The Liberty City Appreciation Thread

I don't know why Alderney isn't growing on me. Don't get me wrong, the Industrial Part (South) and Westdyke are great but everything else just feels bland. I don't know why.

The safehouse over there is pretty meh too.

It's because you already unlocked and experienced the part of the map that people gravitate to, Algonquin. Theres all the stores and most interiors there, two safe houses, and a lot of friend activities.

I will pwn you newbs

I was never a huge fan of Alderney either

I'm beginning to get more immersed with Liberty City again. I had some fun chasing a guy all around town today and it gave me a chance to explore this city again, although it was very fast paced.

I'm doing my realistic playthrough and man, this is the best experience with IV. I recommend this to all of you or just try it.

I walk often, if my destination is really far I use a taxi. I don't steal cars, kill people etc.

I try to live as Niko would. Hove Beach is so immersive at the beginning.

I love the dark colours, dangerous atmosphere and the city itself.

This is my 7th playthrough I think (or maybe 8th), but I'm not bored at all. I don't even think about playing V no more. So many little USEFUL things made IV great for me and for many others I think.

Liberty City from IV is the best immersive city for me and I'm still waiting to see some city that will surpass this beauty (not you, LS) ;)

Pretty off topic, but after 6 years, i finally got 100% completion in IV. I got a really bittersweet feeling about it.

Long live GTA IV! Amazing city, amazing story, amazing characters and amazing gameplay.

Don't worry about it buddy, Liberty City is still very fun to play in after you complete it. I think it's time to roleplay, bro. No BDSM sh*t, but live a life as Niko, Johnny and Luis. I have fun doing that from time to time. Niko could be a vigilante perhaps, respond to gang activity with Dwayne's crew. Johnny can repeat gang wars, but I think he left pretty shortly after the story, so I prefer Luis. TBOGT has so much to do if you look for it. Visit North Holland, drug wars, golf...I also like the base jumping, and managing the clubs after Tony disappears is cool.

TBOGT was the game that I think gave me the most fun in the IV Era, even if it was the worst game. It didn't have the story or character development that the others had. But the over the top action of the story was just so much fun! I also like to roleplay, and with trainers, it's pretty cool to cruise around LC in a cop uniform with the Police Buffalo. There's also a surprising amount of people in GTA IV multiplayer who roleplay as well.

TBOGT is the first game that's ever gone from meh to awesome. I liked Luis tbh, he wasn't as bad as I used to think.

"He's a heavily armed motha f*cker!" lol Luis was an alright character, it's just i like others more. He's definitely better than CJ and Franky, but not quite the level of Niko or Tommy.

GTA IV's Liberty City feels like a second home for me. Especially Broker and Dukes. I don't like Alderny too much though...

I think GTA IV and TBOGT made the city feel so different. I loved EFLC when it first came out, I finished both stories 2 times and GTA IV 4 times. a

I don't like how R* changed the gang locations in EFLC, that just seems weird to mee.

Nowadays I mostly play GTA IV (On PC), I used to play with ENB but it kinda destroys the LC atmosphere so now I play with only SNT, some scripts and GTA V characters as peds.

GTA III and IV are my favorite GTA's

So this is my progress:

1. PC (stopped after Gravelli's 2nd mission due to severe performance issues)

2. PS3 (Out of Commission, had to return it because I'm using my friend's disc)

3. PC (ongoing, Jimmy's 2nd mission, Bernie's 2nd mission, and Gerry's 1st prison mission).

Looking forward to upgrade my PC actually, planning to buy a new graphics card. Never actually in to ENB series mod, it kinda changed the atmosphere of GTA IV.

P.S: GTA IV should've been set in Winter IMO.

Here's hoping we get Liberty City added to GTA V (and probably Online too but I don'T care about that)

I kinda hope the next GTA was set on Alderney and it's own cities (the extension of IV's Alderney), OR with current-gen's processing power they could make a full Alderney + Liberty City to form 1 big-ass map.

I am here to say that this game is probably the best game in the series, actually. I do love the 3D Era "more" but this is a biased "more" because since there is proof vehicles, and I collect them, my love will always go to the 3D Era. But if you put these types of special vehicles aside and look at it simply for entertainment purposes and a game that really gets you immersed in the city, it's GTA IV. I don't have this feeling for ANY other GTA game. IV is the game I actually sometimes don't feel like progressing in the game, but rather just drive around and take in the city. This is probably Rockstar's best GTA game and it feels like GTA, that's for sure.

