Just to bring this thread up again, but do you know what I love about GTA IV? Going for those walks in the rain.

I love the missions where there is scripted rain, adds a whole new feel to it. (The Master and The Molotov, A revengers tragedy)

Does anyone else notice in the mission "Out of Commission" the song used in the first trailer plays every time while in LJ's car?

I agree with this. Those missions wouldn't have the same impact if it was all bright and sunny IMO.

Liberty is beautiful in indeed. The amount of detail is just amazing. It feels like New York a virtual New York.

 

I love LC best at night, though. When the lights come up, just take a helicopter and fly along and it's just a magnificent site.

Ha, I definitely get what you're saying. LC has a certain unmistakeable vibe to it, which really can't be compared to much else. The thing I like the most about LC is that, depite the fact that alot of areas "seem the same", as I continue to play I'm forever discovering something new about LC.

 

My favorite borough is definitely Broker. Sttill very urban, but not quite as busy as Algonquin. Always something going on there.

 

And the subway system in LC is top notch, really capture the feel of NYC subways imo. Stations that are dark and grungy in damn near any neighborhood, loudspeakers on the trains are tough to understand at times, sketchier neighborhoods always have some thugs hanging around in or near the station.

 

Both of my parents, lifetime NYC natives, have watched me play IV in amazement, pointing out similarities to real life places and old folk stuff like that. Lmao they love it and my folks don't even like video games.

Liberty City, in my opinion, is the greatest city ever created in gaming history. The lights of Star Junction, the busy streets of the Exchange, the ghettos of Bohan, the old world feel of Dukes, the quaint suburbs of Westdyke, it's all so overwhelming. And the excessive level of detail is stunning. No other game has so much detail.

Playing through IV's storyline again has made me fall in love with Liberty City. In this new session I finally refrain from using weather cheats and let everything go naturally. It's so beautiful! Some days in the city as so bright a vibrant and then you have those awesome late night storms.

 

Liberty City is one of my favorite video gaming cities ever. The only city that can surpass this is Los Santos IMO. So far Los Santos looks so good!

I don't even think LS needs to surpass it. Each GTA city is unique in its own way. Sure LS will be more detailed, but LC has its own charm that simply can't be replicated/bettered IMO.

I woke up at 8 am and headed down to the Internet Cafe in North Holland. I see I've a nice email from my mother, brought a smile to my usually gloomy face. I reply back but it saddens me I may never return to the old country again.

 

As I walk outside I get a call from Roman. He wants to get some food. So I hop in my yellow Comet Brucie gave to me and pick him up in Bohan. We drive to the burger shot in Star Junction. Roman tells me burger shot is responsible for his fifth chin. I'd love to know who is responsible for his 6th. When we're done we drive back to Bohan. Roman slags me over a girl I had a crush on back in Serbia. We decide to buy a bottle of Vodka on the way home and we share a glass of it together with Mallorie, as I'm leaving their baby starts to cry.

 

I drive off in my comet. I'm heading to Alderney to purchase some ammunition. Along the way I'm chased by a single cop car. I didn't realize I was driving that bad. I only had one f*cking vodka. I lose them at Varsity Heights and continue on to the gun store in Port Tudor. So after I head outside the store after buying the ammo I notice a few Italian-Americans admiring my car. I walk up to unlock the car. One of them throws an insult and pulls a knife. He tells me to hand over the keys. My response? I whack him over the head with my glock, take his knife and gut one of his friends. The other one runs off. I get out of there fast and drive back into Algonquin.

 

I get a call I was expecting from Jacob. He has that package he wants me to deliver. I drive out to Beechwood City and get in the banged up car. I deliver it under a bridge in that park in Outlook. The second I drop it off, four guys appear with guns demanding the package. I take out my glock and a shootout follows. After I've wasted them all I get the hell out of there. I ring Jacob and he's pissed.

 

sh*t I'm stressed as f*ck. I need a game of bowling.....

On Topic: I usually don't like LC because it appears in almost every GTA but the one in IV is very nice. I love cruising at night through Star Juncion in my Infernus

Hanging around in the sky near the Broker coast overlooking Algonquin's skyline, that's a priceless view.

Something I didn't understand about Liberty City and I thought this is the time, although it's too late, to ask about it. Whenever I went to the beach at night, in calmness and no noise, I hear a humming sound 'hum, hum, humf, humf' in the background. Would a Liberty City resident take some time to explain what this sound is?

Man, I can just cruise along LC's roadways all the time. I'm doing it right now, in TBOGT. I really do live a life in this game. I actually go to sleep (which saves the game) every night, as a real person would do. Every day, I take a trip to Burger Shot, and go to Internet Cafe to check my emails. I go to the car wash, and give my Coquette the love that it deserves often. In the evenings, I love taking a trip to the Maisonette to enjoy a nice dance with the ladies.

