golf wang
As many of you know, during the GTA III area we had many great weapons at our disposal. That's not to say the weapons in IV weren't great, but the weapons in III were a bit more "over the top", if you will. Would you like to see a return of any of these weapons? What advantages and disadvantages do you think these weapons would bring to the series? Edited September 13, 2012 by golf wang

Patrizio
This topic will probably be locked, as theres various weapons topics, but I'll add my tuppence worth. They should all return. The flamethrower especially is a GTA staple - I still don't understand why it was absent from IV. I'm almost certain that Rockstar will return these. Its probably taken a while to develop the engine that allows for this level of violence without it being too graphic.

GourangaMaster
I say the more melee weapons the better. GTA IV was severly lacking in them. General unique weapons like flamethrowers and tear gas would be great too. Edited September 13, 2012 by GourangaMaster

Chainsaw - Wouldn't mind if it returns or not. Have to disagree with you here Frantic - the Flamethrower has been in every GTA before IV and should return. Plus, we should have choice, not limitation. Although not the same I admit, if we follow that argument, why have a rocket launcher when we can have our explosions from grenades? One thing I must add, is I really hope we see throwing knives from RDR and to develop the throwing animation further. For instance, if we pick up a brick and throw it at a car window, it should be able to smash the window and hit the occupant inside.
Redketman
I welcome all of them. I especially want the katanas back. I haven't really cared about the flamethrowers since GTA III but I wouldn't mind seeing them in GTA V either.
Adriaan
Leave the chainsaws out. The thought of doing that to somebody gives me the chills. I want to hear what other fans who started to play the games before GTAIV also think of this. Because the games are now more realistic in its art, and not lower quality stylized art, things feel different when you, for instance, just run someone over. Think of how South Park would have felt if they had gone for realistic art. They get to do all these crazy things, but you don't feel sick about it because the art is so stylized and unrealistic. Do some of you also feel that this is a drawback with having more realistic art in GTA/games? It's only natural that they moved this way, but if you think about how you played GTA3/Vice/San Andreas vs GTAIV do you guys also sometimes try to avoid running people over etc.? Or like with the chainsaw example. It will just feel different. I realize it's all a game but there's a different feeling. When I saw the GTAV screenshot of a guy flying a fighter jet in a suit.... I remember thinking how unorthodox and weird it looks because it's not the kind of thing you ever see. Then I realized, but wait a minute, I've seen this before with CJ in San Andreas. I guess the fact that it looks so much more realistic made me look at it in a weird way. But yeah, I dunno, maybe it's an age thing also. The idea of blasting a flame thrower, hearing the screams of people as they burn alive also give me the chills. I never felt this way with the older GTA games, but somehow I do a bit more in the newer games... I guess, if these weapons are added, in true GTA fashion, it'll come down to giving the player a choice of how they want to play. You don't necessarily have to go and kill someone with a chainsaw or a flame thrower... it's all up to you. Kind of like how in some games you get to go in stealth mode, sneak up on someone, and knock him out out vs. actually killing him. John The Grudge
Maybe it is an age thing. I've seen some of the horrific acts of cruelty that are out there for all to see on the net and I do not want to relive them in a game. Violence in an adults game is fine but not cruelty. DeafMetal
[snip] Honestly, the amount of peple I killed in IV is probably not even 1% of the people I killed in San Andreas. It does feel strange, but at the end of the day, it's just a video game. On topic: YES GOD YES

Durden
I'm dissapointed OP, you forgot the minigun!!! But yeah I'd definately like to see those kinds of 'over the top' weapons return. Blowing up a car with a carbine rifle just isnt as satisfying as disintigrating it with 1 second of minigun fire. Molotov cocktails aren't quite as practical as a flamethrower. RPGs arent nearly effective as a heat-seeking launcher would be. Well you get the point. The weapons are very practical and fun to use. The only con I can imagine is people would complain its unrealistic. To that I say Yeah, totally, because katanas don't exist in real life. Helsinki
Yeah, I want all kinds of weapons - especially chainsaws - but some of the more powerful and/or exotic ones should be very rare in the game. Agreed, a military 'jeep' with a mounted minigun would be great. I'm keen for a flamethrower and tear gas, would be great fun mixing it up a bit. I'm also for a more varied melee weapons including sharper ones like sword/machete/axe etc. Not a fan of the chainsaw, can live without it. Kent Traffic Cop
The flamethrower has been around since the very first GTA and I'm p*ssed off that it wasn't in IV. Bring it the hell back!
JoeJoeMcTwist
Flamethrower, definitely. I don't feel any emotional attachment to the peds in the game like some people do. Sometimes I'll play along, drive on the road, not kill peds just cause the game world is more realistic looking and it would break niko's character to suddenly go on a rampage. But sometimes its fun to just cause total havoc, get the cops after you and die in a frantic shootout survival. I think GTAV should give the player the tools to cause chaos however he chooses. I found the knife in GTAIV the most brutal weapon of choice. And the bat was awesome too - one swing to the head and the ped was out cold. Unless dismemberment is going to be a feature in V, I don't see the point of adding katanas or chainsaws. Some more melee weapons would be sweet. Something that fits the style of the game. r0eladn
A flamethrower is: - The backpack (gas tanks) - The weapon itself. Adding a flamethrower would add to the unrealistic factor since where would you put it when not using? Besides that, burning people would be epic. PureGold
They should all come back. I don't think the Chainsaw would be too gory, it's not like you see knife wounds when you stab someone. If they make wounds more realistic then you can just choose not to use the chainsaw. The mission in VC where you have to chase the guy out of his apartment and kill him with the chainsaw is one of the most memorable missions in GTA history for me.