My only complaint basically with this game is that the vehicle storage is pretty bad. I don't mean 10 spaces being low, what I mean is 90% of the time I get a wanted level near my safehouse, I will return to notice it disappeared. Why is this? Well, it's the cops are programmed really bad in this game and they actually steal my vehicles and drive off with them. I am still collecting EC Vehicles and Unique/Rare Vehicles in IV, so I don't want to lose what I got. Had to reload a few times cuz this happens a lot. Sometimes cops even arrest a ped on foot and put him in my vehicles and drive off. I just reload the game of course, but this was programmed to be really sh*tty, and it's the only thing I can complain about IV, really.

This game is beyond a 10/10 for me. Probably the best overall game in the series, but like I said, I love my proof vehicles and getting a collection so my biased love is always going to 3D, mainly SA and LCS, but III, VC, and VCS are still up there.

EDIT: I also like how I can change the Controller Type to Classic, which gives me partial feeling of the 3D Era controls. I can't stand V's controls. I was used to them 5 months ago, but not anymore as I just did GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS and now IV to 100% with these classic controls. GTA V is the only game that forces you to use those different controls and layout.

I don't have an issue with the storage space personally, but it's understandable why others would. I find it more annoying in GTA V that cars still disappear from garages even if it should've been fixed.

The only vehicle I can think of recently I lost in GTA IV is the Romero.

The storage SPACE, isn't bad, actually. And I can make up for it with 16 spots in TLaD and TBoGT. But what I am saying is the cops usually steal my vehicles. I've experimented with this. I load my game, then stand near my parking spaces, wait until I hear from a cop "Suspect on Foot!" and sooner or later, the cop will get in my car and drive away with it, or arrest the guy and put him in my car and drive away. Now, if I load my game and quickly run the hell away from my safehouse parking spots, this won't happen. It's programmed really bad, imo. But other than that I have no complaints, tbh.

Well, for me in V, I actually never lose a vehicle. Strange that others still lose vehicles, etc...The only time I "might lose" a vehicle is when it's in the impound since sometimes the game duplicates vehicles into the impound, or simply drops one of the vehicles out of the impound, nevertheless, it's really f*cking annoying in that aspect.

Well, the Romero is NOT a vehicle I want to lose. In IV, I am going for the 4 Unique Vehicles : Roman's Taxi, Laundromat, Police Stockade, and Romero. I am also going for a regular FIB Buffalo cuz I like this vehicle a lot and have it in GTA V, TLaD, TBoGT. I am also going for 5 EC (Exclusive Color) Vehicles, too. EC Comet, EC Coquette, EC Infernus, EC Super GT, and EC Banshee.

Then after I reach 100% with these 10 vehicles, I will then use the Craplist/Love-Meet Girlfriends to proof them to BP/DP/EP. At least Rockstar added in this feature as I think a nod to the 3D Era of proof vehicles. Too bad nothing of this exists in TLaD, TBoGT, or GTA V. IV is the last time you can get proof vehicles, but they are still nothing like the 3D Era proof vehicles as in IV, the vehicle still shows bullet holes, dents from crashing, and you can fly out the windshield and the cops can magically shoot through your bulletpoof windows that do NOT break from the bullets, the bullets just magically go through the windows without breaking them and kill you, LOL. Luckily the tires are BP, lol...

I think the problem with the spaces in IV is the cops are programmed to commandeer any vehicle in their immediate vicinity so if you're unlucky to get a wanted level outside your safehouse they'll just take whatever's close to them. I've only seen this a few times in the 6 years I've had the game.

Most of the time if I lose a vehicle it's because of when I come back later on.

I had my Roman's Taxi disappear one time when I came back to save after a mission. Then two days ago, my Comet somehow disappeared AFTER I saved it. It was there when I walked into the Bohan safehouse. But when I came out, it was gone, which made me reload a previous save and had to re-do ALL the character activity stuff that is required for 100% Completion and my god was that annoying to always save and progress the time just so I can take out another friend, etc. When I did this, the Comet disappeared. Don't know if it was a cop, don't know if it was a ped that jacked it, don't know if some idiot NPC rammed it out of the parking space, don't know...But I gotta be careful. I am over half way done with the game, though. Today, I will be 60% with 4 out of 10 or 5 out of 10 of my vehicles, then I will make another backup of my save on my USB. I always back it up every 10-15% and also if I get a vehicle, and today the Police Stockade from Tunnel of Death and the Romero from Undertaker should come up.

Edited by Militia

Yeah I have a problem with saving vehicles as well. Lost a couple other vehicles the other day and I found my Black Huntley Sport way away from the parking space in front of my apartment. I just hope my Romero doesn't go off into Oblivion now. Collecting cars in this game is fun.

Anywho I'm happy to see some people are starting to appreciate the game.

