In all of my life as a gamer i've never seen so much anticipation for a game even when GTAV is mentioned it sends shivers down peoples spine people are commenting on the GTAV youtube page every 10 seconds the whole world is waiting for GTAV

That's correct, people that think Black Ops 2 will outsell GTA V are realy deluded, who gives a f*ck if more kids will buy CoD? GTA is way way more popular worldwide, much more adults will buy it over CoD that's for sure, people just don't realise how popular GTA is, for example, GTA is the best-selling game franchise of all-time in the Middle east despite it being "banned" there, stores don't give a sh*t and they still sell it because the demand for it is simply insane, nobody gives a sh*t if people aren't that interested in GTA V right now, once a 2nd trailer is released and a release date is revealed the hype for V will be through the roof, the whole game industry will be focusing on it.

 

If GTA V got released on the game day as CoD it will sell twice as much, i'm not kidding, just go to N4G for example or any popular gaming site, not that much people are interested in CoD, GTA news are always "Top Story" where CoD's never get remotley close.

I think that's because not many COD players are "hardcore" gamers. A lot of them just buy the game because everyone else is buying it. I was talking to a friend the other day who's not really that much into gaming, she pretty much confirmed it; she said she wasn't sure about buying Blops 2 because she thought no one would buy it this year. GTA does have those people, too, though, but they've got a huge advantage with "hardcore" gamers. Let's wait and see what happens.

I'm amazed that people who buy every CoD game, purchase their Elite thingy & play online on a regular basis, don't get franchise fatigue. To a lesser extent Assassins Creed as well. I'm not saying they aren't quality products. They just don't justify a new game every god damn year & with only minor improvements.

the only reason i would play COD is for trolling and just some random arcade action.. and also zombies

and i think you miss the point of AC, the reason why AC is still the best game series for me( even better than GTA or mass effect series) is not because of graphic or gameplay mechanics upgrades, sure those would be great upgrades but the main reason im so hyped and glued to the series is because of its amazing storyline. in every AC game( even brotherhood and revelations which were more like DLCs) their ending always make me hyped for the next game. that and fun killing and parkour action plus amazing storyline, amazing fighting mechanics and beautiful soundtrack

Ok I love AC as much as the next guy but it is not better then GTA. I have all the AC games, am a huge fan of the story lines, crazily anticipating ACIII, but GTA still rules all.

CoD's selling streak is no more. With GTA V around the corner it will sell 3 times as many copies than CoD BOII no doubt. And as soon as I saw the trailer of CoD BOII, i instantly thought to myself, "this will lag so much, it will fail on the first day". CoD died after MW1, and it is now been overrated ever since

 

And for some reason with GTA V, I get this kind of Vice City feel to it, even though it isn't set in Vice City

If I were to take an educated guess, I would say It's because many people thought GTA IV was a complete bust (which couldn't be further from the truth) & their worried that Rockstar might be on the same path. Being a dedicated fan for many years, I personally think that each GTA that's been released, has chronologically gotten better & better. Despite the lack of features in IV, I still believe It's the best GTA to date. Very anxious to see what Rockstar's got cooking up. 

I don't really think there is a "best GTA." You can have your favorite, but each one is unique on its own. I always didn't like how with each GTA we got, something was added, or something was taken away. Here's my analogy. GTA is a fraction of a deck of cards, and each card is a feature or idea for the game. There is a full deck with all of these features, ideas, characters - everything. But they just throw the pile up in the air and only take some of the cards and apply them to the fraction deck.

 

We never have a GTA with every feature there ever was; a "full" GTA with everything we loved. But I swear I saw this in an interview, Rockstar does this on purpose. It's what gives every game its unique feeling. Each of them get progressively better in general, but each is special in it's own way. They're true sequels. You can play one and love it, and you can play another and love it - but still have a completely different feel from the last.

 

This is what I love about GTA. Each game is fresh and different from the last, and always has something the others won't - so there is still a reason to play it.

I was wondering where that analogy was going but I got what you meant by the end. The GTA franchise isn't about piling one feature on top of the other until it becomes an unguided mess.

 

That was the big problem when they started with a new generation. People expected everything from San Andreas plus more. That's why them calling it GTA V is the most intriguing thing about the game. We really don't know why yet, because the trailer & screens haven't shown us anything that hasn't been seen in a previous installment (except the tennis). What this new direction is can only be hinted at for the time being.

Yeah, I'd say that's my top three upcoming games & in that order. Although I still don't have a PS3, I hope there is a price drop on the Slim, when the Ultra Slim is released soon. I've even bought Blu-Ray movies that were a bargain but nothing to play them on.

I hate COD for only one reason-it destroyed single player in every other game as other developers started to pay over importance to multiplayer by copying COD success formula.There are millions of gamers in Asian and African countries who don't have the bandwidth to play online multiplayer.As long as GTA V single player is long and good i didn't care about how rich and entertaining is the multiplayer.

I stopped playing COD 3 years ago because, by that time, I had gone off the 'on-rails' type of game play. And I didn't like small like the small multiplayer maps. I prefer the freedom of movement in the GTA single and multiplayer games.

In this case the relationship between Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto is like the relationship between Apple and Samsung. Apple is a mainstream market and for people who say "Apple is the most expensive brand and so automatically the best brand and it has the best technique!!! I know Apple since years and it's the best!!!". People who have some technical knowledge would never buy Apple. NEVER. I don't buy any hardware from Apple because I know I can get the same hardware with the same quality for 25-50% less money (Samsung). Apple is expensive not because of the incredible quality but because of the brand name and because of the allegedly expensive OS. Samsung is in my opinion not any worse and way cheaper. Call of Duty is a brand that everybody knows and the mainstream knows what to expect (nothing new!) so it's automatically a good game. Grand Theft Auto is way older game series but it doesn't have a sequel every year. The quality of all the games in this series is outstanding and for this it needs it time in the development. Grand Theft Auto has a lot hardcore gamer but the casual gamer are sceptical because every game in this series is in its way completely different. That's very good but the casual gamer aren't as optimistic as we are and they don't wait for a specifically game like we all do. The last GTA was released 3 years ago (GTA EfLC) or 4 years ago (GTA IV). The casual gamer don't know GTA as good as CoD. I think if the real full-blown marketing campaign of GTA V starts then casual gamer will know from this game and buy it on release day or at least release week.

If all they wanted was money, they could release a GTA every year, or every 2 years & make an absolute mint but at the cost of quality.

 

I only slag off companies who unashamedly rip off their customers with yearly franchises (CoD & Ass Creed) or have on disc dlc (Capcom). Basically any company that tries to nickel & dime their customers. As soon as R* start with those shoddy practices, I'll be first to lay into them.

Sorry but I beg to differ here. R* does care about and wants money. It's a business. Sure they want to deliver a quality game but after all, it shall sell and bring in more money.

Alright, but that's another thing. How do that? R* is obviously a monopoly. The GTA franchise is a monopoly. As long as it remains that way, R* could take their time and release another GTA V trailer in 6 months. How shall players react? By NOT buying the final game? Hell, everyone will get their hands on GTA V.

Of course rockstar fanboys and call of duty fanboys come into this. But if you read carefully you would notice not everyone is only talking about COD.

And to be more on topic: rockstar gets so much pressure from fans because they put out fantastic games with great replay value. Red dead redemption might have been a success. Max payne 3 not so much, but Grand theft auto always was a success. People simply want this franchise to continue and set new standards!
