topic is about SAS and Navy SEALs, not about Civil War, Revolutionary War, but as far as Revolutionary War, your British Empire was defeated by farmers and peasants. Not trained soldiers or marksman. OORAH to that. Why were we allies during WWI and II? Because Nazi Germany was trying to overtake the entire f*cking planet. Of course everyone was a f*cking ally. Therefore that is irrelevant. Vietnam? That was a clusterf*ck and a prime example of a political war. We may have lost the war, but we won the battles.

Done arguing with your US hating ass.. don't like us? Tough sh*t.. you're our ally. smile.gif See you in the next war.

EDIT: (Forgot, but there are also arrangements made with different allies as far as actions pertaining to war and other military use. Such as, if so and so goes to war, this ally must also assist in whatever way, blah blah. No telling how it's accurately written, but that's pretty much how it goes) I'm sure the UK has that as being an ally to the US. Plus weapons manufacturers, PMC's, etc make a killing in money off of war. Therefore of course the other country is going to intervene or even assist, it boosts economy and it fills the pockets of politicians.

There's more to it than just statistics man. Just use your noggin' next time.
