BullworthAcademy
Back in May, it seemed like Bayonetta 2 was dead in the water. The original attracted critical praise aplenty, but failed to make much of a dent in the charts and the only statement that developer Platinum Games would make was that they'd love to make a sequel, but only when the time was right. Well, it turns out that the time was right all along, and Bayonetta 2 will not only be a Wii U exclusive but will be published by Nintendo, perhaps the most unlikely saviour for a series with such a strong emphasis on violence and sexuality. The first game was of course published by Nintendo's old sparring partner, Sega. The reveal of Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive was arguably the highlight of Nintendo's video announcement today, with a brief flash of footage and the promise that Yusuke Hashimoto of Platinum Games is once again at the helm. Will the game make use of the Wii U's unique touchscreen gamepad, or has it been designed with the more familiar Pro Controller joypad in mind? We'll have to wait and see. For now, let's just be happy that one of the great action games has been given a new lease of life. sublimelabs
At this point, I expect a version of Metal Gear Rising to make way on Wii U soon. That must be a lot of money Nintendo threw at Platinum.
wwinterj
It's possible that this will make it's way to other consoles as Nintendo only publish it. However as it stands this is one of the reasons I'll buy a Wii U at some point. I'm in no rush to buy one yet though. I'll give it at least a year as I do with any console launch most the time. John The Grudge
Having watched the trailer of the WiiU's launch titles I can honestly say that there's no reason for me to buy one. Bayonetta 2, as much as I was looking forward to it, does not change that.
John The Grudge
I also think it says a lot about the mentality at Platinum Games. They should have declined any offer from Nintendo. Bayonetta was hardly marketed at all. It's sales were thanks not just to positive reviews but word of mouth. Without those fans the original would have died on the shelf and the sequel would never have been a possibility. So now they decide to completely disregard all of those fans. It's a bit selfish if you ask me. There's plenty of games coming out this season so they can shove Metal Gear Revengeance up their ass. I hope it totally bombs. The Wii was trash and I have little faith that Nintendo have suddenly started giving a toss about games. It'll be the same as always. After a year they'll forget about it and focus on the next bit of hardware they're flogging. How on earth they have any fans left after the Wii is a mystery to me. But it seems you were right. Still, I'm perplexed that this is what it came to. No MS or Sony interest? How long do we have to wait now for PG's next multi platform title? Sega really confuse me. Are they just morons or do they not give a s**t? They seem to put the minimum amount of effort into everything they do. Gtaghost22
Gamers bombard "Platinum Games" with hate-filled messages over Bayonetta 2 exclusivity on Wii U: http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=185428 This kind of stuff is absolutely disgusting. Speaks oh-so well for gamers in general. Bayonetta 2 was announced as Wii U exclusive today, which sent a ton of gamers into a rage-filled fury. Bashing of Nintendo and Platinum hit hard, with some absolutely vile comments.CAUTION - FOUL LANGUAGE I honestly cannot believe these comments. I know it's the internet and I should be used to this stuff, but I find this completely over the top. Thanks to all that sent this in.Link The problem is, people don't really want to pay $350 dollar and then another $60 to play Bayonetta 2. They want their favourite game sequel to be released on the console they already have. Most people do not have the money to waste on a whole console just to play a single game. That's why they are angry, they feel they are being blackmailed into buying a console IF they want to play a sequel to their favourite game. It is not fanboyism, loyality or being "butt-hurt". Nobody would have been angry if the game was announced for all platforms including the Wii-U. Edit: I don't agree with those comments though, i can understand why they are angry, but acting like this is just chlidish and immature.. When game is announced for other platforms, but not original ones? It must be really annoying for the fans, but not for me, i don't like Bayonetta, i would be so pissed though if a multiplatform franchise i like (eg. Assassin's Creed) went exclusive for a console i don't plan on buying, i can understand thier rage but they're acting a little bit immature. Pat
Imagine if Rockstar did for GTA V! Haha, now that would be amazing and something to really be angry about. Rockstar really couldn't do this for GTA V. What happened here is that the publisher pulled the funding and another publisher, Nintendo, offered to back them. That is the sole reason Bayonetta 2 is Wii U exclusive - just like it's why all of Naughty Dog's modern generation games have been PlayStation 3 exclusive. Rockstar, on the other hand, are their own publishers. They don't need to worry about funds being pulled. If they made GTA V exclusive, it would be completely different circumstances. And they would never even consider it, because it would minimize profits.
