The Liberty City Appreciation Thread

I can't believe it.

I had no idea there was a second laundromat near Steinway. Do you have any idea how many times I've driven on that bridge?

Lol. I honestly have never taken notice.

Bravo LC. Still amazing me after almost 6 years.

It took me around 2-3 years to discover it too and I only last year discovered that there's also a sex shop near Star Junction. I had no idea. Regarding the police stations it took me a long time to understand that the house next to the park where Derrick is is a police station and that there's more than one in Bohan. Also it took me years to figure out that all hospitals have med packs, I thought only a few of them do. It took me ages to figure out a way onto Broker Bridge walkway as well. To people who found out something new through my ramblings, you're welcome.

I do wish Alderney was better. Being from Jersey myself they could have done so much more with it. Why not a recreation of Atlantic City or the shore?

I too wish Alderney was better. Back when I was getting deeply immersed with Liberty City and uncovered a lot of buildings and views I hadn't seen before, Alderney had intrigued md the least. Berchem was beautiful, Westdyke was peaceful and isolated, and Actor's grime and abandoned vibe was interesting, but everything else about Alderney bored me.

Instead of that bland Newark downtown lookalike, they could have done a Staten Island lookalike. And the port could have been a bit bigger and livelier. Westdyke should have had an extra block with a more modern suburban vibe.

Almost everything else about LC still intrigues me though. 6 years in and the detail is still immense.

The rest of LC was just beautiful but you could tell they did not research Jersey very much. We ar the Rodney Dangerfield of America though so I am used to it.

I like going to Bohan, even in high-end cars such as the Oracle. The grit and grime is so detailed and realistic. The imperfections in the road are all unique and its fun to see how a car's performs when you ride over them. Bohan has been one of my favorite places since 2008 itself. Its truly Rockstar's best attempt at making an ultimate, depressing sh*thole.

I love walking through the streets of Northwood, and downtown in the main part of the city. I also love Bohan, it was awesome! LC needs to return to GTA VI !!

LC ? No more LC, it would be Liberty State. Remember Rockstar wanted to do Liberty State for GTA IV ?

I really like Happiness Island and Algonquin.

Happiness Island is one of my most memorable areas in this game - I got up to some real crazy stuff there on both Single Player and Multiplayer, and I remember all my failed attempts trying to land on the right platform to see the heart :p

I absolutely love the road detail in this game. It would be flawless if the details were more high-resolution. The cracks, the uneven surfaces, the potholes, and the beautiful cobblestone in Suffolk and Little Italy. I have no idea why, but it is an absolute joy to ride over such rough roads, to just observe the the suspension movements of a car. The detail kind of surpasses Los Santos as far as roads in my opinion. The roads in V may be more high-resolution, but they lack the extreme unevenness that a lot of roads in Los Angeles possess.

Yeah the roads have a lot of character in iv, as well as the driving compliments it nicely. Someone else in this thread talked about how they loved the different vehicles reactions to bumps and drops in this game. I agree, really loved that for the past 5 or so years. So much character in lc's streets.

What makes IV better for me, is the magnificent sunrise upon Liberty City standing on a roof top and just admire the beautiful view of the concrete jungle which is Liberty City. Just something which I think can't be beaten by V in my opinion. The silhouette of Niko standing there makes me appreciate IV like never before. How R* made this game is something of greatness of an unbelivable and stunning city which is just unbeatable.

Being born & raised in NY, Liberty City will always be my top GTA city and the way they built in IV was breathtaking. For me, I'm not happy with the lack of safehouse purchasing etc in V but in IV, I didn't even care. That's how great the game was and still is

Just did a tour around the city in a dark grey Sentinel w/ black wheels. I did it all following the rules of the road and allowing the weather to cycle. This city is just beautiful and I still get more enjoyment from cruising around Liberty City than I ever did from Los Santos.

Have you cruised in Plumbers Skyway Sting? You should do that, especially at night. It's amazing. I also had a lot of fun crashing the side-walls with the bike and flying off and hitting other cars/bikes and watching them fly off. People say this game isn't fun but I still had lots of fun with this game.

I do quite a lot. I take that route all of the time when I'm heading to the abandoned Sprunk Factory. I rarely take the route at night though.

To the guy talking about sunrises, I agree. I f*cking love it when the sunrises between 4:30 and 6:30, especially when I'm in the city. It just looks so welcoming and awesome. The sunrises in V were a bit... dull but it definitely had better sunsets.

I'm going to go ahead and double post; this is what I did/was amazed by in Liberty City today:

IuXpuUh.jpg

I found a gorgeous Yardie's Huntley Sport and painted it a rich blue, then I got Niko a suit with a floral undershirt and some golden sunglasses from the Russian shop. Feeling like a wealthy badass, I cruised around the city and enjoyed the surprisingly fast yet comfortable car and the beautiful sights. I stopped in Meadow Hills just to walk around and I also stopped in Suffolk. After years and years of playing this game, these areas never get old and pulling up in a classy blue Huntley Sport only enhanced the moments. I know its a little absurd to compare, but I just never got that feeling in V. I remember driving a Baller Sport around Los Santos all day a few months ago and it just didn't feel right. Why can I feel more badass in IV, a game where you can't even spend that much money, than I ever could in V, where everything is about money and the "pursuit of the almighty dollar"? I just can't wrap my head around that, but I guess Rockstar must've done something right with IV.

Anyways, I took my "stupid fast" Huntley Sport to the abandoned beach in northern Westdyke and enjoyed the secluded feel and the detail. I loved the fact that I could actually climb rocks with my SUV and even submerge part of it. I also drove down to Beachgate and then roamed around Algonquin, just enjoying the sights again. People say "oh Algonquin is empty" "there's never enough cars" but I beg to differ. I just drove through Lower Easton to get back to Suffolk and the atmosphere just felt so lively and surprisingly vibrant. The weather was as sunny as could be at around 12:30PM and there were tons of cars driving around, an appropriate amount of pedestrians just roaming about. It was lovely.

This game is beautiful and I still love this map more than I ever could love V's.

Ah, there's nothing like a nice stroll through Middle Park, with the sun beaming down and the sound of the city filling your ears.

It's funny how, even after years of playing IV, it's still keeping me entertained, whereas V.... well, it's not BORING, but it does become tiresome.

It pains me that my IV disk is getting really old. :( Certain parts of the city missing/being replaced by blue hell is becoming increasingly common.

You could probably get another pretty cheap now.

Yeah you can get the whole set of IV and EFLC for like 20 bucks.
