The Liberty City Appreciation Thread

I was about to download it a while ago. It's 3 gigs, yet it took almost 10 minutes to download 1 MB and I realized, the server was so slow that it's not worth my time. It looks cool though, I always wanted a GTA set in winter with snowfall.

Inb4 "GTA Online got snow............for 1 day"

I have tried to download the Snow mod as well. It crashed out at around 30% completion.

Cheers.

So I'm about to buy a GTX 560 SE today, hopefully will run IV at *atleast* medium, and enjoy the eyecandy of IV (on atleast X360 graphics).

Seems like I'm gonna enjoy cruising around LC again.

It's slightly better than my old GTX460, which was good enough to run IV with all settings at high with 60+ FPS, although the framerate dropped when there was a lot going on on-screen. And to add to that, the graphics are a lot better than on X360. In case you are interested, console equivalent settings can be found here.

Liberty City is looking good either way. And I don't seem to get bored of it, ever. There's something about this game that makes me play it every once in a while, and that something is the reason IV has been my favourite of the series for years.

Does anyone like the way LC looks at 7:00 am. I just came out the car wash in beechwood city, and it just looked amazing, I heard a car alarm going off a block away, a led got mowed down by a speeding taxi, just awesome.

Same here. The morning atmosphere of LC is something why I never really get bored playing the game. Maybe in the past, like 3 years ago, but now I can never really stop appreciating how R* used a dark and gritty game, and added a beautiful autumn sunrise in to the mix to create something of a balance.

The more there is DLC's for V, the more I appreciate IV for being what it is now. Something simple and intriguing that can still hold's it own amongst games of now.

Especially when the sky is like overcloud like at night, with the moon out shining through with that spooky feel to it. All of mixture of greys with the moon out, and something that still makes me go wow.

Ended up buying a HD 6770 instead. 560 SE's are out of stock in most stores here. And ended up pausing my PC rebuilding project, needed a new case and a new PSU (the card won't fit and the PSU itself are only 230W anyway)/

You should have gotten a 7770, it's quite a bit better.

7770 is like, $180-200 here. AFAIK it's the same card as the one found in X1, right?

I love the way LC looks at 5:20 am, by then the sky looks beautiful. The morning in general is my favorite time of day in LC, so bright and vibrant. Stormy mornings are my favorite though, the feeling- the atmosphere is so deep and charming.

I'm doing a realistic playthrough. I'm following traffic laws & using more cabs/trains. Man, it's amazing. Has anyone noticed that pedestrians really can't drive?

Like, I've seen more hit & runs on foot than a lil' bit. I don't mean to bash on the game, I'm just surprised that there are a lot of car crashes.

One more thing. Riding the train and walking really brings out the city features. I like the ambient noises in the background too. Really... this game takes the cake.

Would you recommend I do a realistic playthrough.

If you have the patience and wanna pay attention to detail, sure. :)

Here's a thread with a buttload of suggestions how to play realistically. Now, you don't have to do all of these, but it's worth giving it a shot. You might pick up on something you never noticed before.

I've already read through that thread, i might try to do is sooner or later.

Hey, don't rush yourself. Play how you want. I'm doing my first playthrough now. I'm not even at the part where Luis is introduced. It just takes time, but it's all on your own pace.

I've done two playthrouhhs but not a realistic playthrough. I might do the possible trinity playthrough with the realistic.

That's what I'm doing.

Liberty City, the good old times. Sometimes I just went to the heli pad in Alderney City and took of with the Maverick, seeing the amazing skyline of LC at night, flying between the skyscrapers... Taking a ride on the Algonquin Bridge listening to Hello's New York Groove at a nice afternoon . I do have to admit that I feel like I went from a great city to another great city in V. But I will never forget LC and the amazing time I've spent in it.

Btw, I know this is nitpicking but the thread title should be corrected to "Liberty City Metropolitan Area Appreciation Thread" since Alderney isn't part of LC. The "ugly sister" deserves some recognition though. :p

Needs recognition? Yes, but is it ugly? Heck no. Alderney was quite good actually, comparable to Broker.

Quotation marks, my friend. It's how Alderney is called in the Liberty City Guidebook, so don't blame me.

Such an underrated place mate. It's quite detailed actually. I would love to see R* to actually use Alderney (and the rest of Alderney State) on the next GTA game.

I would love to see an Atlantic City styled area. The boardwalk, the beaches and the casinos!

I agree with you that it's underrated, although I have to admit that I like the northern neighborhoods more than the ones south of Berchem and Alderney City. I recommend everyone to take a drive on the Beaverhead Avenue at evening (the road where the old casino is located), beautiful coastal drive, one of the best streets to take a ride on IMO.

Damn, the interactive map is still unavailable...

Went on a rampage yesterday in Algonquin. Got out of my car and I was running down a lane, away from the cops. I pulled out my gun and pointed it at this dude. That dude was on his cellphone and he said "Somebody's got a gun!". I shot him in the face and he ran way. (Which is weird because I blasted him in the face and he still went away unscathed lol).

Epic.

I'm driving a dark blue Feltzer around Algonquin, constantly setting the weather back to overcast, and the atmosphere is just so... it just feels so deep, cold, and majestic.

I can't enjoy LC much as of late due to finally getting a job and starting to work 40+ hours a week, but when I get time, I always come back to playing as I am not 100% yet and only 95%. I didn't play all this week, until yesterday, Saturday, and today, Sunday. I just got done with the 30 Most Wanted Kills and did 20 Vigilante Kills last week before my job started.

All I got left now is to do 50 Stunt Jumps, of which I will do next weekend on Saturday, and 200 Pigeons of which I will start next Sunday, and then finish them the following weekend.

Idk why Rockstar finds collectables so rewarding to put into the games. III, VC, LCS, VCS, TLaD, and TBoGT I do not mind for collectables, but SA, IV, and V really suck ass for including so many of them...Even though GTA V for 100% it's not much, but for "true" 100%, there is a lot more. These aren't fun at all. Worst part of GTA for me, tbh.

So after playing V for two weeks, I got bored of it and put in IV. Forgot how much better this game is. Also if you want to explore a borough, I suggest varsity heights.

I really love Varsity Heights, it is so different from all other parts of the game.
