max payne 3 neglect due to GTAV?

I play MP3 on a daily basis, and the multiplayer happens to be a lot of fun, but the main problem is that it suffers from connection glitches and freezing. If they can ever get the online running smoothly, i would consider it to be GREAT. The OFFLINE story mode is excellent, so overall, i think the game was another great title from Rockstar.

Unfortunately, they simply took TOO long to develop MP3, and whatever steam they had gathered with their initial announcement, was lost over time due to lengthy delays. It also didn't help that they OVER promoted the game. I felt like i knew everything that the game had to offer by the time it was finally released. I'm a big fan of the Max Payne series, so it didn't deter me from getting it, but i could see how the average gamer could have had enough of all the hype. It's unfortunate because it really IS a great game, and whatever negative reputation it's received is mostly from GTA fans. I think it's no coincidence that Rockstar has been much different with their approach to marketing GTAV. Less is more, and they've CLEARLY stated that they don't want to reveal too much. Also, they haven't given a firm release date, which is probably the best decision considering their history of experiencing delays. Why announce anything until you know for sure?

I have to admit I love MP3, but the MP wasn't as addicting as GTA IV or RDR. Though I put that down to being a shooter. Run and gun gets boring after a while IMO.

RDR especially has the best MP I've ever experienced.

If you've been playing max payne 3's multiplayer, you probably know it has been a disappointment in terms of Rockstar standards. Multiple bugs, connection errors, the social club crews sloppyness, but over the last two weeks, they have gone silent. No updates on dlc, no news of much needed repairs to the crews leader boards and stat tracking, not to mention the Payne thresholds had a weekly topic on the newswire, but haven't recently even though they don't work properly. Is all this neglect due to an "all hands on deck" request by Rockstar to get the employees ready for the big news?

I don't know much about this stuff, so feel free to set me straight!

This happened to Driver San Francisco. It was fantastic to play online. In fact it was by a big margin the best online racer I'd played. But the developer just kind of let it go way too soon. They promised regular playlist and route changes but delivered none of it. After a month or two it was deserted.

I'm surprised that this might be the case with Max Payne 3 though. Rockstar support RDR's multiplayer to this day (game with devs etc). I think COD is the best example of how to do it right. They support that game right up to the end, so players stick with it.

I doubt GTA V has anything to do with it though.

The thing about that is they only have 2 or 3 updates spread out over a year... you do have a fall back if you dont want to buy the DLC, there is always a large amount of people playing on old maps too. That really comes down to how large the fan base is for COD, not support from the developer.

You know that you didn't have to read Newswire, right? If there was going to be any GTA V news, it'd be all over the internet within seconds of it appearing on Newswire. And I'm sure MP3 fans would've appreciated the lack of spam in the comments section too.

It's a bit sad isin't it? MP3's multiplayer had the potential to be the next big thing but they made some very stupid descisions, like having a RPG as a primary weapon so now every game is a RPG spam-fest which causes the game to crash frequently.

Another huge mistake was splitting the player base into free aim and soft lock when they knew the majority would take the easy way out and not budge from soft-lock section. What they should have done was make soft-lock strictly for beginners and after level 20 boot them into free aim. The game really becomes fun in free aim it's a shame no one wants to be challenged.

I haven't played MP3 online, unfortunately. Judging by what I've read & the videos I've seen, it has so many elements that aren't even in the SP campaign. Like throwing grenades, weapon modification etc. So after such a protracted development, I'd expect that part to be smooth as butter. Then again I don't know much about online multiplayer.

You can discuss this here ate the Payne forums. This whole discussion turned far away from GTAV.
