Wolf68k
How much RAM? If you like AMD and it has at least 8GB then I guess that's a good deal. Hard for me to tell since it's in the UK and prices vary so much on parts compared to the US and I don't mean just the currency exchange rate. sivispacem
For that kind of money I'd want at least an FX-8 series or i5/7 Intel, personally speaking. yoječ
Just as above. When it comes to gaimng, FX-4170 is quite bad.
MIKON8ERISBACK
4.20 Ghz is a little above average even today, and 4 cores is pretty good, but DDR3 RAM is a personal expectation of most game publishers today. You might want an aftermarket video card such as the GTX 560, just saying. Also, model numbers are just bullsh*t to me because every manufacturer does things differently as to how calculations per second in the CPU and GPU/video card are determined. yoječ
Gigahertzes aren't really relevant since FX CPUs have very low IPC ratio. Not to mention FX-4170 isn't a true quad core CPU, it has four ALU and two FPU, so it's a bit like i3 (which isn't quad core as well, though it shows up in Windows as if it has four cores). El Dildo
you shouldn't buy premade PC's. they're horrifically overpriced for the power you actually get... just like that one. learn how to put together your own PC (it's really, really easy) and then buy the components individually. you'll save literally hundreds of dollars and still have more power. Yeah. I had a custom built PC built at Tiger Direct adding up to about $900 dollars. I can list the specs in my signature, as listing them directly here would be slightly off topic. I will say that it outperforms any existing video game console by a good margin.
Los Santos Pedestrian
I will say that it outperforms any existing video game console by a good margin. Yeah, no sh*t. It costs $700 more than an Xbox 360.
Andreas
The IPC ratio of the FX-4170 isn't really good and it's not a true quad-core CPU. It's a dual core cpu that uses CMT. It's like a Intel Core i3. The i3 CPUs are dual-cores with SMT. All in all CMT is more effective than Intel's SMT but every AMD CPU has a way weaker IPC ratio (40% less IPC) compared to Intel. In gaming for example a Intel Core i3 2120 (dual-core) is as strong or even stronger than a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (hexa-core). I would rather buy items instead of a whole computer. It all depends on how much money you want to invest at maximum. yoječ
Why a prev-gen HDD? 1TB platter HDDs like ST100DM003 or WD10EZEX would be a better choice. Also, personally I'd go for an air cooler like Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140mm or Thermalright HR-02 Macho. It's much better value for money. yoječ
Well, it wouldn't be really "better" per se (AFAIK IB behaves the same on all chipsets) though it might be worth considering since some mobos with older chipsets are sold with outdated BIOS, without IB support - which might be a bit problematic. Stinky12
Yeah, they're pretty much all the same, except for native USB 3 support on the Intel Z77. Z68 needs a 3rd party controller for USB 3.
