I Luke
Because they take the piss. We understand the game won't come out anytime soon after the trailer, so why the f*ck release it so early and make everyone pissed when we want some more info? The reason why it gets pressured or is around everywhere you go is because it's their biggest franchise yet it seems they don't give a flying f*ck. junkpile
Can be many reasons like it's already been 4 years and more since the last GTA and well, because it is GTA. This franchise is second to none. But another reason why everyone wants GTA V so bad is probably because people expect another "San Andreas". Despite all GTA titles are fantastic in their own way, it was San Andreas which sold the most and was over the top in many aspects and brought in variety. Even though I prefer GTA IV over San Andreas, I can see how players think GTA IV is a step backwards since it reduces the game to some basics and leaves out features which were present in SA. As for GTA V, it looks like everything which was missing in GTA IV comes back. Looks like a San Andreas with (much) better graphics.
Lock n' Stock
Because nowadays, GTA is more popular than ever. We waited years for GTA V to be announced and when the trailer came out, we found out it was pretty much going to be San Andreas reborn.
kudoboi
GTA V for me isn't as important in my life as it used to be. I will still buy the game, but it isn't number one on my most wanted list of games to buy Just out of interest, what are your top three games for the next 6 months? 1. AC3 2. hitman absolution 3. GTA V
Gtaghost22
I'm still pretty confident GTA V will sell less across all platforms than Black Ops 2. LOL. Tell you what, i will stop posting on this forum for a feull month if GTA V didn't sell way more Black Ops 2. Pre-order numbers for Black Ops 2 are less than the first one and MW3, and it's even less than Halo 4 which is quite pathetic seeing as Halo 4 is an exclusive and CoD is multiplatform. CoD: MW3 (only been out about 10 - 11 months) has sold almost 10 million more units across just PS3 and XBox 360 than GTA IV which is going on 4 years old. Same situation will happen. The install base for consoles right now is 3.5x more than it was in 2008, and still MW3 manged to sell only 5 million more copies than IV (f*ck VGC, Rockstar confirmed IV sold 24 million copies not 19). GTA IV was released in 2008, where only about 40-45m consoles were available and it still managed to sell 20+ (90% of those copies were sold in 2008/9) million copies which means almost 50% of video gamers at that time bought it, there is 143 million consoles available now (69m PS3s, 73m 360s) and crappy MW3 barely outsold IV by 5 million copies haha, less than 20% of console owners bought it. If GTA V got released this gen (duh!) and 40-45% of video gamers bought it just like IV, it will sell 60-70m copies, see the big difference? Of course it won't reach those numbers but it will sell more than 35-40 (enough to crush CoD) million copies at least that's for sure. Jimbatron
everywhere i go, facebook, twitter, official rockstar site,...people are demanding gta v. i have never seen something like that. rockstar didn't get pressured this much when it was vice city, san andreas or gta 4 or episodes from liberty city. why is everyone THIS mad for gta 5? rockstar releases news for upcoming multiplayer events in red dead redemption, gta 4 and max payne 3 but the majority of people ignores that and keeps demanding gta 5. It's because their marketing strategy works brilliantly.. The sooner people come to grips with the fact that not releasing any info IS the strategy, the sooner we can move on. Well if a strategy that results in a huge amount of fans losing respect for their company is a marketing move that works brilliantly, I sure am living in a back to front world. The two posts sum it up in a nutshell. The secretive marketing strategy is intentional, of that I have no doubt. However, it is a fine line between generating speculation and hype, and pissing people off by dangling carrots only to whisk them away for another few months. I'd say they went too far with EFLC on the PC when the achievements appeared on GFWL and they refused to say anything for months. GTA V seems to be bubbling away nicely. However, if there is no major news before Christmas my personal feeling is they will have dragged it out too long and people will start to get disafffected. WastedEngland
The GTA series is big money. Big, big money. Rockstar are known for making high quality games, putting time and thought into their games and not releasing them yearly followed with small insignificant DLC's and multitudes of day-one retailer unlockables. This 'marketing' people think is going is not needed, not at all. I'm willing to bet there would be just as much hype surrounding this game if we had regular (but not overexposed) information, screens and features. This blackout is a poor execution of marketing and hype building, starving someone for a week just to give them a roast dinner on the Sunday seems like the ideal way to appear like a savior but as they're the ones willingly starving us it's nothing more than neglect. On the contrary, as I've said in another topic before if this is how Rockstar wants to conduct their marketing then that's their choice. They actually don't owe us information and they don't have to give us any. Those who say that they do because you've bought their games and 'made them' are forgetting you gave them that money for that game, nothing more. If GTA V was to be announced as a cancelled project tomorrow, would Rockstar then owe you money? If they owe you then surely that'd be the case right? I think that makes my point. My opinion on Rockstar is starting to turn sour. They've made refreshing games, built up worthy franchises, made landmark titles and set themselves as one of the leading videogame companies. They maintain a social element with the newswire and social club and they take the time needed to produce deep, stellar titles rather than average ones every few months. Yet with this sh*tstorm that is this 'hype', the lack of a PC version of RDR despite how much it's desired and could potentially sell and the shambles over the PC port of GTA IV, fair enough they may not be trying to rob us blind like EA or Activision but they're certainly not treating us right. cp1dell
Because games where you kill people attract little kids because they think it's cool. They're the type of people who only play GTA because "lol, guns, ima badass i kill you homohomo" and fail to realize the great story and detail. So when you have a bunch of kids wetting their diapers over the next GTA, you get them demanding it as if they deserve it or something.

Cyfa
I think it's a mix of GTAs continued rise in popularity, and the fact R* gave us a trailer then vanished for months on end. As much as I think it's a terrible and manipulative marketing scheme, it seems to be working. The more you deny the fans what they want, the more frenzied they become. After all, 11 year old kids are a key demographic to them. Wow you're so edgy xD!!

Being a dedicated fan for many years, I personally think that each GTA that's been released, has chronologically gotten better & better. Despite the lack of features in IV, I still believe It's the best GTA to date. Very anxious to see what Rockstar's got cooking up. I don't really think there is a "best GTA." You can have your favorite, but each one is unique on its own. I always didn't like how with each GTA we got, something was added, or something was taken away. Here's my analogy. GTA is a fraction of a deck of cards, and each card is a feature or idea for the game. There is a full deck with all of these features, ideas, characters - everything. But they just throw the pile up in the air and only take some of the cards and apply them to the fraction deck. We never have a GTA with every feature there ever was; a "full" GTA with everything we loved. But I swear I saw this in an interview, Rockstar does this on purpose. It's what gives every game its unique feeling. Each of them get progressively better in general, but each is special in it's own way. They're true sequels. You can play one and love it, and you can play another and love it - but still have a completely different feel from the last. This is what I love about GTA. Each game is fresh and different from the last, and always has something the others won't - so there is still a reason to play it.

We are witnessing marketing history in the making. The industry will follow. It also sets the context to prepare us for the marketing of GTA6, which will consist of: -- One 30-second trailer of shaky, blurred quick cuts, -- one nonsensical Epsilonism tweet, -- 4 years of stonewall silence, -- release of 3 motion-blurred, low depth-of-field screenshots, -- 2 more years of silence, -- then the actual release of GTA6.
