Why the hell would people want a Max Payne 3 kind of thing in GTA 5?

"Oh yeah, I'm doing a mission for my friend which involves me killing tons of bad guys in a cargo ship, too bad I can only carry 1 pistol with 30 rounds of ammo in it! Oh well"

No, f*ck that. GTA isn't realism, as some people seem to think.

I just bought RDR GOTY edition & I'm playing through Undead Nightmare for the first time. Does anyone know if the ability to change the weapon types by pressing left/right on the d-pad via the weapon wheel available in the original vanilla version?

Yes, that's also available in the epic retail version. Clearly you've never played it since you refer to it as vanilla.

This is what it seems like:

GTA IV: The Traditional Option

Red Dead Redemption: The Quick Option

Max Payne 3: The Realistic Option

I would much rather the traditional GTA weapon select. I don't need anything fancy like a weapon wheel and it's actually quote easy to just remember the order of your weapons, most people don't seem to get this though.

I voted the traditional way. It wouldn't feel the same if it weren't that way.

Not really. IV's way was slow and sloppy. Red Dead was quick and clean. Back then it was ok but now they need to change it. Even the hardcore people of the forums agree with me and say Red Dead's way needs to come into GTA V.

Well, RDR's is the best. Being able to access every weapon in every tier quickly and easily is nice.

GTA's traditional method also works well, but I wouldn't mind seeing it replaced with the weapon wheel.

Max Payne's weapon limitations? F*ck no.

I vote RDR's weapon wheel, though I wouldn't be upset if the traditional method returns.

I'm hoping the weapon variety of GTA V is as large as Red Dead Redemption. RDR had an expansive selection of weapons from the era.

Red Dead Redemption or Max Payne 3. However I wish there was a quick way to switch from your Rifle/SMG/LMG to your pistol.

Do people even realize GTA IV has a weapon quick select? dozingoff.gif RB + D-pad and each direction is a class of weapons so you can always easily switch between pistols, shotguns, smg/assault (double tap for assault rifle) and grenades. It already works almost like a weapon wheel, except it doesn't pop up on screen, which is my main gripe with weapon wheels like in RDR or MP3. They take you out of the game. Either the game keeps going and you have no control or visibility for a while or you get these annoying pauses in the action whenever you switch to another weapon. IV's (dual) system worked well without intruding on the game.. I guess they just need to make a better tutorial mission for it so people realize it's there.

Whoa we already have it on PC press .1 for Pistol, .2 for SMG, .3 for Shotgun..............and the cycle goes on.

MAX PAYNE 3 FTW

as a pc user, i prefer the old system. it is nice to remember how many times you scroll the mouse to reach a certain weapon, and theres the satisfaction of reaching the desired slot before niko even puts away his old weapon, and then he pulls out just the right one.

i don't know why so many people think its slow... its not.

I wasn't sure about the weapon wheel in RDR at first but it became really easy to use. I prefer it to the way GTA weapon selection works. I hope it's in V.

Well, we definitely can't be limited to two or three weapons like in Max Payne 3. GTA is an open world game, not a linear shooter. Between GTA IV and RDR's weapon selection, RDR's is far more intuitive so I'll have to go with that.

Why not? why not carry a bag or something like that, why not have a cheat to revert it, i think it will be like in RDR, i dont think they intended GTA 4 to have such an dull HUD.

Red Dead's wheel thing was the best weapon selection system I have ever seen in a game. Would love it if they brought it to GTA, it was fast as well, you wasnt constantly going left to right to find what your after.

I bought it a week after release but I sold it when I got the GOTY edition. I did however play through the whole game twice thinking you could only change the weapon wheel via the menu, so yeah I might be dumb.

I just thought 'vanilla' meant the original release of a game. As opposed to a reissued version like GTA IV/EFLC, RDR GOTY or L.A. Noire The Complete Edition.

@Mig10 I hope it's closer to MP3. The player could have the ability to store weapons in the trunk, bag or a suit case a la Hitman games. Whatever weapon you need is usually provided in the mission anyway. If you need a rocket launcher for a specific mission, it'll probably be there.

