TreyCrll
There's been a lot of talk about the possibility of multiple protagonists being brought to V, and it got me thinking: What if , just what if Rockstar is bringing full character customization to V? Think about it. It would be a bit of a game changer for the GTA series. Although it doesn't fit in with the typical schematic of a GTA game, we can't rule out any possibilities at this point. In most of the screens, multiple (what appear to be playable) characters have been seen as the focus point of some of the screens. While there have been ass loads of people stating that there's a high chance of multiple protags, why not just accept the slight chance of R* bringing something new to the genre such as MC customization. It wouldn't be very difficult, seeing as how saints row (although in my opinion, this is a crappy comparison), already did it. In SR you could customize the features and voice of your character, which, to me, signifies that if an OK company like THQ/Volition can do it, then so can a high-end one like R*. A lot of people have been begging for more customization since IV, maybe R* finally listened? I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen or anything like that, I'm just saying that it's possible. If my theory is incorrect, then there's two explanations for the multiple characters being in the screens: 1. There really are going to be multiple protagonists. or 2 (Most Likely) The screens show how that physics engine is coming along with NPCs now able to commit crimes among doing other things on a regular basis, which there was a serious lack of in IV. Dre23
At first I thought this is a great idea you have. But as you said Saints Row already had this feature and I think this would be the first time Grand Theft Auto copied something from Saints Row. But if this really happens Rockstar will (as usual) do a real great job we barely can't imagine and maybe this was meant by "the bold new direction". We don't know and time will show but you've listed some interesting points. This is the first time I read about the different guys in the screenshots and it's not about the multiple protagonists but a protag customization. H. León
I don't think so, since one of the most possible protagonist is almost proved, Ned Luke/the balcony guy looks like a real person, the actor Ned Luke, and I don't think that if R* does customizable character possible, they would do another character based on real life IMO. r0eladn
If i had one penny for every 'Protag' topic on this forum.... You would feel like a parking meter? I hope that the possible multiple protagonists wont cut down on the amount of missions per story line. 3 short story lines isnt as nice as 1 long one. Though 3 long ones is good. (no 'thats what she said' jokes please.)
Cuzzzin
I'd honestly be surprised if we got the level of customization that was found in GTA IV. I'm expecting clothing options to be narrowed to preset outfits like in Gay Tony and Red Dead Redemption. As far as actual full character customization, I'm not really in favor. I'm all for Rockstar providing more play choice, but I like the idea of them developing fully fleshed out characters that the player is able to share a journey with. Mister Pink
Character customisation after 100% or at least story completion. That way Rockstar will have us play the story as they want it told with the 'right' protagonist AND it's an incentive to those who don't complete the story (weirdos), to complete it. wwinterj
Full customization won't happen in my opinion. At best we will get the same level as San Andreas had with Skills that change your physical appearance and improve your skills in other things, tattoos, hair cuts and clothes. The screens strongly suggest multiple protagonists to me and are not NPC behaviour.
GarrowsKai
There is a simple explanation for the game not having fully customisable protags: Story. The foundation of all GTA games since III has been a good solid story, this would be impossible with a fully customisable character. The story and main character are mutually exclusive, R* can't create a fully formed story without a fully formed character and vice-versa.
FrankieP
Fixed: Red Dead and L.A. Noire complete story SPOILER ALERT Well, I suppose R* will stick to their current habit of multiple protagonists that they have put in some of their games which will perhaps be inherited by their most popular franchise. RockStarNiko
I don't mind if there is more than one protagonist, but I do want each one to be unique and actually be a character that R* have developed and given to us like Niko and the rest. mobile
The very first GTA had multiple characters that could be chosen. What if GTA V will give players that kind of choice again? You could choose one of them to play and follow his/her storyline. I know that it would require a massive work but if it is a bold new direction and the most ambitious GTA ever made... why not? AuSsIeThUnDeR36
I think there is a chance that GTA V could be two or three separate stories, like how there was GTAIV, TbOGT etc. So from the start of GTAV you choose who you want to play as and away you go. On another note what would be cool if you can save that game then play from the beginning as the other character. So in this way you could switch between the stories of each character

I would prefer total character customization to multiple characters, above I would prefer to stick with the old way, about why that many characters appear on the trailer, I think it's just that it is more realistic and more fun to crash place with a good bunch of fellas, rather than you going Max Payne all the time, or GTA superman all the time, you know just like in the movies. URC
Maybe you play one main protag (balcony guy) with his full story but also can play the henchmen of his crew like in the Scarface game. That would be nice.
Chukkles
R* always create their story to suit the character, if we make our own character's then there will be no personalisation to the story. Everything will have to be too general concerning cutscene's and refering to the main characters.
JoeJoeMcTwist
sorry to burst your theory bubble over here, but it's probably not gonna happen because the "possible protags" are all seen together in this one shot Spanish guy (left), possibly black guy (driver), white dude (middle) from the night time photo with the helicopter, and Ned Luke (right). That would be nice. I honestly think this is what we'll have, basically like IV if it came with EFLC included in the 'proper' game. I think we'll have one main character, the balcony guy as you said, who will have the 'big' story you play first and with whom you open up the map etc. Then when you're done you play as another character possibly with a slightly smaller/shorter story, however like TBoGT it will faster and more action packed, in order to keep the player entertained even though they have already completed the main bulk of the story, this will also highlight the disparity between the older, wiser main protag and the brash younger protag who is more likely to just hit things head on. I also think the two or three stories (however many there are) will be a lot more intertwined than IV and EFLC. In IV the three protags crossed paths once or twice whereas I think in V they will work together more and basically have the same goal to reach, so you'll do a few of the same missions but from much different perspectives. Isuck100%
I believe multiple protagonists is a certainty, but it will work in a way none of us have yet conjured up. It will truly be a bold, new direction which we have never before seen. Rockstar is the most ambitious video game developer out there and they are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible, particularly in the open world genre. Although I must say their ventures into other genres have been nothing short of groundbreaking either.
MikeMyth
I'd just like the classic. Characters who can only have their clothes customized. No multiple protags. Unless you mean how IV went. One long (wonderful) storyline, then two short DLC ones.
TreyCrll
If i had one penny for every 'Protag' topic on this forum.... You would have the equivalent of about a quarter and a dime =D Either way though, you guys make good points. And I know I'm probably wrong, it's just the idea of more customization in V makes me happy. Even though we're in yet another "News drought", I'm still amped about V and can't wait to see what it holds. The screens of the crop duster and the guy base jumping along the mountain side look f*cking amazing in comparison to IV's rocky areas. But now that I think about it, a customizable protag would be kind of hard to incorporate that in depth GTA storyline "feel" in to. I'm beginning to think that if there aren't multiple protags (which there probably will be), that those screens of different characters are just the beginning of cutscenes or something. Besides, atleast we all pretty much know that the MP will have a small amount of Character customization, and that makes me a little happy...
