Eh, I'm not sure this belongs here, maybe the discussion forum rather. But I love onions, I make so many dishes with onions.

Brown onions on the other hand, now those are some bitches, they fill your whole apartment with this annoying smell and burn your eyes like it's the nudist beach.

Oven baked onions with carrots and potatoes (also oven baked) is all I need to survive a week.

I'll eat just about anything and I'm not picky about what's available for food. I could be perfect contempt with a few Mallomars and a glass of milk for breakfast. With that said, I do have a very fast metabolism, so I require meals in between meals to keep from feeling hungry. As for dining choices, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Eggs over easy with a side of sausage, home fries and toast and cup of coffee always does the trick. When it's time for lunch, I'm at work, so I usually eat wraps and burgers and greasy sh*t with a side of soda. Dinner is always a big thing at my house. My girlfriend loves to cook and prepare new things, so she always whips up great meals. Seafood, in particular, is a favorite of mine, in addition to chicken and most poultry. For dessert, anything sugary will do. Whether it is a tub of ice cream or a Klondike bar or two, I'm satisfied. As for snacks, I'll grab something from the pantry and down it with some Pepsi or something. I don't usually care what I eat for a snack, but chips and pretzels and dip are always good for me.

Onions are awesome! Especially red onions on sandwiches. Onions are an ingredient in a ridiculous amount of dishes, I'm a trainee chef and I don't think that a day has gone by yet where I haven't chopped an onion for something or other.

I made chicken chasseur today, it was awesome.

I just love muckef*ck, magnificently delicious - though I can't say the same for strangle the priest, tasted like cow dung. Speaking of which, has anyone tried sh*t on a shingle?

Onions are one of the things, beside additives, that makes those fast foods you like taste so "good". When they're cooked they essentially sweat a sweet oil which most fast food companies use to add sweetness without adding too much sugar. Also, there are various types of onions so I'd give them all a try before you wipe them from your diet for good. They're pretty good for you. The same applies to pasta. There is so much, literally hundreds of types, of pasta to choose from so saying you "hate" it is a bit dramatic. There are also different styles of cooking each one making it a different experience each time.

Personally, I love the hell out of most food. I used to be a chef so when you have to try food you don't like on a regular basis, you eventually get used to it. I'm not a massive fan of seafood, especially of the prawn variety. That texture is something that was definitely not designed to be put in mouths. The best thing for me is roast vegetables. Honestly, present me with a tonne of roast veg with a bit of olive oil and plenty of herbs and I'm yours tounge.gif If I see some butternut squash in there, I'll squash my butternut all over the place. Greatest veg on Earth. Get that f*cker in some paprika chicken wraps with some salad and guacamole and, my god, you have one hell of a masterpiece lying before you.

If you loved grammar as much as you loved food, the world would be a better place.

I just finished stuffing my face about 5 minutes ago as it happens. Chicken and black bean with rice and chips. Yes chips, because I'm British and we have them with literally everything. Burger? Get some chips with that sum' bitch. Bangers and mash? Why not make it bangers and mash and chips. That's a lovely looking salad, but you forgot your chips. Lasagne you say, well that would go nice with some chips. Sunday roast? Chips. Curry? Chips! Paella? Chips! Spaghetti Bolognese? CHIPS! Lobster thermidor? CHIPS! Risotto? CHIIIIIIPS! Yoghurt? CHIIIIIIIIIIIIPS!!! Everything goes with chips.

I thought this'd be about real food, not takeaways and sh*t.

I'd love to be able to make some proper fancy dishes, but my appetite is way out of step with my skills. the only thing I can cook with repeatable quality is pasta. I'm a goddamn pasta fiend. All types of pasta are gorgeous. The only thing you can ruin pasta with is mushrooms. F*ck mushrooms.

I'm with you. I absolutely adore pasta dishes. Love making all different recipes with all the varietys of pasta and sauces. But I f*cking detest cooked mushrooms. However, raw mushrooms I have no problem with for some reason confused.gif

Somebody mentioned Dominos pizza earlier. It's maybe just my local Dominos pizzeria, but it tastes like f*cking cardboard smothered with rubbery cheese. f*cking horrible.

I feel for mushrooms. So much hate. Poor things sad.gif

I love mushrooms stuffed with mixed pepper couscous. Get some soft cheese on that and you have yourself one mighty fine dish.

Pasta is one heck of a foodstuff. It's a lot like potatoes, you can do so much with so little. The best thing about pasta is the variety. Personally, I love making a tuna steak bake with conchiglie and coating the lot in powdered nutmeg. That right there is an incredibly simple dish to make, takes little to no effort and tastes god damn incredible.

A lot of cooking is relatively simple when you break it down. When I first started working in kitchens all I did was butter bread and prep the side salad (boring just doesn't cover it). I started watching the other chefs and making mental notes of what they would do, little tricks they had, all sorts of little things. Eventually you learn that many dishes are quite similar in some aspect and that something as simple a roux sauce (basic white sauce) can be used to make many, many things. Once you learn one thing, a million other pieces of information attach themselves to that original recipe. Obviously, an interest and general want of cooking skills is needed but, for simple home cooking, there are some really simple things to learn that can open endless opportunities of experimentation.