@Masterfocker If you started the mission with a handgun with 30 bullets that's your own damn fault. Besides, you can always pick up enemy weapons during a mission.

@unikunjerry on console it's pretty slow and tedious tapping on the d-pad 5 times to change one weapon. PC maybe, console not so good.

I don't want to be able to carry about 87 weapons in my pockets. It is totally unnecessary, not just unrealistic.

I would like us to have a weapon wheel with FOUR slots

So maybe I have allocated my AK47 as top slot and I carry this on back

Left slot I have a concealed pistol and right slot a concealed sub machine gun

Then Bottom Slot I have half dozen grenades

During a mission I could encounter a mounted machine gun and can use that, but I don't take it with me

Or I may find a Bazooka with a couple of rockets. I use it, drop it and move on.

I also think that we should NOT pick up ammo when move over a dropped enemy weapon, instead we can only choose to pick up and replace our current weapon.

So maybe you are running low on AK47 ammo, 34 bullets left only. You see a Carbine rifle that enemy dropped with 234 ammo, so you pick up and it replaces your AK47?

I would enjoy this much more

Red Dead Redemption. The weapon wheel was much more easy. Max Payne 3 also used this but was different. I prefer the way RDR had it and hope GTA V uses the same thing.

I'm quite the video game gun nut,so I'd say RDR style. It worked really well for me,without making the game too easy.Or it could be GTAIV style, after all, there was a quick swap button. I don't really care : RDR or GTAIV.

Max Payne's system seems alright. I'd prefer it over RDR and GTA IV's system but I doubt that will happen.

If GTA V's features many things from MAx Payne 3, the game would get somewhat obsolete, gameplay wise.

Everything in RDR was sleek and smart. From the weapons select to items select. It should be in V as well.

I Think its fair to say that RDR is THE best R* game to date.

I think the old revolvers and lever action rifles are really cool so RDR gets my vote. Modern combat rifles just don't have as much character. They're still cool though.

none of these appeal to me, I keep saying that the best weapon selection is in the III era

for this simple reason: IV's weapon selection is simply a failure, because you can't run at all while you're swaping weapons (unless you move the left analog stick or the arrows with your right hand dozingoff.gif )

in rdr, it's pretty much the same thing: while you are browsing through weapon categories, your finger leaves the X button for the right analog, so you can't run. then, if you go to browsing within a category, you leave the left analog for the arrows and you can't walk

in any of these games, if you are facing an army of enemies, it gets annoying the fact that you can't run freely and swap weapons at the same time.

in my opinion, rockstar took an enormous step back by introducing this selection system in IV. they have completely discarded practicality, for the senseless need of saying that they changed everything

As a default: GTA: San Andreas.

This kind of poll not having a 'Other' catagory means a player would have to know what the the listed games use for a system. And, believe it or not not everyone owns/plays all the game prublished out there.

The RDR system, but don't have all types of weapons available at once, just have once of each type on you. If you have purchased a pistol and replace it with a better kind, the old one can be retrieved from a safehouse stash (that way, you don't have to spend the money for a gun you already bought if you get it at a gun shop.

The wheel is just much easier to use IMO.

R* might as well add two systems. I prefer the old system because GTA is a sandbox game, not just a shooter. I might want to shoot some rockets, shotgun some cops, or whatever and not have to worry about keeping a car with me.

The extra bag system could technically work but if it's that much of a bother one could just carry as many weapons as they want. The game doesn't force you to carry ALL weapons with full ammo.

I prefer the scrolling as well. The weapon wheel is nice in SR and MP but I dislike how it makes you stop moving while you switch. It wouldn't bother me that much either way though.

@John Footpenis GTA IV does force you to carry all weapons and ammo once you pick them up that is.

I think a hybrid system needs to be put in place. You could always just hit the "shoulder aim button" to equip your last weapon. Max Payne 3 had a limited number of weapon slots which made switching in the wheel fast and easy. Also, switching guns didn't impede on running because it was handled with the right joystick.
