Jewstinian
I'm planning on building a gaming computer since my current Pavilion p6142p isn't working out anymore (mainly because of the lack of being able to change neccesary things around and making me spend more than what it's worth to fix it on several occasions). I would like your feedback on how this build is looking out to be. My current budget is around $1,000 to $1,100. Keep in mind, this is for the whole nine yards except for a monitor since the 20in. one I have suits me just fine, so I spoiled it out*. I also followed all the tips on the forums and some external websites as well, just make it a bit more clarifying on the items I chose. Intel Core i5-2500K CPU Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Motherboard Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Graphics Card (This is the Overclocked version by the way) Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2x4 GB) RAM OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB Hard Drive Samsung DVD Burner Antec Three Hundred Two Gaming Case Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler Windows 7 Home Premium Razer Abyssus Gaming Mouse SteelSeries 6Gv2 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Cooler Master Storm QuickFire Pro Mechanical Keyboard *HP 20" Wide 1600X900 LCD Monitor As I said before, this is the whole nine yards. This is including the premium gaming mouse, keyboard and of course, pad. All of this totals out on Amazon to about $1,070, which is about £660 for the European forum-roamers. Do you guys think this is a train-wreck waiting to happen or an awesome deal and good set up for its price range? For the record, I'm sorry if there was some kind of rule on this, I looked at the pinned topics and didn't see anything of the nature . YankeesPwnMets
Here is what I got for $300 less than yours: Intel Core i5 3570K AMD Radeon HD 7850 Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler ASRock Z77 Pro3 Corsair TX 650 V2 PSU Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB Kingston HyperX 8GB RAM CoolerMaster HAF 912 Sorry dude, but I will never understand why some people spend so much money on a mouse or keyboard... personally, I've used a Corsair K60 and a Razar Taipan and I can't really tell a damn difference between a Dell USB keyboard and a Microsoft Wireless laser mouse.. Jewstinian
I just like the keyboard because of it's mechanical ability, it's really durable, and just has essentially normal key layouts. As for the mouse, I heard good things about it; I seem to get it off from there. You also have to remember, I bought Windows 7, which just adds another 90 dollars more, and is essentially mandatory. With the 3570K, sure it's an Ivy Bridge Processor, but the Sandy Bridge has no problem overclocking it's predecessor.
YankeesPwnMets
Yeah, but if I had to choose between dedicating 100+ towards a 7850/660/7870 instead of a mouse and keybaord, I would definitely choose the stronger graphics card. I have a list that totals out to 1097.91 with a i7 3770K and a GTX 660, along with a free $15 Newegg Gift Card. unfortunately it wouldn't fit your budget since it doesn't include non-essentials such as keyboard and mouse. Assuming you don't live in CA, TN or NJ you won't be charged tax for it and signing up for the Shoprunner trial takes off any shipping costs. I tried Shoprunner and its pretty decent... I live in NY, my stuff came from California, and I got free UPS 2nd Day Air shipping with it. It saved me $60 from having to upgrade from 3 day to 2 day delivery. SSD is of course optional, but after buying an SSD myself, I was blown away by it and I don't think I'll ever use a HDD as a boot drive again. Here's the list in case you wanna look at it http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=15485834 Edited September 17, 2012 by YankeesPwnMets
Finn 7 five 11
I agree with Yankee, that first build was a rip-off, the 7770 is a card you would use on a budget and you would find yourself wanting a new one pretty quickly. As for the Keyboard/Mouse, well there is barely any difference in keyboards i have found aesthetics and back-lighting are the things that bump up K/B price significantly, or if you need 100 macro keys for some reason. As for mouses, well there isn't much point spending loads on a mouse, maybe up to $50 is reasonable. Here is a Kick Ass beast of a PC, with a brilliant graphics card, miles ahead of the 7770 , with Sandy Bridge and Ivy bridge there isn't much difference, the Ivy Bridge is a little newer and it only costs $10 more and supports PCIE 3.0, but at this point 3.0 is useless, it's up to you, you seemed insistent on the Sandy Bridge so i added it. There is $40 worth of rebates and the $46 instant saving and most of the items have free shipping so if you purchase soon you save a very good chunk of money, Newegg is having a sale for some reason so i recommend purchasing from there, also you get a sleeping dogs coupon, i hear that game is brilliant. Case Cooler Master Haf 912 Case - $79.99 $59.99 (Your suggestion) HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM, 1.5 Terabytes -$89.99 $69.99 GPU MSI HD Radeon 7870Ghz Edition, 256Bit, 2GB Vram - $259.99 With $15 mail-in rebate + $50 sleeping dogs coupon. PSU Coolermaster 500 Watt with 2 x 12V @ 2.3 rails. - $52.99 $39.99 With a $10 Mail in Rebate MEMORY Kingston 2 x 8GB @ 1600Mhz - $39.99 MOBO MSI Z77, USB 3.0, PCIE 3.0 (Ivy B Only). - $176.99 With a $15 Mail in Rebate Sandy Bridge i5 2500k- $219.99 Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium - $99.99 Total sum with instant saving = $966.62 Total sum with $40 mail in rebates = $926.62 All up you have then about 180 bucks for your mouse and keyboard which is a sh*tload of money for Keyboard and mouse, Also this took me a while to piece together so please give me some feedback, if it's too expensive tell me how much i need to cut back in $, because i can downgrade the mobo, save $5 on the RAM and downgrade the GPU if required. I tell you what though, this is a bargain, cash in quick because you save almost $100 with this newegg sale, and even more if you add in the free shipping they're offering. yoječ
I'd go for another power supply, CM eXtreme Power is a very outdated design that can't deliver those 500W. IMHO not a good deal even after the rebate. And it doesn't have 2x PCIe connectors. This one might be more suitable: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817371030
Finn 7 five 11
Well swap out the one i posted and put in the Antec, i know you know your stuff yoyo so i am happy for corrections, that leaves about $160 for Keyboard and Mouse.