I guess being a chef, you really have to establish a taste for pretty much anything and everything.

I myself can be quite picky with certain foods. Seafood isn't something I'm very fond of tbh. Fish n chips and scampi are about as far as I go with seafood.

My particular favourite pasta dish is so simple. A really good homemade tomatoe sauce with loads of ingredients, blended with rigatoni pasta. Then add in some homemade mozzarella meatballs (little dash of mustard in the meatballs - yum). Stir it all together, pour it into a casserole dish, cover with more mozzarella and breadcrumbs, nuke the f*cker in the oven for 30-40 mins, garnish with some parmesan and hey presto, I'm in food heaven.

Great served with a deep-fried mars bar and bottle of whiskey. biggrin.gif

Today I've given Chick-fil-a's fries another chance, but they still stuck, they taste more potato-like than even fries that advertise as being potato fries, but in a bad way.

The most fancy dish I can put together is grilled cheese, but I love it so much so(How'd that slip in there?).

That's true but, like yourself, I still detest most seafood. I remember having to try squid once and almost threw up. It's like eating an elastic band that's been pulled out of a ducks arse. Putrid.

Your meatball dish sounds pretty damn good (Stu, don't make an innuendo out of that tounge.gif). Putting mustard with most meats is a perfect way to add a bit of "oomph" to them. A great thing to add to meatballs is Marmite. I know, I know, most people don't like it but you don't use enough for it to become that noticeable, maybe half a teaspoon or so. Also, Worcestershire sauce is the best "secret ingredient" known to mankind. Add it to anything, anything at all, and it immediately adds a tonne of flavour. Amazing stuff.

Love that last bit about the mars bars lol.gif

Squid....arghhhhhg....there is no f*cking way you'd catch me putting that stuff in my mouth. The very thought of it makes me want to vomit my guts out. I don't know how you managed to prevent it reversing back out your system.

Your right about mustard. Adds such a tasty kick to many meals if used in the right proportion. As for your marmite suggestion, hmm, I hate that stuff so I'm not too sure, but I see what you mean if the right amount is used. Might try adding a tiny amount next time I make meatballs, test it out.

As for worcestershire sauce, I completely forgot about that stuff. My dad would add that sh*t to anything! Cheers for reminding me cookie.gif

Let's talk twiglets. I hate them. I hate everything about them. They are the most putrid and disgusting snack I've ever tasted and they look like Nik-Naks but they're sh*t. I had a try of them at my cousins house last year, and they seemed alright at first glance. But as soon as I put that lump of strangely shaped whatever the f*ck it is into my mouth I spat it out immediately and ran for water. The taste was just like really bitter vomit, and really intense.

In terms of actual meals, I guess I'm not too bad as long as I'm following a recipe. I'm not one of these "I don't need measurements I just go by what feels right" swinging shlong types, I need to carefully measure my ingredients out and follow it to the letter like the insecure fuddy duddy that I am. And whenever I start my cooking, it has to be just as the minute hand changes to a new minute. I'm not at all OCD or particularly regimented in any other aspect of my life either, only when it comes to food. And I hate flour! It feels so horrible on your hands, I just can't stand it. I remember in school whenever we cooked and used flour I'd be washing my hands every 2 minutes because I hated the sensation of it.

I tried squid once on holiday, think they called it Calamari over in Spain. I didn't mind the taste, but the texture was like the inside of a tennis ball. Really tough and really leathery and my jaw was killing afterwards. And I only had a small piece about the size of a small onion ring. Another texture I can't stand is liver, it's hard to describe but it tastes kinda gritty and bitty. Nasty nasty stuff.

That meatball is clearly innocent, but that "oomph" does seem rather suspect and sinister. You keep your oomphs away from my mouth.

Mushrooms are a fungus, so is athletes foot, you wouldn't catch me eating those things.

As for me well I'm addicted to food, I kinda have to be otherwise I wouldn't have lived as long as I have, apparently it's one of those things like air... apparently we need that as well, who knew?!?. I'm not one for Fast Food though it's so full of salt and other crap like ears, noses and arseholes. I also don't like fruit, don't mind the flavour of fruits, just can't eat the things themselves, except bananas, can't stand them at all they taste rank and the flavour is like a sweaty baffy. Don't like veg, unless it pureed up into a soup with a heavy tomato base, again just can't eat the things, and most of them taste like soil anyway, and that's made of dead plants, animals and honey badger sh*t. Spuds on the other hand, they're class, mashed with loads of cream, butter, garlic and herbs... that's herbs with a haitch not herbs with a errrrr, I love America, I love Americans (except a couple on here but then can't help that if they act like douchabags), but I digest, will you please pronounce the H, it's not 'ard.

