Finally someone making some sense, V has been in development since gta 3. vice city, san Andreas and iv are all just Betas. V will be the final product.

Seriously, I think they started not long after iv was released.

Okay, about Packie and the plane V, it's not that important, but Jerry Kapowitz WAS SEEN in the trailer.

Who was seen in where now? o_O

Some random bum that did not look anything like anyone from IV or EfLC.

"Also, contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel, so we can wait for the excitement or disappointment and everything else of the experience to shake down and really see what we should do in the next game."

I'd say not too long after EFLC, and even then not in any form of full development.

Just to make it clear, I am talking about the very beginning, when Sam and Dan had a meeting with all senior staff and announced R* is starting the long and tedious process of going about creating the "most ambitious game ever"?

My wild guess, 3-4 years, probably 6 months after GTA IV was released, they started R&D.

Take a guess and let the fine people of our community know what you think!

Regards,

e.

What's R&D?

Registration and Development? monocle.gif

I'd say 2 and a half years btw. Maybe they took a break or shifted to work on RDR and/or MP3.

I say four years, but not four years "full development" obviously. There was Agent and all that.

Yeah, i meant the same, as in they began about 4 years ago but they haven't been working flat chat on it the whole time.

I voted 0-1 years..

It only had 2 votes so I felt a bit bad.

It has no real chance in this poll - and I always back the underdog.

The hobo! It looked exactly the same, the guy that many stupid people said it was Niko.

I think they started slow and long development after six months after release of GTA IV and went into full development after max payne 3 was completed (after GTA V first trailer) and now its going to release in between march and may in 2013 like all the other games. You know how it is.......... biggrin.gif

I believe after GTA IV Rockstar North went into fulltime development of Agent and intended it to be their next game. I think development continued on that until early 2010 before they decided to instead start making GTA V. So at this point, I think the game has been in development almost 3 years.

Summarizing much and missing a lot of things on the way, could be something like this.

From fall 2008 to fall 2009; Preproduction. Early South california sketches.

The Rockstar team travels around california picking up some South Cali styles and the Houser brothers (with more people) writting the script (I guess the script was started by early/mid 2009 and finished by early/mid 2010).

From Late 2009 to mid 2010; Production. The ballad of gay Tony is released(fall 2009) and the game goes to production.Developers at North (some developers, there is many working with R* San diego helping to finish RDR) begin their work making early character versions and an early version of the map,cities...etc

Mid 2010 to now; Fullproduction. RDR is released and the Rockstar North developers who were collaborating with R* San diego to finish the game go back to GTA V. The engine it´s being built in parallel with the game.

The characters casting begins,as well as the music´s search for the radio stations. By mid 2011 some rumors hint the next destination, "modern day LA " and a release in fall 2012 .

On october 25,2011 Rockstar announce offically the game.Rockstar works hard to launch the game in October 2012.

At some point between November 2011 and spring 2012 they decide delay the game until early 2013...and here we are.

I think early R&D started even before GTA 4 released.GTA 4 engine coding started in 2004-the same year SA released. At this time they will be working very hard to polish the game.May be there is some technical problems witch postponed their projected release window.

in 2009 they stated they working on a script already, which contained about 1000 pages. Ye, can still remember some sh*t like that.

Haha, I love how people (in numerous threads) lately have been saying "They're probably busy polishing the game now" .

I remember.. 2 months after the trailer had been released, people said the exact same thing, it's really funny haha..

I think in the back of our minds, we all want Rockstar to finish the game and just release it already, so we tell ourselves they're busy finishing the game.

They were polishing the game, they've probably been polishing V for 18-24 months, guaranteed.

I think 2008/2009.

Rockstar advertised for game testers in January 2011. It's been 8 months now and it was only for a 12 month contract.

I think the game is currently at a VERY late stage and due to be released in the next 4-8 months.

IF they started brain storming the script immediately after the release of IV, then It will have technically been in development for four years now. It's still taking a f*cking long time though....I'm losing hype by the week, luckily I have enough hype to last until December.

After the GTA:SA was released they made a plan up to 10 years, which involved all the games they are going to produce.

So, they mothafakin' know what they are going to produce in 2020.

Where the heck that kind of information came out? - It is so with all kind of businesses. If you have a little knowledge about companies, you know that they have to have a plan, to competite other companies, that produce the same production.

Even R* workers dont know what they are doing.

Can I lay a side bet that Zee will pop into this thread specifying either 0-1 year or 1-2 years?

I thought they probably started about September 2011, made some quick progress on a few prototype designs that looked really good, declared they were in "fulll development" and they got so enthusiastic that they created a trailer and published it. Then, reality set in, and they saw that it would be another 3 years of development....thus the ambiguous marketing that we have seen. smile.gif At least, that's the most charitable explanation I have for the marketing distaster.