I love cruising along the Plumbers Skyway in my midnight black Marbelle. I always make sure to do it at least once every time I play the game.

The Plumber's Skyway is pretty awesome! It's the only road in the game that feels like a freeway.

Bump.

 

I must say, I just love Hove Beach. It feels so nostalgic. The place is great for cruising around in a Banshee, the train going above the safe house and the Algonquin skyline is just, to put it simply awesome. The Firefly projects next to Hove is also simply amazing. Broker and Dukes are my favorite boroughs in the game.

 

I love Broker because it was the first place Niko arrived in and it feels like home, like I stated above, looking at the tall Algonquin skyline is absolutely amazing.

 

I just love to take a train ride at night from Broker to Dukes and observe the surroundings at Night when the city just lights up. It feels so realistic looking from a train high above the road. I love the Airport, it's another great place for cruising around.

Wow i just wanted to say thanks to all of you, for all the awesome suggestions.

I have this game since it was released and never walked and actually experience liberty city as you should.

Yesterday i was playing it again and decided to not use a car.

I stepped out of my appartment in alqonquin the one above and i went to the station and entered the train. I exited in hove beach night time with rain )). It was so awesome to see hove beach and take a long walk and see the people in it, the agressive mobsters if you take out your gun the will start shooting on you so it actually felt dangerous it was awesome i love hove beach

The more and more the game progressed, the more Niko was detached from the city. In Hove Beach, it was literally a corner of Europe. Algonquin however, while beautiful, diverse, and the hub of what matters, felt very strange from the perspective of Niko. It just felt so odd, from making fifty bucks a fare, which would actually leave you with nothing, to a luxury penthouse in the epicenter of the western world. Alderney had it's own look to it. Didn't really feel Italian enough for me, but it still had very detailed little shops, exclusive to that part of the city. The industrial wasteland that ever so tightly holds on to the edge of Alderney, complimented with an array of various trucks and equipment, immigrants hard at work with protective gear on....I could go on and on.

yes liberty city is something. i love to drive on the interstates and walk around the town. i think liberty city is the best city created in a game. but los santos might just beat that. i will always play gta 4. and every neighborhood felt different. hove beach is european, chinatown is asian, little italy, etc. i do hope los santos is diverse and majestic as liberty city.

Since the two last weeks, I've been cruising around Liberty City in my Buzzard in TBOGT, looking at all the details, the views, the buildings and then, I realized something: The city looks far better from ground than from the air. Some buildings' roofs textures are ugly and repetitive. So then, by car, I've started cruising around, trying to explore every streets and highways around the city. The details this city has are amazing. The only part of the city I dislike is Alderney City. Why did they combine Jersey City and Newark? They couldn't just do Jersey City alone? Anyway. I was searching for great view of Liberty City's skyline and I found the three best spots:

 

 

 

Port Tudor: It offers great views of Algonquin's skyline and from the spot I've marked, it's possible to see the Statue of Happiness.

Colony Island: Form the southern part of the island, There is a great view of both Algonquin and Broker's skyline.

Hove Beach: On the western part, there is a great view of Lower Algonquin and the Broker Bridge.

 

The Rotterdam Tower and the Plumbers Skyway also provide awesome views of the city, but I was trying to find great views from the ground.

Liberty City isn't for everybody, because it's a gritty place. I've always said if Batman were real, he'd live in LC. My favorite places are Uptown, from Holland to the BH (Bohan) because Bohan is really the last piece of gritty authentic LC left. Algonquin has too many tourists and is a headache, I live in Algonquin but half the time Im there I feel like escaping to the outer boroughs. Algonquin makes me mad as f*ck, I don't even drive in Algonquin, too many tourists and cabs crawling all over the place. Cops everywhere. I never feel at peace there, it's just too much going on day and night. Plus when you walk in Algonquin, the tall buildings make you feel like an insect. You feel unimportant in Algonquin. As far as the other boroughs go, Dukes is okay and Broker changed. If you go to Broker, you can tell that BK aint the same as it was in the 90's and that half of BK was gentrified. Matter fact, theres some parts of Boabo and East Hook that look like they were former hoods. It's real obvious when you're in certain parts of town that the city has transformed from 90's, but Bohan still has that 90's Liberty City soul that reminds me of the dangerous days of the old LC where gangs chased you through neighborhoods, Puerto Rican used to bash people's skulls in with baseball bats, back when wild Jamaicans used to beat people's asses at the park, and back when you couldn't ride the train or subway without carrying a gun on you because your enemies would be waiting as soon as you got to the station. That was the old LC, the BH is kind of all that's left untouched. Not gonna mention Alderney aka Aldirty aka AD because who cares? It's Algonquin, BH, BK, and Dukes.