Food loves, well Rachael Ray and Nigella Lawson... hmmm... sorry where was I, yeah, love Italian, Southwestern, British, Fish and Mudderskipping Chips for the win yo, Mexican, Caribbean, Spanish, North African, Greek, Chinese (not not that freaky stuff, Chicken, Pork etc, not Panda Testicles or Sharks Ovaries), Asian, that's oriental Asian, but not Indian Asian, kinda gone off curry these days, and when I say Asian I don't mean Dog... except Dachshunds, shove them them on a loaf of bread and you got proper Hot Dogs, Turkish (again dog) and Southern... that's Southern United States not Southern England, that's just Vajazzled Jellied Eels with a side of stab'n'shoot.

As for cooking myself, well I don't like to, never really fancied putting myself in a boiling pot. But if you were to ask me if I like cooking then yeah, love cooking, love baking as well.

This has made me hungry I'm off to find a dead squirrel and deep fry it pot of lard and serve it with a lager sauce.

I stopped at your hate for mushrooms. f*ck that. Mushrooms are great.

I have a very rich history with good food that I tend to take for granted I guess. I would love to go into details but it would be way too long to read.

Holy crap....I almost went all old man philosophical here. Phew...

I'll boil it down to: "dudes, learn how to cook...chicks dig it".

Nice pun. Spot on too. Since I got with my current girlfriend who is a bit of a food buff I've learnt so much. Really rewarding to do things properly, even if it's as basic as a Chilli or a Roast. Experimentation is half the fun too, just remember to note down what you've added (I've made some kick-ass hot currys before and forgot to jot down what quanitities of what I added sad.gif ).

Chalk me up for a Mushroom lover. In a meal, on their own or f*ck it even raw, it's lovely.

MMmmhhmmm! I love pasta! I also love chicken!

Sometimes i wish i could cook the really fancy dishes, but often the simple meals are nicer.

If you ever want to try something nice, cook some minced meat and some Macaroni, then butter up the macaroni, add mince meat to the macaroni, mix it, and salt it a little.

Also cutting up frankfurts/hotdogs that are cooked up and mixing them with Macaroni is also an awesome simple dish.

My favourite meal is hands down a chicken mild curry i make, get some nice chicken breast fillets, fry them up and boil some rice, then add cream to chicken and a few mild spices and hey presto my favourite dish.

I love food so much, i need to restrain myself from wasting all my money on food otherwise it turns into a 30 dollar a day affair.

This is very true. My house-mate once asked why I, if I can cook most things, do I insist on eating nothing but sandwiches. My reply simply outlined the various aspects of how god damn f*cking amazing a sandwich can be. Honestly, if you have some nice bread and a great filler, I firmly believe you could live on nothing but sandwiches. I practically do. My favourite so far has to be pulled pork with stuffing and apple sauce. That first bite was so damn soft and mouthwatering. Another is the New York deli one I sometimes make. I've always wanted to make a Reuben sandwich. They look immense. If there's one thing I love about America, it's that they know how to make a god damn sandwich properly.

I love sandwiches as well, Pork is so underrated, i bloody love the stuff, a Reuben sandwich? I have those pretty often (Yep. they're good) since Corn Beef is simple to cook, basically boil it for a few hours.

Usually for sandwiches though a simple steak sandwich, or a sandwich pressed ham sandwich is enough to keep me happy for some time, eventually they do get a little stale but if you cook simple it is incredibly easy to change it up.

Save the fancy dishes for the chefs when you don't have to make it.

I've been trying to perfect my pizza dough recipe, light and fluffy on the inside but the bottom just doesn't f*cking cook so I end up scrapping it off my pizza stone with a giant layer of dough just hanging around. I think I'm gonna try out this no-knead recipe I found on Serious Eats though;

Favourite pizza topping to date has to be spinach, potato and mozzarella.

I've always found the kneading process kinda therapeutic. I've tried some of the no-knead recipes too and the one that sticks in my memory tasted great, but had a sort of flaky, pastry-ish texture which felt a bit wrong when cooked.

Kind of a food buff myself. I try to make most things from scratch over the week if I can help it. I've learned to actually make something you really enjoy but make too much of it so the left overs either have to go in the fridge for later on in the week or freeze it when you can't be bothered to cook.

My dishes to be awed at are Chicken stir fry (or some other meat)

Beef stew - which usually goes for left overs as it tastes better after a couple days.

Parmesan chicken, with some veg usually. I think next time I might add some garlic with the chicken to give it a little bit of a kick.

Spaghetti bolognese - All from scratch, no tinned pasta sauce in that sh*t I can assure you.

All in all, most of those can be put in the freezer for later use or put in the fridge for left overs. The stew & bolognese take around 2-4 hours or a little longer depending if I have the time. Make them at the weekend ready for the week ahead. I intend to make some more recipes my speciality in the future but I've got to find some first.

I'm going to have to check with my wife to see if there are any easy to pass along tips.

She has perfected pizza dough throughout the years.

I have rekindled my love for food now that I quit smoking. It is amazing how much I can taste/smell now.
