nooob123
My configuration: AMD Radeon HD 6770 1 GB AMD Athlon II x4 640 quad core 3.0 GHz 3 GB RAM Windows 7 32 Bit And i'm getting 20 FPS all the time, with rarely jumping to 25-26 fps,on medium settings. I know i don't have a monster PC, but i think i should be able to run game like this with atleast 30 FPS. This is the only game i had problems with, i could run almost all games on medium/high, like skyrim, withcer 2 , and on sleeping dogs which is also open world game like gta,but newer and looks a lot better, i get average 35 fps on medium/high settings with high res texture pack. EFLC, which i have on seperate disc run even worse. I may be wrong here but i think i had more fps about 2 months before, when i deleted game and reinstalled it again now. I tried using programs which should help my PC improve performance, like ccleaner and simmilar programs, and i defragmented GTA IV folder, but it didn't help at all. What i also find strange is that i get exactly same performance on both 1920x1080 and 800x600 resolutions. I also tried tons of fixes i found on internet, from commandline changes to downloading some files but i always had exactly same FPS. I'm running the game on latest patch. so does anyone else know what could i try to do? this game is old, but it's the most demanding game i ever played on my PC, even runs worse than all of 2012 games Edited September 16, 2012 by nooob123

You're not supposed to update GTA IV to the latest patch unless you have a monster type PC. It's bad enough GTA IV was horribly optimized for PC, but for the latest patch (1.0.7.0) to cause the biggest FPS drops. Typically, people update GTA IV to 1.0.4.0. Reason being is that it's the furthest patch that won't drop your FPS like a f*cker, but to maybe add some FPS if I'm correct? Remove GTA IV, install it, upgrade it to 1.0.4.0. You should be getting more FPS when you do this.
mkey82
Kill the shadows, that should give you a decent FPS boost.

Try what I did first, then if the problem persists (which obviously shouldn't since you're on patch 1.0.7.0) then do what this guy said.

In my opinion it's the same case with the patches, where there's no way to determine which one works for everyone. For me, 1.0.7.0 gave me the best FPS boost.
