How long and how fast will you camp out?

I probably won't go to the store and camp out. I rarely even buy games at the store anymore. Here in the stores a brand new Xbox 360 game costs 60 euros, if i order it from a webstore though, it's 45 euros. QUITE the difference and much better for my wallet too. Plus in severl cases (Skyrim) i had the game almost a week early. But it's going to depend on several factors.

 

I might buy the Collector Edition this time, if it's really worth it, but most of the time these CE's are not worth the money. But we'll see. In GTA IV's case by the way...at that time i still had a job and believe it or not. But i didn't take a day off for the game, nope. I just worked all day, bought the game during my break, back to work and after work it was non stop GTA IV time. How its gonna go this time for me...i don't know. But i don't feel like camping outside a store for it.

Only thing worth camping for would be sneaker releases as they are limited.

Steam pre-order = no waiting in line, no chance of not getting a copy since it's sold out, and pre-load meaning as soon as release hits and it's unlocked I'll be playing.

I know its a little premature but I want to get you guys a little more psyched and less depressed in this phase of the games dev.

 

As I recall with the release of MW3, there was a line outside my Game Stop for over a period of 24 hours. If you didnt reserve it you werent getting it, and if you did and you were L8t a w8t that lay in front of you was massive. It stretched all the way to the line of the movie theater behind it.

 

Also what will you bring? Who will you bring?

I won't be camping out. I always get video games at least 2 months after the release. So then the stores have time to re-stock the games at a $10 cheaper price.

I wouldn't be camping out, but If i got called in to work say from 12pm til 9pm i'm gonna have literally no time to play it, if i get it at midnight at least i'll be able to play it for a bit before.

I remember when IV came out I was afraid that the game would sellout before I could get to it, and well, it didn't. When I showed up at the store after work there were still plenty of copies left. And I live in metropolitan city. I'm sure wholesalers know how big this game is and they will probably order a sh*t load. The only time I ever see a game sellout anymore is when it's something that no one expected to be a hit.

I'm going to preorder, but not stand in line. 6 months ago I would have pitched a tent (in more ways than one) but not now. The hype has long worn off. Still more excited about this game than any other, but not really caring so much now. I keep checking here for new info, pictures, release dates and so forth but have pretty much given up.

The 9 months of silence really soured me on this one. My reaction to the screen shots was, "hmm, neat!" and then moved on with my life. Maybe the next trailer will put the zing back in things.

I've never camped and I never will. I think the only midnight launch things I've ever gone to were for Halo 2 and MGS4. The Halo 2 one was f*cking huge and annoying and went on WAY too long, we were there from like 7PM to 1AM. The MGS4 one was way more mellow, we got there after 10PM and were out of there before 12:30.

 

Anyway I always pre-order from Amazon, it'll be delivered to me in my office on day 1. Good enough for me.

I cant make up my mind, I want to make a statement by going to the game shop late at night and showing my support for the game as much as possible, but I normally pre-order from Amazon these days. At the tender age of 31 I feel a little old to be queuing up for a game haha! Would love to pre-order on Steam but I have some buddies across the world wanting to play me online (I'm not much of an online player normally), they are PS3 guys. I dont think PC will release on day 1, but that's for another topic.

 

I've already decided there will be no work on GTA V launch day so I'm not gonna sleep at lot the day/night I get it.

That's hilarious! It's even funnier because I've done similar to people waiting in front of Foot Locker for whatever Jordan's are coming out. I've never come across a video game waiting line while working, but I've always wanted to use my Super Police Powers of Power to show up 5 minutes before midnight, lights flashing and sirens blaring and cut to the front of the line and make everyone hate us even more.

 

As for GTA V, I'll just preorder from Amazon and have it waiting at home for me if I work on the release date.

Seriously though, probably an hour or two before release. Really doubt the lines will get that long at the local walmart, no game ever seems to pull in more then 50 people at the midnight release.

 

Gonna play it as soon as I get home then too. At least get through the initial few missions before going to bed.
