taidgh
I guess it's a North American thing. In most countries, a state refers to any country with a government.

Never heard anyone call Mexico a state. Yeah technically it can be called a state, but really? Most call is a country and it would be simple to just keep it that way. taidgh
I guess, I just don't see why everyone's complaining. If the UK's a state, and Japan's a state, why wouldn't Mexico be a state? I mean they are pretty f*cked up with the cartel violence atm, but they're still a functioning state.
JoeJoeMcTwist
They are not states, they are countries. A state is subdivision of a government. Mexico and US both have states in them but are not states themselves. it's incorrect to refer to them that way. Look it up in the dictionary. Triple Vacuum Seal
I know this is getting way off topic; but... The term "state" is used to decribe a region within a nation in some cultures (including the American culture ). However, using the term "state" to refer to a nation is accurate as well; so some of you guys are raging a bit here. Source: Human Geography course. Gtaplayaminigun
It's a storyline that practically writes itself: Logan Heights is the most notorious Hispanic street gang in San Diego. With over 400 soldiers, the gang outnumbers all of their enemies combined. Logan Heights makes its money selling marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines on the streets of the city. The gang has a storied history as the hit squad for one of the most feared drug organizations in the world? The Tijuana Cartel. Beginning in the early 90's, Logan Heights gang members began working as assassins for the Cartel. The deadly pairing is responsible for one of the most shocking murders in Mexican history. Thanks for that video link. I'd love to see gangs like that in V.
herounderfireza
I would say probably not since LA is pretty far from Mexico, but they could shift things around. Good argument, but Las Vegas is further away from Las Angeles than the border of Mexico is. I also had the idea of Mexico, it would give a lot of missions to do. To the statement that it would be a cliche, I think not. Sadly I've been bored a bit lately with missions in GTA. There is always a robbery etc., they just do it a bit differently. Not to mention that you've always done some sort of work for a mafia leader. Maybe this time you might work for the Mexican cartels or something in that line. If they were to include Mexico, then I would also want them to include San Diego. Even if it's only a part, or a very small town/city right before the border. It would be kind of wacky for them to include Mexico, when it's a short drive from Los Santos. I still enjoy Rockstar because of their realism. I am that kind of person. I like something to be as realistic as possible. EDIT I want to add that it's correct to refer to a country as a state. South Africa is a "sovereign state" etc. It was the United States, Germany, Mexico etc. (meaning countries which has a Federal government), who named their provinces/regions as "States". Believe it or not, and this is to all those uneducated people, before the United States of America existed, every region (Republic of Texas etc.) was a sovereign state . So if you have the argument that how can Nigeria be a state if California is a state? Then it is true because in essence (and this is really putting it as simple as possible), the United States of America was different sovereign states that unified. From Wikipedia: Blog del Narco is a blog that documents events and people of the Mexican Drug War. MSNBC described Blog del Narco as "Mexico's go-to Web site on information on the country's drug war." Additionally, The Houston Chronicle said that Blog del Narco is "a gritty, front-row seat to Mexico's drug war." The author spends four hours per day working on the website. To deal with the increased workload, he asked a friend to help him. In Mexico many traditional journalistic outlets received harassment due to stories they publish, so anonymous blogs like Blog del Narco have taken the role of reporting on events related to the drug war. The author, an anonymous computer security student in his 20s from northern Mexico, uses computer security techniques to obscure his identity. His anonymity has been maintained. When he conducted an interview with the Associated Press, he used a disguised telephone number. Nate Freeman of The Observer said "his facelessness allowed him get away with stories that would endanger known journalists..." The Guardian and Los Angeles Times noted that Blog del Narco is a response to Mexico's "narco-censorship," a term used when reporters and editors of the Mexican Drug War, out of fear or caution, are forced to either write what the drug lords demand, or remain silent by not writing anything at all. If they do not comply with what the drug cartels demand, the journalists may be kidnapped, intimidated, or even killed. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, 51 journalist have been killed in Mexico between the years 2000 and 2011. The National Human Rights Commission, however, reported that 74 journalists had been killed during that time. With the growing violence of the Mexican Drug War, media watchdogs have considered Mexico to be one of the most dangerous countries in which to be a journalist. http://www.blogdelnarco.com Blog del Narco can be translated into English by pasting its url into Google Translate. http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=e...delnarco.com%2F

herounderfireza
Yeah, but in this case it's really legit How about this source then: http://geography.about.com/cs/politicalgeo...statenation.htm There it's being explained very well.. "There are currently 196 independent countries or States around the world." So both terms states and countries are correct.. no need for change of the title, just because country seems to be more appropriate. But to be honest I would call it countries, too.. it can be confusing, especially for US citizens. It just seems confusing to us Americans to call another country a state since we call ourselves the United STATES of America. What we commonly call state is closer to what others call a providence (not completely the same thing, but in this arguments sake, still a small governed area within a larger governed area.) So for us to call Mexico a state (especially when discussing an American state like California in this conversation) feels like someones trying to incorrectly imply it's a part of ''the states''....even though that not what you are trying to imply at all. It just reads that way when your conditioned to think of a state as a smaller part of a country. In summary, it's a perspective thing. It's correct but it feels so wrong for some of us to call it that. OT: I hope the border makes it in the game, but as long as the map is huge and filled with variety I'll be fine. If it's a limited resource thing then my feelings won't be hurt by it's absence. Rather Mexico itself is there or not, Mexican cartels are a must! It wouldn't be present day SoCal without them. Sorry about the rambling. Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents Well that's what you get for trying to do stuff different than the rest of the world = confusion We will all remember to change our definitions in the future so that Americans also understand what we're talking about.. Bellic 4 life
Are my fellow countrymen and women really that dumb, that they don't look things up, and trust the abominable excuse for an educations system?
