I have an Xbox One and that's it, so I can't play any of the older DA games or any of the Elder Scrolls games. Really my only choice for playing an RPG is this game and The Witcher 3 when it comes out which I'm excited for.

I don't know. I feel like Witcher 3 will be the better game when it's all said and done. I like how the camera is closer to Geralt compared to Dragon Age where your camera is a lot farther from you. I like when the camera is as close as possible to you. Feels more immersive.

I put 26 hours in so far and i'm not even halfway trough the main story. Still not bored at all. This game is huge and very fun.

Havent played DAI yet. but to me the Witcher series felt more real and solid. Be it 1 or 2, both games feel like real games. way better than any DA i've played. in every aspect. story, characters, combat.. environment and atmosphere... Witcher stories beats all the Elder Scrolls stories for me. im more exited about W3 than playing DAI. that being said i've been hearing good things about DAI but have yet to try it out myself to be sure. in Witcher you feel like there's been a lot of effort in developing the game. where in DA it feels sometimes generic.

Not sure about GOTY, but I'd definitely award it Most Quickly Cracked Uncrackable DRM of The Year that's for sure. Ah will software corporations ever learn?

It looks alright, I almost can't believe these are Frostbite graphics.

they're both RPGs but Dragon Age has always been a very different game than Witcher.

I wouldn't compare them to each other based on characters or the style of action.

I've played DA Origins, DA2, Witcher, and Witcher 2 AoK.

loved all of them except for DA2 and that was ultimately the fault of lazy world design and poor mapping rather than the gameplay itself.

Witcher tries to tell a much tighter story with more stable characters.

Dragon Age gives you much more free reign over how the story and characters develop. but they provide you with large, relatively open worlds to explore at your own pace. DA requires strict teamwork, Witcher requires strict planning and foresight. having played each of them, it's safe to say that they feel very distinct from one another.

I'm 20 hours into the game and still feel like I barely even scratched the surface of this game.

I'm really loving it so far! The world is HUGE. Really this is a great improvement from Dragon Age 2 that only had one city and one dungeon. I'm really digging the story and setting.

One thing I really love about this game is the giant monsters you faced. They absolutely feel like what giant monsters should be, fearsome and challenging. I tried going up against a giant early on but nope, he smashed my whole party to pieces.

And the appearance of a certain character from Dragon Age 2,

Hawke just made me giggle like a little girl. Seeing her in all the current-gen glory just tingles a feeling in my heart.

Only complaint about this game that I have would be the friendly AI tactics. The HOLD POSITION command applies not individually but to all party members which I really hate. I just want to send my warrior character charging through the battlefield dammit with Varric, Solas and Sera backing me up from far.

Had this game on my desk for 2 weeks already unopened, this downtime on PSN and reading the last few posts have made me finally open it up... so I'll bite :p

Also it's on sale right now for 38$ I believe on PSN (though obviously no one can access it yet) so just a heads up if it ever goes back up, deal ends on the 29th.

Yeah, I saw that. Just after I paid 70 Euro for it

Apparently I'm now on 35 hours in and haven't explored anything apart from the first big area and a town that comes after that. I think the game counts pause-time though, so that number might be a bit exaggerated. Even still, there are so many side quests, it's ridiculous.

I haven't touched this game in weeks because I'm waiting for them to patch it some more.

Right now I can't complete my specialization because the game bugged out when I got an item related to it. I also can't accept certain quests from NPCs and everyone's hair and face are shiny like they poured oil all over themselves.

It took Bioware 3 weeks to send out the first patch... 2 weeks later they haven't released a second patch to fix more of the bugs that are persisting. But it's okay. It let's me play more Elite: Dangerous and other games I picked up this Steam Sale.

Luckily I haven't noticed anything apart from occasional hickups/short freezes in Haven. Hopefully they at least patched out that particular bug, it sounds nasty.

I was starting to get a bit fed up with the numerous fetch quests, then this happened (very slight dialogue spoiler):

dont concetrate on one area, some quest open up after you progress thru the story. im sure you are farther along now, but dont compare each land/area you get to venture to, to the hinterlands. i think the hinterlands has the most quests or 2nd most. but places like the follow mire (literally took an hour too beat every quest there) or Val Royeaux ( i have had only 5 quest that pertain to the city but all the quest come at diffrent times and some are because of a love interest) they dont take that long too beat. i havent finished the game or even know how far i am into it. but i havent seen a quest in some of those cities for a long while

Wait.. you cant play this on a 32bit? only 64? sh*t... oh man why, i really wanted to play this.

I feel like an idiot not knowing this until now. i even replayed Origins and 2 in prepare for this. been playing them for the past 2 weeks. i was so f*cking stoked and into the goddamn story. i guess 32bit cant handle it?

So is 32 bit old news now or what? are all these new games going to be like this? im sh*t at stuff like that.

Still pissed though. i wanted to do the series all together. now i have to f*cking wait until i upgrade or something.

nvm. from what i read, it seems pretty easy. just have to get a 64 bit disk and do a clean install. cause mine only supports 32. hate the process of backing everything up though.. woot! im stoked again.

Took almost 90 hours for me to complete the story + all non collectible missions. It can get a bit tedious if you're not super invested in the game since a lot of them are just the usual RPG filler. And for a Bioware game this was a pretty weak story, but then I'm not that sold on Dragon Age as a world either.

Is it not on par with the story of Origins?

Not quite. I really liked it but the final 3rd or so loses a lot of momentum and that's not usually something you'd say about Bioware games.

DAI is outstanding in so many other ways that you'll never even notice the soundtrack.

I've actually got music turned off as I prefer the sound effects.

I'm 100 hours in and still can't kill any dragon I find (playing on Hard). Is that supposed to be a thing or do I just suck balls?

100 hours isn't very much with a game like this, especially if you've watched all dialogue/cut scenes.

how far into the game are you? what level are you?

you can't even kill the dragon in Hinterlands?

it's basically the easiest one, since it's usually the first dragon most players will encounter.

Yeah, every now and then I go back there to try. I believe I'm level 14 and unlocked character specializations. I'm mostly running with Blackwall as a tank, Bull and the main character as damage dealers and Dorian as support. The last time I tried was yesterday, I switched Bull out for Cassandra, but she doesn't have high level gear. Don't know if that mattered though, we all got wiped out before I could take 1/5th of the Dragon's health bar.

Yeah, I am a bit OCD, but dropped reading books and notes a long time ago. I basically just pick them up now for the XP. Sometimes all the dialog and text get in the way of "gameplay" a little bit (used quotation marks because I know for some people reading lore and conversing with NPC's is an important part of the gameplay). I like my roleplay aspects, but this game just takes it to a whole other level... I still do all the sidequests though.

see I knew it.

if you're playing on Hard, you're probably still not quite ready to face it, even after 100 hours.

you should have specializations chosen for your party and be at least a couple levels higher than the dragon.

on Easy or Normal you should have no trouble with dragons @ your same level (assuming your gear is better than Common, at least tier 2). but on Hard or above you need to focus on preparation before major encounters; full potions and tonics, grenades, weapons and armor enchanted/upgraded.

Alright, cool. I haven't really bothered with potions and grenades (or tactical view) because I've been getting by fine through the rest of the game without those things. I'll level up some more and step up my game. Thanks :^:

are you able to kill giants?

they're a pretty good test before you get to dragons.

Yeah, don't seem to have much trouble with those. It's fine, I just didn't expect it to take that long. With most RPG's you're usually pretty strong after 100 hours.