Jewstinian
@finn4life Is there any GTX cards that match the price point of the 7870 and perform better? Also, I'm not too strong on the HAF case. Would it be a total wreck to just buy the Antec 302 case or a Corsair case? Overall, I like the build you showed me! @yojo2 Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Since I saw CM on the trusted list, I thought I'd give it a go. @YankeesPwnMets I really like the system you set up with me. Though, with the K & M, if I get just something like an MK260 (which is just a 20 dollar keyboard and mouse) would you say that's a decent mouse and keyboard? Edit: fourth time editing this, must mean I'm super hyped for a new computer then. Edited September 17, 2012 by TheJustinAllenK
Prometheus
There's the GTX 660, but I think the 7870 is slightly better for gaming. As for the PSU, if you're planning to Crossfire, you'll need at least a 600W PSU, with 39 amps rating or more, according to AMD.
Jewstinian
Using most, if not all, of your advice, I got a really nice PC for about 1,060 dollars, which is right in the middle of my budget. Samsung DVD Burner (don't know if people meant to leave this out, but I need this to even install Windows..) Cooler Master HAF 912 Seagate Barricuda 1.5TB Drive EVGA Superclocked GTX 660 (Chose this because it's slightly cheaper than the 7870, and I heard good things about the GTX 600 series) Antec NEO 520w Power Supply Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4) RAM Z77A-GD65 or something Motherboard Intel Core i5 3570k CPU Cooler Master 212+ (Chose this because I plan on overclocking the CPU, and I don't really like liquid coolers too much) Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) K120 Basic Keyboard Razer Abysuss (stood with this because it's under 50 bucks, and seems to fit my 'claw' grip of the mouse) Mouse Pad This looks like a really good deal. If anyone has any other suggestions, you have plenty of time. I'm not going to buy it until next week, when I have all the money for it. YankeesPwnMets
For my build, you can swap out the i7 3770k for an i5 3570K and get a stronger video card. However, if you are one of those people who run a ton of multithreaded apps I would just keep the i7 for its 8 threads. If you don't need an SSD, you can save an additional $70 there and replace it with whatever accessories you want. Here is a second choice that includes an i5 3570K and a GTX 670, with no SSD included and no i7, which saved $170 towards the video card http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=25180627 Edited September 17, 2012 by YankeesPwnMets
Jewstinian
I appreciate it, Yankee, but I'm going to end up sticking with my 2500k. On second thought, I'm gonna go with the 3570K, it uses less power and since it's slightly newer, I'm going to try it out. With the SSD, I may update in the future, but for now, I'm going to keep it out of my budget. Edited September 17, 2012 by TheJustinAllenK

Yeah the GTX 660 is pretty much the same as the 7870, a little behind, but not by much, i put the 7870 because currently it is discounted by like $20. My only gripe with the 660 that you selected is that it is only single fan, i read some reviews on newegg and they mentioned that it's great for blowing air out the back of the case and it runs quietly. But it can get a little warmer than other cards. As for the HAF912, i only chose that because i saw Yankees suggestion for it and confused it with your own and thought it was yours, go with the antec if that's your preference. Just saying though, i would buy really soon before those price-cuts go back up and put you out of budget.

Unfortunately, I'm not getting my check until the end of the week, which will give me just enough money to cover me paying my part in the bill, and buying that monstrosity of a PC. I don't want to spend any more than 1100 because I'm only going to be gaming on one monitor, and buying a computer any stronger than what was suggested is just out of line for me. @Stinky12 I don't like all the extra buttons. I would like to buy the Abyssus because of it's toggle switches, which really do help my gaming experience. I felt my friend's and knew I wanted one. YankeesPwnMets
Well, I own a HAF 912 and I like it because: It isn't a monster like the 932 and X It's fairly cheap, around $30 cheaper than the 922 It doesn't look like crap HAF = High Air Flow Since I had an H60, I mounted the Corsair fan on the back and use the side fan as an exhaust (since I have no exhausts but two intakes) and I can feel it pull warm air away from the GPU when its under load.. JustinAllen, great build, much better than the overpriced thing you first mentioned. Hopefully your new PC will last for many years. The four year old (closing on 5) i7 920 and GTX 280 can still run most games today... I expect in 4 years your rig (and mine) will still be able to run most games as well. About liquid coolers, I've heard about coolers leaking, but I don't worry about it one bit because in all the stories I've read, Corsair will refund you for the ENTIRE system at the price you originally bought it. Say in 3 years my H60 leaks and destroys my 7850. Instead of refunding me the retail price at that time (which might drop to around $100), they'll refund me the full $210 I paid. Corsair has great warranty support, so I'm not too worried about anything happening to my TX 650 or H60 Edited September 18, 2012 by YankeesPwnMets
Finn 7 five 11
End of the week should be fine, I meant like this month. Some people make topics for in 6 months when they have the cash.