I always make back ups on a USB Drive the moment I get a vehicle, but AFTER I reload and check on ALL of my vehicles, if they are all still there, upon reloading, I will back it up on my USB again with the updated, newly obtained vehicle, etc. Thus, never losing a vehicle. I've done this in the 3D Era as well with all the proof vehicles, I got massive and nice collections in GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS, and now making a collection in GTA IV! :) Then I will re-do GTA V and do the same, but first need to get used to the controls again and gonna wait until all DLC's/Patches are released before going for 100%.

I've never disliked IV, I just could never get used to it. In 2008, when I bought a PS3 with GTA IV, I was about off to college which literally put all my gaming on pause until the summer, right before GTA V was released. So I picked up gaming with GTA V, but I eventually got bored and got to 100% quickly within the first week of October and stopped playing it around March all together, and then went back to the 3D Era, I wanted better saves than the first time around, of which I got all at 100%, 0 Deaths (Other than SA with 3 Deaths and TLaD with 1 Death), 0 Times Busted, 0 Cheats Used, 0 Missions Failed (Unless it was required to obtain a vehicle which it usually was in all the games), and a Proof Vehicle Collection and/or Unique/Rare Vehicle Collection in each game (GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, TLaD, TBoGT). So if I did all of these, I might as well do GTA IV over as well since it's been forever playing the game, and I can easily see this is the best all around GTA imo. The 200 Pigeons is pretty lame, I must say, but it gets done. It just takes a few days, that's all. Everything else is "new" and refreshing. Coming straight out of playing the 3D Era, 5 games, back to back to back to back to back, GTA IV feels refreshing. I could never really appreciate the game before, and it seems not until I got to 100% in the small, yet great, DLC's GTA IV had (TLaD/TBoGT ~ Episodes from Liberty City), did I actually start to enjoy the map and the physics of the game and vehicles, etc. Now when doing GTA IV again, I can really be immersed into this game. I REALLY need to use GPS when traveling through this map, so I am unfortunately missing some details I'd like to see, but I usually watch the missions on Youtube before playing them anyways, so I can fully enjoy the game. Funny, that, GTA IV on the PC of someone playing it on Youtube looks better than my copy of GTA IV on PS3 with good TV, LOL

I only lost one car, and it was because a cop died in the parking spot, dropping his gun inside the yellow lines. This apparently glitches the game and saved it as a vehicle. It stayed there no matter how far away I went or how long I was gone and took away Playboy X's Hummer.

GTA IV is my favourite game of all time. I love exploring the streets and roleplaying by driving normally and not doing anything illegal. I steal one or two cars that I like, then keep them for a long time and use them. My favourite thing to do it get in my car that I always use (a white Hakumai at the moment) and slowly cruise around, taking in everything. Once, I turned up the volume a lot, and was surprised by all the ambient noises in the city. Car engines, people chattering away at their cell phones, footsteps and the odd car accident. It's amazing.

By the way, I currently play it on the Xbox 360. I'll get a better computer soon and play it on the PC so I can maybe get some car mods.

Returned to IV's free roam. Even though IV lack's V's vibrancy and sharpness, I'm still completely blown away by how good the game looks. It's 6 years old, full of bloom and blur and I play it on 360, yet it still looks better than vast majority of contemporary games. R* are magicians.

True words ;)

I might add that IV was their first big game (not counting Table Tennis) on RAGE engine and they nailed it. They managed to combine it with Euphoria physics and overall city so well, that even after 6 years it's still magnificent game and didn't need patches (console) to be fully working (I'm looking at you V, still unfinished game).

Many people seem to forget that.

I just don't understand how the community didn't even finish this game. Why is it so "hard" or long or something to these people that they couldn't reach 100% or worse, even finish the story? Today is my 9th day into the game (yet to boot it up today), and I am already 60.92% Completion and in fact, only have 30 more story missions to go, including Revenge final 3 missions.

I actually really like the story in this game and don't mind the pace of the story. I also didn't see any really extremely challenging task yet in the game. I am not saying the 3D Era is actually challenging, either, but imo, since the 3D Era had proof vehicles, that was my biggest challenges to date with any of these games. The unique vehicles in IV are all so easy to obtain, like the Romero for instance. You just run quickly at the end of the mission in front of the Romero to stop it, and then get in it and drive away. No challenges at all, lol...

However, IV feels the most fresh out of any of the games in the series, though, and when I wake up, I actually think of Liberty City and all the fun I had the prior day, which fuels me to play it yet again and work toward 100%. Hopefully by the end of today, I will be near 70% Completion and have the next vehicle on my list, the EC Super GT from the mission Union Drive. And then the EC Coquette the following day from the mission Payback. Yesterday I got the Police Stockade and Romero and backed up my save on my USB. Thus never losing a vehicle from those crazy sh*tty programmed police, lol
